Love, Balls and Courting: Tennis V

I believe it's 2025 for Canada, and Cincinnati to change to 2 week events. Still some of the same issues will occur, but maybe they will add a roof to the main stadium, and that would relieve some of the issue with matches being delayed.
I really have to start fact checking myself or just stop posting about tennis. :yikes:

Coco Gauff wins The Cincinnati open over Muchova,6-3, 6-4! Onto Flushing Meadows. I never got to go to the US Open, even though I was a short subway ride away for more than 20 years. I just didn't relish the thought of frying in the stands.

She’s on a roll!’
She added new coach Pere Riba to work on her coaching team earlier this summer and she also now brought in Brad Gilbert. Gilbert has coached Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Andy Murray in the past.

I think her new coaches have brought her out, she is playing much more aggressively, hitting harder. I think she always had those, but they told her to believe in herself.

You go girl!

It's too bad the Gauff/Wozniacki match couldn't have been a final! Caroline looks amazing for having been away from the game and given birth to two kids, and she pushed Coco all the way. There were some great momentum shifts, and both players showed their grit. In particular, Coco seems to have a great mental game right now and to thrive on the energy of the crowd.

ETA and Tiafoe wins in straight sets. Looks like a great tournament for the home team so far!

Technically, Naomi Osaka grew up in the states who happened to compete as a Japanese player. So representation was sort of there, prior to this season.
That said, great for so many players to make it

5 Americans into the quarters. First time since 2005. Was surprised the Keys/Pegula match was so lopsided. Peyton Stearns did well and took a set off Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova.

Wow! Coco Gauff routs Ostapenko 6-0, 6-2! The first set took 20 minutes! Ostapenko might be Swiatek's kryptonite, bot not Coco's!

I think it was a heat situation! Ostapenko's not the fittest player around! Half the time I think of her as a German Haus Frau!

Strange anti-fossil fuel environmentalists disrupt the Muchova - Gauff match with Gauff leading 1-0 and 1 game in the second set.

Now play has resumed.

Coco in the finals! 6-4, 7-5. I'm glad I recorded it. The Project Runway Finale is running directly against it.

Fingers crossed for Coco, but wouldn't be upset if Sabalenko gets her day (she's been close bfore)

Forbes' assessment of Coco's financial potential:

"WOW. This quote from Coco Gauff just now on her win is why she is the absolute GOAT & is one to remember for the ages: “Thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me. To those who thought they were putting water on my fire, you put gas on it.”
?

I feel kinda bad for Sabalenka for making it to the semis again and again and finally making it to the us open finals and not win.
That said if the commentators were right, Sabalenka has a power game that doesn’t vary and that lack of variation is perhaps why she didn’t win here. She can beat the majority of players with her power but a top player at the top of her game can best her with some strategy and variations

Still an amazing year for her

I'm thrilled Coco won, but I never felt she was really in control of the match. It always seemed as if Sabalenka could just blast her way back into it, but that's the high risk tennis she plays.
