They had a very bad crash in practice (he says neither team was to blame - they were doing their twizzles and the other team was skating backwards). The end result though is that Angelina has two broken bones and needs surgery on her leg, so they are out of the JGP this season.

Not surprising they outgrew each other and it must be awkward for them considering their personal relationship had ended? All the best to both...hoping she finds a good partner who can cope...the russian boys tend to be small in stature but gigantic in ego....no shade here on Valeri...just a difficult place...too much hype way too soon....?

I don't engage with Russian skating anymore, so I haven't seen how they are now but I really liked this team in 2020/2021 so this is a shame! Their Romeo and Juliet was genuinely quite special - and I think why they had so many fans so quickly is that not only were they good but in an era where Russian junior dance is a bit messy and tasteless, they had chemistry beyond their years and some beautiful moments in their programmes.

I think they have a Japanese junior team?

Looking at the upcoming JGPs, the Osaka dance field looks set to be quite a matchup -- you have the entire podium from Bangkok, the silver medalists from Linz, and also Tkachenko & Kiliakov, whose scores by the end of last year were in the range to be in podium contention now.

I noticed that! I've been wondering if we're going to have a repeat podium! It's not guaranteed, of course, given the other teams you mention, but it could happen.

I'm holding out hope that the FFSG has a moment of strategic clarity and they swap Fradji/Forneaux with Maliqueo-Repoux/Synelnikov who are assigned to Yerevan. Otherwise, I fear FradForn will wind up with bronze in Osaka and miss qualifying for the JGPF as a result.

Well, originally Istanbul had Hauer/Starr and Kudryavtseva/Karankevich in addition to Pinchuk/Pogorielov, plus Sabatini-Speciale/Buelow and Pedersen/Chen, so it wasn't a really light field. But with both HauSta and KudKar out due to injury, it does open the field up a fair bit.

Bonnie Tyler apparently did sing those in the 80s, apparently. Which I guess isn't the "chosen version". But apart from the random Americans and Canadians who might be familiar with these songs, I doubt you're going to get that one Bulgarian or Israeli to go "hmm, that doesn't sound 80s to me!" for the overwhelming majority of these. Like literally if I show any of these ”choices“ to my parents they'll go ”wtf is wrong with these people to be listening to this type of music“, they're unrecognizable to the overwhelming majority of the world.

And don't put it past some of these tech panels to know perfectly well that neither Adam Lambert nor the cast of Glee were recording these songs in the 1980s.

The other teams have been so careful not to use post-'80s covers, though. (Thank goodness, or we would have been hit with a lot of emo '80s.) So they must be thinking that the rule will be enforced.

It's going to be interesting if the tech panel at Lombardia will pick this up. They will have the direct comparison between the original Bonnie Tyler version and the Glee Cover, since the Mrazeks, who will have their senior debut at Lombardia, are using the original version of the same song.

I had asked about this in the music thread, but I was definitely confused when I saw this. It specifically says "the chosen version was released in the 1980s" AND it maintains the spirit of the 1980s. I assume that means that it could be remastered for audio quality but not something like sampled.

Versions by Glee and Adam Lambert were not released in the 1980s, so it seems like they should not be eligible.

Do we think Guignard and Fabbri are just gambling that the ISU will not enforce it's own rules well? That's not unlikely, certainly, but I don't know that I'd bet on it.

Well if they get away with it then Piper and Paul should switch to the Annie Lennox version of their RD song (which they didn't pick because it was a cover of the orginal 80's song and done in the 90's).
