Anyone watch Picard this week? I have mixed feelings about it.
Not yet. Hope to get to it this coming week. It's had good reviews so far, and I liked S2 better than S1, so hoping that trend continues.
I finally watched Dexter: New Blood a year after it finished. I surprisingly thought it was really, really good- certainly much better than the last four seasons of the original series. An intense satisfying ending, and it leaves the potential open for a completely new storyline later on down the road even although I don't think that will happen.
I also thought it was really good. And it also fixed the abysmal ending of the original series. There was speculation about a second season but it's officially not going to happen, which I'm fine with as I think there's now closure on Dexter's story.

The article mentions the possibility of a prequel series, surely in the same vein as Bates Motel has done but I don’t think that would be of much interest to me. We already got a lot of flashbacks in the original series that explained how he had gotten to that point.

Watched ep.1 of Picard. It drew me in, whiich was not the case withthe first ep of the two previous seasons, and it seems more like Star Trek as well, which is fine by me. I do feel like Generation X has taken over the Trek franchise though and boy are we cynical about the future!

We are four episodes into The Leftovers on HBOMax. I'm somewhat intrigued so far, but find the show kind of cryptic and offputting. (Why do the people in the white cult have to smoke all the time? Why can't they talk? What is their goal? Who is the "hugging" prophet, and why should I care?) But, it's a show about a disturbing incident (the rapture-like disappearance of millions), so I guess it only makes sense that people's reactions to the event would be disturbing too. Not sure I would continue watching on my own, but my husband is interested, and apparently the second/third seasons are supposed to be really good, and better than the first?, so we will probably keep going.

I kind of hate that Ann Dowd is in the cast as the white cult leader. I'll forever be creeped out by her--Aunt Lydia is not a character one can easily forget.

Justin Theroux, though. ♨️ I'd never seen him in anything before this. For some reason, he reminds me of Mel Gibson (in his hotter, younger, less objectionable days).

Just started watching "From Scratch" on Netflix starring Zoe Saldana. It's the story of a black woman from Texas who defies her attorney father to study art in Florence as opposed to following in his footsteps. She meets and falls in love with a Sicilian chef who is a pariah from his father. They unite in L.A. where they both have difficulties with their respective careers but decide to marry anyway. I'm currently watching their wedding at an Italian villa; where it goes is any guess, but it is very romantic and emotional. Call me a sap.

Binge-watched the rest of it. Crying....

Final trailer for Drive to Survive season 5 (February 24) is out:

We also have an episode list. 10 episodes this year, instead of last year's 8.

1 - The New Dawn
2 - Bounce Back
3 - Like Father, Like Son?
4 - Matter of Prinicpal
5 - Hot Seat
6 - Pardon My French
7 - Nice Guys Finish Last
8 - Alpha Male
9 - Over The Limit
10 - End of the Road

I'm already dreading 3, 6 and 7 and I know I'll cry during 10. It'll be interesting how Netflix handles this season in regards to some of its "favourites". They openly acknowledge that without Daniel Ricciardo DTS may never have worked, yet this season must cover his departure (episode 7); they've been milking Guenther Steiner for years (haha man with funny accent says feck a lot) but if the leaked transcripts are anywhere close to accurate there will be no way for him to be portrayed as anything but an incompetent, horrible bully who has no place running an F1 team and who mistreated the son of a legend of the sport, worse than we thought (episode 3).

I'm not getting into the professional version of the Great British Baking Show. But, I did watch the holiday episode of the non-pro version with the cast of "It's a Sin." It was fun. I had never even heard of "It's a Sin," but I decided to check it out. It's about a bunch of gay friends in London at the height of the AIDS epidemic. It's very sad, of course, but very well done. It's on HBO Max.

I watched the first episode of season 3 of Picard yesterday. It was okay. I’ll be curious to see how the various storylines play out. I’m also part way through the Ready Room recap/discussion on this episode. I enjoy those a lot!

It’s worth sticking with it! I’m a few episodes into S2 and am still enjoying it. I also had not seen Justin Theroux in anything except his bit part in Sex and the City (had no idea until I saw it on his IMDB bio). Holy hot cop 🔥🔥 The uniform-sunglasses-stubble combination 😍

I concur on Ann Dowd. I haven’t watched The Handmaid’s Tale, but she is creeping me out so much in this show. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of S2 when you get there.

I’m really enjoying Carrie Coon’s work in this show. There’s a scene with her that had me absolutely riveted. The character is such a departure from Mrs. Russell in The Gilded Age.

I'm watching Poker Face right now. Mr. Mac says the lead character's voice is super annoying. I'm loving it though.

Best Buy is offering a 3-month free trial of Apple TV+. Available to new and previous subscribers. I‘d canceled my Apple TV+ a few months ago and so I signed up again. Looks like some nice content, including a series with Harrison Ford playing a shrink.

Do you have to buy something from Best Buy to qualify for it? I mean I do need a new screen protector...

Nope. Hopefully this links takes you to the order page. Just put it in your cart, enter your credit card info for Apple to bill you once the 3 months are up. Took around 30 minutes for the email to come with the link to activate it. Worked for me!

I started watching The Girl From Nowhere on Netflix. IMO it has a touch of the old Twilight Zone episodes to it except this all takes place in high schools with a main character throughout it. Strange things happen when Nanno transfers in and exposes truths and misdeeds that others would prefer to leave unknown. It is originally in Thai but has been dubbed into Brazilian Portuguese, English and Spanish.

It's different. Not one of my favorite shows but good for filler. There are two seasons up with a total of 21 episodes.

ETA: Some of these episodes get really dark and can be triggering for abuse and assault. Just FYI because there is a very large revenge component to this. Season 2 got a whole more intense than season 1.

ETA: OK. Season 1 was clearly just to see how far they could push the edge and then decided to go all out in Season 2. It's went from weird to disturbing.

I just finished Alice in Borderland. The best way I can describe it; it's sort of an elevated Squid Game. A in B is a Japanese series but it was dubbed in English so you can watch the show without having to concentrate on subtitles. It is bloody but also very interesting. There is a lot of focus on character personalities and relationships, especially the second season. And you eventually get the back stories of the main characters, some of which are quite sad. I really enjoyed it, despite the gore. And the bonus is that I'm now getting all sorts of Japanese series "suggested for me". I just started a series called The Makanai, about two teen girls who leave home to become geishas.

ETA: I also watched "Shamwari Untamed", which is a series the follows several employees at Shamwari Private Game Reserve in South Africa. You get to see a lot of what goes on behind the scenes at a game reserve. I am very interested in conservation and follow a lot of different reserves, parks and camps in South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. The staff at Shamwari work so beautifully together and you can see that it is not just a job to them, but a calling. The show was a great deal of fun and very positive. If you've ever dreamed of going on a Safari anywhere in Africa (or if you've already been on a safari), I think you would find this series very interesting and enjoyable.

And if you like "Shamwari Untamed" there is also a Youtube series (you can find it on FB too) called Shamwari TV. They release short update clips (10 minutes or so) on happenings at the reserve. Most are about the various animals, one of which is Jack the lion. Shamwari doesn't name their animals, so they refer to him as the Nomadic Male. But in his previous life at Addo Elephant National Park, the lion was known as Jack and most of his fans still refer to him as Jack. He is a stunning male lion and all his fans are anxiously awaiting the time he takes a pride and starts having cubs.
