Bummer about the effects of Discovery/Warner merger on The Cartoon Network, etc.

One of my daughters, who is 13, still strongly prefers animated shows to live-action, as a general rule. Over the past year and a half, she's moved from watching kids' cartoons to watching mostly adult animated shows. (She's tried out a lot of the series that you've mentioned here, @VGThuy, like Bob's Burgers and so on.) Sometimes I watch them with her, and love the creativity and humor.

Sorry to hear this news, which will surely negatively affect the number and quality of animated series. And sad of course about the layoffs.

The Mole was my absolute favorite reality game show back in the day and I always dreamt it would somehow be picked back up. Netflix did it, albeit with some major changes that I think change the mood of the game in the big way (if you saw the first shows with Anderson Cooper, you’ll remember the executions showing on large TV screens with ominous music for example), but they’ve managed to still get the intrigue back into the show. 8 of the 10 episodes are released already with the two finale episodes coming next Friday.

I see a lot of people talking about it on my social media, including my age group who never saw it the first time around (we were 14). ?? to many more seasons. Peak drama for me as a teenager was seeing the first Mole reveal themselves by walking into a large dark stadium and me being completely shocked.

ETA- I think the show kind of lent itself to the creation of escape rooms. It’s aired internationally for many more seasons than the US lasted, but the final challenge of season 1 here and some of the challenges on the Australian versions I’ve seen really were exactly what would be ‘created’ later in 2007.

So is The Watcher on Netflix like The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window? Because if it isn't I'd be embarrassed to put this on my resume and if it is then they still haven't quite mastered this genre
It's a true crime thing based on a stalking case in New Jersey. The couple were harassed out of their home. They couldn't sell it because they chose to disclose to potential buyers that someone was watching the house rather than put innocent buyers through the same hell they were going through.

ETA: I haven't watched this. Is this a run through of the investigation itself or a bad renactment kind of thing?

It's a 7 episode series and I guess a really bad reenactment kind of thing if it's based on a true story. Just the acting, the script, everything is just so shockingly bad I was wondering if it was a failed attempt at parody. I certainly didn't click onto the fact it could be based on a true story such is the production of the whole thing. Would be curious what the real victims this is based on think of it

@marbri

I know that Lifetime tried to make a movie of it and they supposedly got a cease and desist order. I don't know if they tried to do the same with this. I know the house was really expensive. I hope that they weren't forced to sell the story to make up for the loss from not selling the house. I respect them for being really honest with potential buyers because it only hurt them.

1. I love that British actors are not afraid to show their age.
2. I love that there seems to be more work for the plus 50 crowd than in other countries. They are so good at their craft.
3. Pair these people with a good story and you have magic.

And so I don’t think I can convey just how much I enjoyed a mystery called Sherwood on Britbox. There are mysteries wrapped in mysteries in this six part series. This involves two murders in the present and a mystery from the past during the coal miners strike in 1984.

The stars are Lesley Manville, David Morrissey and Robert Glenister and a great supporting cast both young and not so young including Joanne Froggatt, Mark Addy, Clair Holman and Lindsey Duncan.

I thought the women in Sherwood were particularly strong; the two estranged sisters coming to terms with each other was great, for one. My only complaint is Morrissey; he always manages to underwhelm me.

I particularly love Manville and she will be on Masterpiece tomorrow night. A treat.

Oh boy, RoP finale thoughts...

So the Stranger is Gandalf, they made that extremely clear. It's about 2000 years too early for Gandalf. Him going off with Nori at least explains his later fondness for hobbits, but...yeah. I mean, at least he wasn't Sauron, I was very upset with that "reveal".

I did not see the Halbrand twist coming, but it was actually quite well-done. The only real gripe I have about that is that it means that Sauron was involved in the forging of the Three, and it's actually...kind of THE BIGGEST deal that he wasn't? Not sure how they'll fix that.

One of my big plot-hole gripes about this series has been the fact that Galadriel appeared not to have met Celeborn and the total lack of existence of her daughter, which means Elrond is going to be at least 3000 years older than his wife. Ick. Galadriel saying she'd lost Celeborn to Theo felt extremely hand-wavy and like they added it at the last minute. Of course it was precisely worded so that he'll inevitably return for the next season, but...

Wasn't happy with how the Durin storyline ended. I felt like he needed better closure. But I guess that's for next season. As is Isildur's fate, since we know he can't be dead. No tension in that plot for me. I assume that Miriel's blindness will be the opening for Pharazon to seize power in Numenor.

I think neither. I had read about this case and when I saw it was a limited series I thought it was going to be like a documentary and wondered how they were going to fill all those episodes. Then I started to watch it today and saw it's a Ryan Murphy production.  He basically just took the premise and created a fictional series around it and, it being a Ryan Murphy show, I expect the plot to fall apart around episode 4.

Not on cable, but on TLC; Baby Surgeons. Very interesting series filmed in a British hospital in which in utero surgical procedures are performed on expectant mothers. Some outcomes are joyful, but others are not. I think that it's very well done and addresses some of the issues facing those who may want to abort for various reasons. They focus not only on the medical/quality of life issues that face the babies but also the economic/quality of life issues that the parents face.

I finished S2 of Succession last night and can barely restrain myself from abandoning work today to start S3. I’m counting the hours until tonight! Somehow I need to watch seven episodes between tonight and tomorrow night so I can watch the final three on the plane to Skate America. I am OBSESSED with this show.

It is so well acted and so well written. The thing is they are mostly loathsome people and yet you can't tear your eyes away. The family is a train wreck.

Unsolved Mysteries season 3 is now on Netflix but only the first three episodes are available. Another three will drop next week and the rest will be released on November 1st. I believe this is a first for Netflix.

HBO has always had interesting programming and now has morphed into HBOMAX. What they do so well is not only the quality of their programming but their promotion of it. This is typical and, as usual, well done: https://youtu.be/Bl2fh7PdYHM

I read a story recently about how Netflix is shifting its policy away from dropping a full season's worth of series episodes at once. I'm not a fan. I don't like waiting a week between episodes, and I never have. I loved Netflix because it didn't do that, and now it's going to be just like every other streaming service out there. Grrrrrrrr.

Isn't that how they have been releasing The Mole episodes?

I thought that show was dead years ago.
It keeps coming back. There were 2 seasons with Anderson Cooper then 2 celebrity seasons with a new host. Then after a few years it came back with another host. And after a few more years Netflix has it with yet another host.

The Mole had a huge cult following for the first two seasons and I’ve seen those seasons countless times. The second season, IIRC, started right before or right after 9/11 happened and had terrible ratings, enough so that it had to be pushed back for some time. I thought it was for sure done at that point. The first all-stars season was pretty good, as well, but it didn’t have the magic of a non-famous cast. The attempt at returning in 2008 was terrible. The cast was meh, the advertising was minimal (shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives were dominating network TV anyways), and it disappeared again.

Netflix added seasons 1&2 either late last year or earlier this year to their rotation, having already filmed this new installment. They were a viewing success, and now the new version has been in the top 10 worldwide since week one.

It really is the best reality game show, although when they return for another season I think some small tweaks are definitely necessary. I think I said it in my earlier Mole post in the thread, but the soundtrack for the first series was just perfect, as was the execution ceremony. I also think the editing of having a cliffhanger at the end of one episode to find out who goes home at the beginning of the next is odd.

Regarding this season, I’ve been all over the Reddit page for the show throwing out my attempts at picking up random clues and I think
Will
is the Mole.

Anderson Cooper was such a snack...even back then
