The TBA Arena has previously hosted numerous Grand Prix events.
Why though? The top athletes know they will have two events in a span of six weeks. Almost all pairs know they will have two events this year, and the series is still over three months away.Obviously this is frustrating for us as fans but boy if I was an athlete right now I’d be so irritated - their whole autumn season plan is up in the air and it’s halfway through July.
Unlike the WTF Arena Ice Skating Australia hoped to use for Sydney.Isn't that the name of the arena in Tallinn?
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but getting round the globe just now isn’t the cheapest or most straight forward? Having travel plans in place as early as possible is pretty necessary just now.Why though? The top athletes know they will have two events in a span of six weeks. They can schedule challenger events prior to the Grand Prix regardless of which assignments they get.
I noticed ? Did you also notice that each and every season, athletes are adding events or getting invited to Grand Prix events pretty last-minute and they do just fine? Junior Grand Prix athletes literally get switched out with a few days in advance and they make that work, also.I don’t know if you’ve noticed but getting round the globe just now isn’t the cheapest or most straight forward? Okay, and how does doing challenger events in August or early September make any kind of trouble for a Grand Prix series that starts in late October?Besides that, they are full people not just athletes. They too need to schedule when they may have push weeks and more restful weeks even now. The first challenger isn’t far away.
Sometimes I've seen skaters who were invited to compete at the last moment skate really well. That circumstance also applies to those who have traveling fiascos, i.e., Green and Parsons took 3 days in travel to reach Four Continents this year and Jason Brown's experience trying to get to Nashville for Nationals.I noticed ? Three months is enough time.

I’m guessing that there are still a few details to be worked out for the Sheffield event and that we will not see assignments announced until after that happens.
I will be very happy to be proved wrong about this!
What do you mean?My assumption is that they're still doing the assignments today
Rumor has been that the GP Hosts were still holding their virtual meeting today to make the GP assignments. Even if they don't have a 6th GP host confirmed, it should be pretty easy to make the assignments, minus host spots. What do you mean?
Ah, so we can hope for them on Monday.Rumor has been that the GP Hosts were still holding their virtual meeting today to make the GP assignments. Even if they don't have a 6th GP host confirmed, it should be pretty easy to make the assignments, minus host spots.
Grand Prix assignments should have come out today, but slight problems outside ISU control caused a delay.
We might get them Saturday but if not Monday seems a guarantee.
Saturday keeps it in line with what Hersh originally said. (I'd really like it to be Saturday, because I want MatchTV to be wrong for the third time running and then maybe people will stop believing them and carrying on like pork chops when things don't happen according to Match.)IFS Magazine tweet: https://twitter.com/ifsmagazine/status/1548094759792611335

Agree! Hard to believe the Russian state news agencies have any outside sources at this point. And which of the GP countries would be supplying these government media outlets with GP updates? Cross off Canada, the U.S. and Japan.Russia has NO one on the ISU Council except their speed skating guy and absolutely NO ONE on any of the FS committees or the GP Commission now that they're not hosting. Sure, MatchTV could easily have sources outside of Russia, but do we think they're getting much info from those folks these days?
France too - and I can't see the Finnish media supplying any information.Agree! Hard to believe the Russian state news agencies have any outside sources at this point. Maybe, but they know they've been delayed 2+ weeks already. For some reason, I think the ISU would be too lazy to work on a weekend, but let's see.
They're not even regurgitating Hersh. Hersh said the 15th from the outset. Match reported 14th which was why skating Twitter and Tumblr were in absolute meltdown mode yesterday, because they're idiots.Honestly, I think they're just regurgitating what has been tweeted by Hersh or alluded to in here by others with connections within the 4 major feds. Because they are a major media outlet, Skating Twitter follows them and they pick up on the news from there, rather than just being smart enough to follow Hersh on their own or join FSU and get decent info here, lol.
I'll join you on this conspiracy theory boat. They've been salivating at the fact that the ISU was struggling to find a host for the 4th GP and, thankfully, someone had the sense to give Phil Hersh the go-ahead to put GBR/Sheffield out there last weekend in order to neutralize that particular lane.Frankly, I'm going a little conspiracy theory on this and think it doesn't take much analysis to come up with a reason why a Russian news source might be deliberately putting out incorrect information and stirring up the most reactionary parts of the fanbase with that incorrect info to make the ISU look bad...
