Kiira Korpi's autobiography, Surviving the Ruthless World of Championship Figure Skating, is available in English now:
Finnish figure skater Kiira Korpi’s career included triumphal championships and bitter disappointments. Trained from early childhood in a sport that demands uncompromising self-discipline and unrelenting work, her “fight until you make it” attitude brought her success and fame—and an insidious performance anxiety. Mental and physical burnout forced her retirement in 2015.
With interviews and quotes from family, friends, coaches and competitors, Korpi’s candid memoir describes the making and eventual undoing of a champion, reveals a darker side to the “ice princess” image of women’s figure skating and advocates a more holistic, athlete-centered model of training.

Thread for Keri Blakinger's book that's out now:

People article (June 9) on Nathan's upcoming memoir:
The three-time world champion figure skater is releasing a memoir, to be followed by a children's book, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.
The Olympic gold medal winner's book, One Jump at a Time: My Story, will be published by Harper on Nov. 22, and HarperCollins Children's Books will release Chen's first picture book in February 2023.
"Nathan Chen is among the most humble warriors on ice," Harper SVP of Creative Development Lisa Sharkey, who acquired the book, says in a statement. "The so-called quad king has written a wonderful account of his life thus far, from his parents' immigrant story to his comeback from a devastating performance at the 2018 Olympics to glory in 2022."
"We could not be more thrilled to publish One Jump at a Time so fans can learn the nuance and emotional narrative beyond the headlines," she adds.
One Jump at a Time is co-written by TIME magazine writer Alice Park and features a foreword by designer Vera Wang.
I'm glad to see Alice Park is involved.

Also, the Shibutanis have another book coming out next year: https://www.instagram.com/p/CeXPsdkp4gd/
Book news!!! In case you missed it, we announced that our FIRST picture book is coming out Spring 2023! 🎉

AMAZING: ASIAN AMERICANS AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS WHO INSPIRE US ALL will introduce young readers and people of all ages to 36 historic and contemporary changemakers who have made important differences in this country and the world.

I've created a GSD thread here:

ETA from the Chinese skating news thread:
I think Sui Wenjing also is going to release her own memoir soon(?), and I think I saw it has stuff about Shen/Zhao, Han Cong, Jin Boyang, and Peng Cheng.

Thank you @Sylvia!!

I just posted a new blog today I thought might be worth sharing here! It’s a list of 10 skating books (many of them lesser known) that absolutely everyone should have in their collection:

It's not specifically a skating book, but if anyone in the US wants a free copy of Parent Up, a book about parenting written by Adam Rippon's mom Kelly Rippon, please let me know. It's practically new & I'd like to give it to a new home!

If anyone is interested, my books "Technical Merit: A History of Figure Skating Jumps" and "A Bibliography of Figure Skating" are available now:

Honoured to share that the foreword for "Technical Merit" was written by World Champion Donald Jackson. If either of these books pique your interest, I encourage you to take a look at the blog I posted today, as it gives you an idea as to what to expect. :)

This TeamUSA.org article was published for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May 15): https://www.teamusa.org/News/2023/M...ns-Books-With-Emphasis-On-AAPI-Representation
When Nathan Chen, and Maia and Alex Shibutani, were growing up, there weren’t many children’s books with characters that looked like them.
Now, the figure skating Olympians have added choices to the catalog: Chen’s “Wei Skates On,” published by HarperCollins in February, and the Shibutanis’ “Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Who Inspire Us All,” released by Viking Books for Young Readers last month.
“Within the children’s book market, there aren’t really many AAPI-centered children’s books,” Chen, 24, said in an interview earlier this year. “I’m sure there are young Asian American boys that are looking to pursue a potential career in athletics, and hopefully this will give them some inspiration to consider figure skating.”

Haven't had chance to check this one out but it's on my TR list... a new book coming out tomorrow chronicling the history of ice in America:

"Ice: From Mixed Drinks to Skating Rinks -- A Cool History of a Hot Commodity" (Amy Brady)

Thanks. This is about the element of ice/frozen water…not figure skating per se. “History of ice in America…” Took me a while to figure out (haha)! That explains the cover photo - a guy carrying ice, rather than Peggy Fleming!

Exactly! From the reviews I’ve read, it does seem to touch on the history of rinks and the Zamboni though. A unique idea for sure. 💡

My Mum in Canada bought two copies, one for herself and one she says she has mailed to me as a birthday present, so I should receive it this week. Looking forward to it! Mum herself is listed in it in the past competition results, but since she goes under a nom de glace on GS, I won't give her away :cold::D.
