Nathan Chen Fan Thread #2

Thanks, sheetz! I'm not on twitter much so thank you for posting the links. That's kind of nice and interesting that the Chinese media refer to Nathan by his Chinese name, using the Chinese characters within the article.

One of the tweets:
"Another curious moment. About 5 minutes after the second warm-up group entered the ice, the Rocketman was turned on in the arena - moreover, from the second half, where the choreoseq. is. And Nate immediately, without preparation, began to nail it. Well, what a legend."

Lorenzo Magri posted this earlier on IG (found it on Twitter) https://twitter.com/NathanChenJP/status/1488040366490386432 - Nathan practicing a 4z-3t - not the best effort - a little better than the one he did in the SP at Nats but still has me a bit worried about his health.
What do you see wrong? The only thing I see is that he's a little slow to reach back to pick in for the 3t, and this makes his landing a little flat for that jump (slower getting into the air so not as much height), but not like under (although it's hard to tell from that distance/angle, but it looks cleaner than at nats).

It's hard to say with the distance and angle, I agree... Just not much flow out of the 3t. I do agree, it didn't look UR. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing but we all know Nathan's been struggling this season. :)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is already nervous for him. The videos I have seen have mostly looked good. I’m hoping we can at least get some better practice reports once Jackie Wong gets there.

Nathan is included in this all-important NY Post article but ALAS ;), no open shirt/shirtless pic like for Evan Bates & Zach Donohue:

Zach looks like a little boy who got in trouble. The beard goes against the image though.

Phil Hersh has just given us a very interesting take on the Hanyu/Chen rivalry with a lot of commentary from Nathan.

Absolutely fascinating article! You really get the sense of just how much respect Nathan has for Yuzuru.

Also, he all but admits "I shoulda tuned my mom/family out in 2018 and listened to my coach" while reflecting on his growth as a competitor.

I have so much respect for Nathan due to his maturity, transparency and absolute class. His tremendous intelligence and his emotional intelligence at the age of 22 is astounding. He will go far no matter what path he chooses.

What a sweet message from Stephanee Grosscup, his first Learn to Skate instructor! This is the video of Nathan at sectionals that she included on her post. It's funny seeing how little Nathan is compared to his competitors here:

Thank you for sharing such a delightful performance! Only 50 more hours until we see the grown-up version. Can't wait! :cheer2:

There's been such a deluge of Nathan news and articles coming out every day it's been so hard to keep up!

Footage of his morning practice.

Had a strong afternoon practice except for a little trouble with the 4T, oddly enough.

Nathan has been named an Omega watch ambassador! The article says he's in the 1 minute commercial but I didn't notice him.

Anyone notice that Vincent is doing constant SP run throughs and Nathan LPs?

If they do split them I would actually have Vincent do the SP. Vincent is too much a risk to bomb the LP for the Team Event IMO. He has been quite consistent in the short program overall this year.

Of course Nathan might do both, but if they do the split I would go that direction. More to do with Vincent than Nathan, as I am totally comfortable with Nathan doing either. But quite comfortable with Vincent doing the short, long not so much as he is too volatile.
