Has anyone heard if they are planning to have the arena at or near capacity, or if they're only selling a limited number of tickets, like they did for Skate Canada?

From what I can see in the pre-sale offerings, it looks like close to full capacity. It's very odd though, lower bowl tickets are being sold on both sides of the arena, with no seats blocked off for the judges stand (???). It's possible that this in error, so I bought my tickets based on the seating plan from 2017. I tried to call the box office to confirm, but was only given the option to leave a message for a call back.

I bought tickets this morning and wondered about the same thing... Where were the judges in 2017?
I would be mad if they had to move people because I choose my seats based on the fact that they were in a place with less traffic hoping it would be best for C****.

In 2017 they were on the south side from Sections 8 - 1. I picked my seats on the very edge of Section 8 bordering on Section 9 as usually this area does end up being sold to the public.

I bought my tickets for my "usual corner" - no risk of the judges being in front of me :)

The judges are usually in what is the ice level player seating/penalty box for hockey games.

Well now, isn't this just peachy. I e-mailed the TD Place box office yesterday to inquire about the location of the judges stand. I received a reply this morning confirming that it would be on the south side of the arena. I just checked the pre sale seat map, and the entire south side including Sections 1 - 11 are no longer for sale. I've purchased new tickets in Section 18, but TD Place had better refund my initial purchase without question or I will be on the warpath.

I was coming here to tell you just that (entire south side blocked). I am waiting for them to call me back, but my strategy will be to ask for equivalent tickets on the other side. And by equivalent, I mean seat-wise, not price-wise. It's not my problem that they made a mistake and were not ready for sale. We'll see how that goes.

That would piss me off obviously.

Just posting an update in case anybody is in the same position as me re: buying tickets on the South side. TD Place is unable to exchange tickets to a similar seat on the North side (different pricing) because the tickets are Skate Canada's and not theirs. I find this pretty annoying since either the TD Place or Skate Canada made this mistake in the first place, not spectators.

Anyways, I got new tickets, but seeing the price of daily tickets, maybe I should have waited.

Thanks for the update! So other than the fact the box office wasn't able to accommodate your request for equivalent tickets, you found they were reasonably easy to deal with? I have not received a response to my follow up email as of yet. :(

I lost the little patience I had and I left two voicemails and sent an email ;) The person I talked to was nice and they did offer free parking for the event. Yesterday they said they would call me back this morning, and they actually did exactly when they said they would. I will say this good enough customer service!

I couldn't find info on pricing and on-sale date for daily tickets. Can someone post a link? Thank you. :)

The daily ticket prices were in an e-mail from Skate Canada. The info is here:

OTTAWA, ON: Tickets for the 2022 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships will be available for sale on December 8, 2021, at 10:00 AM EST. All-event tickets will be on sale from December 8 to December 16 and priced at:

P1, $300

P2, $200

P3, $160

P4, $ 120

* All prices are in Canadian dollars, plus, applicable taxes and fees.

Single day tickets will be sold starting on December 17, 2021.

P1, $65

P2, $50

P3, $40

P4, $30

- - - - - -
They left out the annoying part of a "ticket fee" of $37 (for the all-event tickets, I assume it'll be cheaper for single day).

Is there a detailed schedule out yet? The one on the Skate Canada site is very general. "SENIOR SHORT PROGRAM" "SENIOR SHORT PROGRAM" for Friday and Saturday, respectively.

What section/end was the kiss and cry in 2017?

Not sure this is much more help, but here is the info that was provided with my ticket order:

Senior Women Short/Rhythm Dance
JAN 07 2022 at 12:00pm

Opening Ceremony/Senior Pair & Men - Short
JAN 07 2022 at 05:00pm

Senior Women & Dance - Free
JAN 08 2022 at 10:30am

Senior Pair & Men - Free
JAN 08 2022 at 05:15pm

Exhibition Gala
JAN 09 2022 at 06:00pm

What section/end was the kiss and cry in 2017?
Section 113

An interesting note from my conversation with the ticket rep from TD Place - while we were waiting for my refund to process, I inquired as to cause of the ticketing error. The rep said they were initially advised by Skate Canada to make all the seats on the judges' side available, but then "changed their minds" a few hours into the pre-sale. 🤷‍♀️

Oh, rats. It WOULD start on a day when I have to monitor a recording session at work, and can't even have skating playing in the background. :(

I will be interested to hear if anyone gets single event tickets today. I’m a bit worried about the new 50% capacity guidelines. I have an all event ticket and I hope they haven’t reached 50% yet.

With the judging stands and seats they planned on leaving empty it can old over 8,200 people, so 50% is still a large number of people

Based on the tickets that are still available it looks like they're not selling the upper rows of the of the upper section of seats. I don't think they're in any danger of selling 50% of the seats in the building.

Question for FSUer's from Ontario - I'm reading this CBC article https://tinyurl.com/y5hya4ac about the new provincial restrictions that will become effective on Sunday and noted this:
Food and drink will also be prohibited from sporting events, concert venues, theatres, casinos and other such venues.
Am I corrected in assuming this will apply to events at TD Place? :yikes:

I understand it as applying to the event, but they did not provide much more details during the press conference today. Perhaps the details will be online tomorrow.

This applies to every indoor venue that hosts sporting events/concerts, etc. I don't think TD Place will be affected too much because one side of the arena is blocked off and there are a lot of unsold seats in most sections for all three days.

there are some differences from the CBC articles .. for Ottawa https://tinyurl.com/bdz5rpau

There's a limit of 6 people at a restaurant table in Ottawa. I believe TD Place won't have drinks/food available inside.

Presumably the part where food and drink won't be sold will apply, no?

Yes, it’s going to apply as far as I can see. Things are getting dire here, so I’m hoping we get a statement from Skate Canada soon. It’s going to be difficult to sit in the stands for 12 hours a day without eating, and with restaurants on restricted capacity, it could also be difficult to find a table.

I am sure they will allow food and drink to be brought in.

I am in a different province but the way restrictions work on arenas here is that there is no eating and drinking in your seats but there is a separate (physically distanced) eating area on the concourse away from the arena seats where you can take your mask off and eat.

Perhaps it will be the same for Ottawa?

Here’s the wording from the updated health order:

Food and/or drink services will be prohibited at indoor sporting events; concert venues, theatres and cinemas; casinos, bingo halls and other gaming establishments; and horse racing tracks, car racing tracks and other similar venues. Restaurants, bars and other food or drink establishments including in these establishment can operate subject to the rules applicable to these settings (e.g., 50% capacity).

It definitely sounds like the concessions at TD Place will not be able to open. :( Which is fine for a 2 hour concert, or 3 hour hockey game, but as @luckiest1 has pointed out, not reasonable when you’re spending 12 hours in the arena. Allowing spectators to bring in snacks and beverages might be an option, although where they could be consumed could be an issue since I imagine the point of the restriction is to ensure everyone keeps their masks on at all times while indoors. Maybe add the requirement that you have to go outside to eat/drink?
