Alysa Liu Switches to Colorado Coaching Team

I'm watching Alysa live on her Instagram with her siblings. She's in the dorms in Colorado. Some of her remarks are making me sad. She said that she was supposed to go home in a month, but no, she wants to go home now and will be very soon. She told a fan that she has no favorite jump any more. ? She's also just having a typical teen chat with her sisters, telling one not to mess up her room, she's also gotten some Christmas gifts in her bedroom back home. I don't think she seems very happy where she is but I hope that I'm reading her wrong. I wouldn't blame her though. It has to be hard to leave sunny California, and her friends, for much colder Colorado during the holiday season.

I have a feeling one day she and her dad will have a long talk about this when she gets older.

Well, it took a lighter tone. She's joking around now while trying to help one of her sibs (or a friend?) with homework.

Don't know if she's joking (I sincerely hope so), but she just said 'Guys, I'm not skating, I'm not a skater'. She also says she doesn't like fan fiction. Aaand she just said to someone 'Can you stop asking skating questions?'. There was some more cutting up, then the feed ended. I don't have a great feeling about this. I've watched these before and she's usually bubbly and cheerful. ?
She's back on live feed. Chatting about some fave restaurants. And their Rockin to the late MJ's "Beat It". She said that she's glad that she 'started that thing' on the original feed 'Because people actually believe it'. She keeps telling her friend? Sibling? to stop playing each song too long so that they 'don't get copyrighted'. Throughout the feeds, she's been tearing paper up. She keeps teasing fans who ask her her age, that she's 85, but her Asian genes make her look younger LOL. She's showing off a new backpack that her dad got her, and a new set of chopsticks. I can't seem to turn away from this. massyscaali joined the chat. I wonder if it's her former coach?

She wants to dye her hair, but doesn't ''want it to be straw'. Doesn't want to dye it blonde. She cut her own bangs at first, but had to go to a salon after. Btw, moderators if this belongs elsewhere, please move it!
Someone told her that her quitting skating is trending on Twitter. She doesn't believe it. She said 'Why would anyone even care that much if I did?'. She hasn't, but she feels people shouldn't care so much, she asked 'how does it even affect them?'. She says they shouldn't make her feel bad if she were to decide to quit. And she's right, although as a fan, I'd be very sad at the news indeed - as I always am when a favorite skater retires.
Alysa just said to someone 'the skating thing was a joke btw - it was a prank'. Teenagers! ?

Alysa's going on 3 hours strong live on Insta. I don't think that I can hang. She said she's going home for the holidays, and she doesn't want to sleep. She and her friend Poo Pei (which I know I'm spelling wrong), are pretty much dancing to one tune after another. She said 'Young Yu for the win', but I missed the fan's question?? Welp, I'm out. Hoping the best for Alysa. Also, I can't wait to see her, along with Nathan on Stars On Ice! ????

Northern CA is not that much warmer than CO Springs this time of year. CO Springs is also VERY sunny.

It didn't even get that cold in this part of CO until late yesterday. Last week was mostly sunny and very warm. Way too sunny and warm. We desperately need snow.

Last time I checked, Colorado Springs was in the 20s °F, San Francisco Bay area in the 50s °F, then there's the altitude adjustment. Just the same, weather is fluctuating all over. In any event, irregardless of the weather, Alysa doesn't seem happy where she is, which is concerning.

I didn’t watch the live, but Alysa may want to be more careful with her pranks and responses to her fans. This is how one gets a reputation for how she treats others, and her overall attitude
Maybe among older fans, but this is exactly how most teens and even early 20-somethings joke and just talk in general lately. It's a highly sarcastic and fairly cynical way of talking, but I've seen it from many a Gen Z person - especially those from California.

There's a reason why they're super sarcastic and cynical too. I don't blame them.

Not sure when/where you’ve been checking, but daytime temps in the Denver area have mostly been in the 60s and 70s until today, when they dropped into the 20s. For the most part, there usually isn’t a huge weather difference between here and the Springs. It probably does get colder here at night than the Bay Area does due to the altitude.

A cold front just moved through Colorado Sunday afternoon bringing some low temps that will last a couple of days. Prior to that for weeks it has been in the 70’s and 60’s with endless sunny, clear blue sky days. My office held an outdoor Christmas party last week and the high that day was 75 degrees. We have tons of California transplants who purposely moved to Colorado and stayed here…many in my neighborhood. This past weekend the big island of Hawaii had a blizzard warning for up to a foot of snow. Weather does fluctuate as you said!

Didn’t Alysa train in Italy also for an extended period of time? And prior to CoVid she was planning to train a lot in Canada. I’m sure she loves being at home too, but this is not her first stint at being away from home to train. I don’t see weather being a factor in whether she likes training in Co Springs or not.

The Weather Channel. And I said last time I checked. That would've been around the time I checked - at night. I'm not just making this crap up out of the air. ?

Like I said, irregardless of the weather, she doesn't seem happy there - and I hope I'm wrong.

It is ridiculous to compare the nighttime temps of one city with the daytime temps of the other! It is also ridiculous to compare a brief, 2-day cold front that came and went with the normal weather. At least compare apples to apples. Compare a 10 day forecast for one with the other, and you will NOT find significant daytime temp differences between San Francisco and CO Springs. CO Springs can get colder at night, but that is what blankets and heat are for. Again, the whole state of CO actually gets more sunny days than just about anywhere in the mainland US.

I watched the live and my two cents: She wouldn't have done a live if she was truly unhappy, and as she said, people care a little too much and read too much into every move she makes. She's a teenager and she was hanging out with her friends, dancing to music. Just because she said she's excited to go home for holiday break doesn't mean she's unhappy or Colorado is wrong for her or whatever conclusions people are jumping to.

Sidenote, I liked that she defended other skaters, calling out people for saying certain skaters are "robots," specifically.

I guess I misunderstood and thought it was a live with fans and not friends. If it was friends then yes- I’m sure they’re used to her and probably respond with sarcasm as well.

It's not unusual for teenagers/young adults to feel homesick when they first move away from home. Hopefully she will adjust and thrive but I think it's too early to make any definitive calls.

Excuse you, I wasn't comparing night time temperatures from one city to daytime temperatures of another. So stop making crap up. What a stupid thing to say. I happened to glance at each at that time and that's what I saw for each. Carry on and go ramble elsewhere.

I was just providing info. I never said or thought you were making it up.
You seemed to imply it by questioning where I might have gotten my information from. That wasn't just 'providing info'. You made it personal. Where else if not from a weather report? Good grief, it seems that I touched a nerve with this one! I didn't realize how many people here would be so sensitive about the weather! ?

I’m sorry you interpreted my comments that way, but as I said previously, it wasn’t my intention to criticize you personally.
