Any status update on his injuries?
There wasn't anything. But today, after the SP at GP Italy i found this: SID (Sportinformationsdienst)

Berlin's Paul Fentz, who failed to qualify for the Olympics in September, is in eleventh and penultimate place with 57.17 points after two and a half mistakes. He explained his weak form as follows: "I still have to deal with the groin and hip injuries that have been going on since the summer, it's a long process."

Once more an absolutly desasterous SP by Hocke/Kunkel. Every element except the lift went wrong. Their technical issues become worse the longer they skate. I literally have no words. Seems like they need another Coach.

Schott might be ill and to me she does not receive the PCS she deserves. But her jump technic has not improved over the years. She leans forward after every the jump. Really every! That is why the 3T+3T usually goes wrong. I remember her falling due that reason at worlds 2017! I just cannot understand why she has not worked on that over the years.
Agree on both arguments here.

I really question the Rex/König/Schubert coaching combo for these 2 :shuffle:
I really hope they can make it through this rough rough year as a team. Obviously pressure for making the team did not help at all.
This twist was now the neg highlight of the twist downhill route since their very first outing.

Re Schott: Elaborate on PCS please. Higher or lower?
Schott tech issues seem mysterious to me to, same with conservative approach year after year (injured/sick/... or not).
Her first toe pick jumps in combos seem way too massive to land cleanly, she is 80% all over the place her, overrotating or totally weird landing position going outta it.

Fentz as potential team skater should be questioned a lot too. Starostin passport status desperately needed here. If he has one - this should be no discussion as this point to date.

M/D confused with scores. For me in exact area where they should be. Not that I think JvR/S would have scored better here.

Seriously - this was a really rough day, but with Fentz not making the the single event, Schott maybe not meeting criteria and no great prospects at overall outing at olympics, the funding situation in the years to come could be ?

I really really enjoy Nicole´s programs. Her SP conception was one of the best yesterday. Deserves way more than 7s in choreography. But well. If your jumps are off your whole career the PCS won´t increase.

It seems that she has a lack of basic athletics skills which usually has to be formed during youth and childhood.

Carolina Kostner helped with Nicole‘s choreography, I thought she deserved higher PCS.

Just rewatched Gurdzhi FS before GP is starting.
Puh. I like his style and speed. Program suits him.

Good he is finally going for 3f, but that approach is absolutely hopeles.
No signs of 3a or any other tech improvements. Hmpf ?

154pts in total puts him nowhere close to JW's for now.

Update on the race lists coming after this weekend.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I rewatched few times now. Guess my main problem is my non-existent 'tango-love' to really enjoy this program.
Watching it more often now, I really like the first half, 2nd hald with the steps not so much. For me she could sell it way better than that during steps but seems very focused on doing it right.

So now, fingers crossed for FS.

Well, we're getting closer to the mark.
167pts for Schott.
Best outing so far.
Laboured spins and lost levels are kinda  though.
Going out there with 1flip only in FS seems  too.

I wished I could know/understand Huth's strategy behind all of this :D

how many points does Schott need again? Really like her free programme. It's intense and well-choreographed. she feels the music too and the basics, posture and everything are just fine

hope to see schott at the olys, and do we know if the German Fed will play hardball and prevent her from going if she misses those minimums by a .... little bit

2x 172pts or
1x 180pts
2 chances left (nationals excluded).

It's german NOC being badass (if), not german fed.
As mentioned before, qualification for team event might play in her cards.

Update Euros/Olympic Qualification #TeamD ??

Nicole explained in the (virtual) mixed zone today that she had a bad case of flu (Grippe, the real deal) and could not move for four weeks. She said she is confident to still get 2x172 but also feels the pressure.
This must've been before Finlandia? Otherwise this event was straight out of bed

NRW Trophy SP/RD Results, big ouch.

Hatakawa 43.46pts (around 8:43)
Suleymanova 43.06pts (around 8:23)
Starostin 67.79pts (around 12:25)
Jagoda 53.88pts (around 11:47)
Wolf/Liebers 50.15pts (around 11:10)

Especially for Jagoda I am really sad after his switch to Oberstdorf. He seemed so promising last season. I kinda approve the focus on going for the quad and pushing the tech side - but obviously, in competition this just does not work for him at all right now. Maybe playing it a bit more safe to gain some confidence would be nice for the kid.

I assumed the 3T-3T was on purpose. :shuffle: Has he landed a quad in a warm-up or practice?

based on dierking's reaction by boards i thought he was supposed to go for quad.
but only my reading into it. had the same imperssions at NHT ?‍♂️

Well, maybe she exaggerated a bit. But she also was ill in August with a bad case of shingles, so had really a short preparation time for this season. I think she is now on the upward move. I hope she can still get the 172 twice. Or that the DEU can find an exemption from the rule and can convince the DOSB to nominate her.

Eisemann Pokal in Stuttgart should be interesting for Jeschke

Efima / Blommaert are on the entry list and there seems to be a live stream!
Is Efimova really allowed to take part at a competition? I wonder if Russian Fed has allowed this or if this was just a crazy idea.

With this message I somehow only thought of magical return of Dave Kötting

So is she finally released? Interesting move to start then with such a local event.
Good for livestream, not sure I could drag my ass up there for them only :D

In times of internet and figure skating junkies (me excluded :p) this would not be the smartest move.
Was the first thing crossing my mind though too :D

Long and in-depth articel with quite some examples. Here some excerpts (maschine translated):
On 31 May 2021, the SPD politician Robert Schaddach also submitted a question on "child welfare endangerment and misconduct" of said coach on the points: 1. unauthorised discipline, 2. drug use during supervision, 3. physicality such as cheek pinching and 'nipple twisting', 4. unauthorised filming, and 5. humiliation and abuse.
The really disturbing part imo:
What does such a sport-internal clarification look like? How does the system react? Meral Molkenthin, the LSB's (Landessportbund Berlin) child protection officer, is involved in the case. She has no right of intervention. "It is a decision of the professional association as the client what follows from such a matter," she says. The Child Protection Association has also been informed. So is Jens ter Laak, the new federal base director. He came to Berlin in March 2021 as an employee of the DEU. He is said to have played down the incidents to several concerned parents and Berlin coaches. He did not comment on this point when asked.
Ter Laak is listed on the DEU homepage as the contact person for "Safe Sport", for the protection of children and young people in the professional association. He has a key position. The same goes for Reinhard Ketterer, who as 2nd chairman of the Berlin Ice Sports Association (BEV) and vice-president of competitive sports for the DEU presidium is responsible for child and youth protection. None of them took C. off the ice as a precaution.
ter Laak confirms investigation by German fed at beginning of the year, final report is available to DSOB and other authorities, allegations couldn't be confirmed.

Landessportbund contradicts, they asked fed for independent investigation by lawyer or an sports psychologist.
In June 2021, C. became a national association coach despite the known allegations, albeit with reservations according to the LSB.
There are questions about C. license, too.

This is a partilulary depressing read.
and reminds me of the case of the State Ballet School Berlin, where it took a lot of pressure by the fourth estate to convince politicians to act.
