Annabelle Morozov wearing pants in the FD -- is she the first woman to do so?

It has just been made legal for women to wear pants in the FD. From what I've seen, most women are sticking with dresses. Annabelle is the first one that I've noticed. Has anyone seen any other women wearing pants in the FD?

Regardless, kudos to her for taking that risk! :40beers:

I agree, kudos to her.

And kudos for women being able to wear pants in the FD.

I had hope that being able to wear pants would open up program and music choices for the ladies, but for the most part, that hasn't been the case. And when women do wear pants, its usually cat suits. A few notable exceptions come to mind, Perkova's 'Pirates' routine and Annette Dirth (sp? Dirk? think I got the name wrong?) rousing ACDC routine.

FS remains a conservative sport in certain respects.

I thought Katelyn Weaver wore shorts in an RD a few years back?

Pants were first allowed in the short dance in 2016-17 for the first go-round of Midnight Blues+ programs and Kaitlyn Weaver, Tessa Virtue, and Madison Hubbell were among those to take advantage, so yes, pants have been worn by women in ice dance recently. However, Annabelle's also the first I've noticed for the FD since the free dance rule change.

M/D in 1991 and 1992 LP?

May be they are tights, not pants?

Annabelle’s harem outfit is very feminine & sexy. I’m not sure that that’s a true “wearing the pants” example...as in strong sporty woman...celebrating women’s independence and all that.

But they’re harem pants...so technically, yes. (Lovely FD to Scheherazade!)

For ladies singles, I like to think Fumie Suguri was responsible for the change of rules in ladies singles thanks to her well-received 2003-04 short program to “Paint it Black”.

She wore a skirt tacked on to the pants but it was the first time in a long time it seemed a woman wore something like that (at least since Kat Witt for her 1994 Olympics SP to Robin Hood that had an extended tunic going past her belt to meet the skirt rules). Funny because she and Debi Thomas in 1988 were responsible for the ladies skirt rules to begin with, especially Witt.

Then the next season, pants were allowed for ladies singles, which Fumie also took advantage of for her excellent Carmen LP.

She still had a skirt tacked on to her costume though.
Klimova had some flowy, wing style material tacked on to her shoulders and sleeves, but no skirt at all. Interesting that they received no deduction at the time for it. I remember reading somewhere that some judges frowned on Debi Thomas's 1988 SP unitard when such a costume was not yet legal in the women's event under that era's rules (afaik).

My response was about Elizabeth Punsalan's racing costume for 90-91. Klimova's costume in 90-91 also did not have a skirt, nor did Isabelle Duchesnay's. I assume the rules were different for ice dance than singles then, but at some point they made it illegal. And then it took dance longer to be able to wear pants again.

The pioneer in all of this:
US skater Jill Frost, about one minute into this very bad-sounding clip of Frost’s CATS LP at ‘82 Natl Sports Fest, Indianapolis:

Try to ignore the audio...just fastforward past Melissa Thomas...
