2021-22 ISU Grand Prix assignments announced

P/C are probably seen as more vulnerable now which is why skating order could potentially hurt them (although I don't think it will if their programs are halfway decent and they can skate to their usual standard).
P'C need to get out there and compete as much as possible and that includes Senior B's what's it been 18 months since they last competed and they lost. They need some momentum by the time the Olympics happen.

The US has gradually been making it a bit harder to come to the US in the YKW (ironically, given how easy it was in the earliest days), but also it's specifically harder for Russian skaters due to mostly non-YKW-related tensions, which is an issue if you're seeking to relocate Cup of China (or any Grand Prix, really) given the number of big-name Russian skaters in attendance.

The whole Grand Prix setup was designed for a world where borders are open and international travel is easy. Any hitch it that majorly gums up the works. YKW will (hopefully, eventually) become manageable; the US/Russia situation may be more of a long-term problem.
Yeah, I was checking out the Anything GOEs Twitter account over the weekend and apparently Max Trankov has tweeted recently that about half the Russians who need visas for SkAm still don't have them. Hopefully they will come through in the next month but there is certainly concern from the Russian team in general about getting into the US. I'm not sure of the State Department is willing or interested in helping out with expediting the visa application process should the USFS be able to offer to host a second GP. I can’t help wonder if we might see some of the GP assignments shuffled around, if necessary.

I think that is why Z/G have been assigned to Skate AM for the past 3 seasons, as they don't need visas.

Logistically it would make sense to hold SKAM II in Las Vegas (or even Irvine at Five Point Arena), if USFS wanted to do so. Go to Las Vegas, do SKAM, pack up the equipment go to Vancouver, do SCI, pack up the equipment go back to Las Vegas (or Irvine), do SKAM II and then pack it up go to LAX and catch a flight to Tokyo.

Seems easy to me. :rollin:

Can San Jose be an option for a second GP in the USA? Not sure what their sports arena schedule is.

Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) should host!:saint:

ETA that I checked online and the Taipei Arena reopened to the public on August 1 (though it "will retain a cap on indoor occupancy to 40 people") and there's the convenience of the hotel across the street that's previously been used for 4CC & Jr. Worlds.

That would make it a non-starter, no? 9 judges, 3 tech panel, the referee, the data and replay operators... That's 15. On an ice dance warm up you have 10 skaters, so 25. Then you need the camera people, at least a couple volunteers, medics, the coaches... Seems like you'd get pretty close to the max right there, even only counting one warm up group of skaters.

I heard US still does not allow entries to those who visited China or Shengen area the previous 14 days. How does this rule apply to SKAM? It affects skaters from China, Europe, and those participating in Finlandia or Asian Trophy.

Is this even going to be an issue? There are no Chinese skaters on the entry list, and at least some, if not all of the skaters from the Schengen Area train in North America. If skaters had to choose between a Champions Series event and a Grand Prix, most of them would choose the Grand Prix.

It concerns Kurakova, Aymoz, Fa, Grassl, Kaliszek & Spodyriev.

There was always an exemption for athletes.

Well you can clear the arena of coaches and skaters after each warm up. You just need to add more time in the schedule. Other options, 1 coach per team, cut the judges panel to 7. Limit volunteer to one ice captain, one music operator, one announcer.

The Korean government designated Japan as a Lambda variant region. This means anyone coming from Japan should do two-week quarantine regardless of the vaccination status. This affects the Korean contingency at NHK Trophy.

If an athletes attends an important competition such as Olympics, the above ruling does not apply. I just hope the Korean government regards NHK Trophy as one of those competitions.

Or that in 3 months time Japan will not be designated as a country requiring quarantine upon arrival from in Korea.
