Royalty Thread#12 Tiaras, Palaces & Gilded Cages

I've never been able to wear more than an inch or so of square heel and that only for special occasions, I largely prefer flat shoes. Somehow I didn't get the memo that girls/women must wear heels - I've always been a person who is happiest barefoot, still today at over 60 (I grew up in a small northern Canadian town and used to be able to climb rocks in my bare feet).

SFAIK, wearing heels is an acquired skill that requires a considerable investment of pain and a fair bit of practice.

Yup I don’t mind a bit of a heel but nope to high heels. I’m only 5’0 too lol.

I love the coat but I hate the shiny green dress. I don't like ruffles on adult women & that dress has them on the sleeves & hem plus that fabric looks like it was molded over her body. One of the few fails I've ever seen her wear.

The people working for the royals now are apparently a very diverse group. Second, Diana had her own axe to grind with respect to the royals. She also had her own filter through which she viewed the world.

Uh, try walking in Diana's shoes before judging her. It's quite true that Diana faced challenges in a different era, in which she had very few options to reach out, tell her story and get help. Yes, she made many mistakes with trying to use people in the media to get her story out, but she had none of the options that exist in today's Internet and social media landscape. Plus, she had little to no emotional support from either her family or anyone in the royal sphere. The biggest drawback of all was that her husband didn't love her. And at age 19 and throughout her 20s, she did not know who she was as a person. She had a lot of growing up to do yet. Having to grow up and discover your own identity inside that gilded cage obviously became a living nightmare, now part of historical lore.

When I look back and view Diana walking down the aisle in that over-voluminous, frilly dress, she seems like a lamb being led to the slaughter. Of course, this view is in hindsight. But even then, everyone involved should have realized that Diana was too young and inexperienced for what she was marrying into. Still, that was ultimately part of her attraction for Charles and Camilla who seemingly thought that innocent young Diana could be easily managed, manipulated, overlooked and betrayed. No one expected Diana to rebel.

Poutine and Nanaimo Bars washed down with Molson Canadian beer.

Tea and biscuits, with English cucumber and dill sandwiches (bread crusts removed, of course). ;)

Better yet for English tea sandwiches: humus, cucumber, and smoked salmon on pumpernickel and white bread slices (crusts removed). :D

The people working for the royals now are apparently a very diverse group.

In a few roles perhaps (including the Queen's personal chaplain: a black female minister; the Queen's equerry: Ghanian-born Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, and some palace workers, one in particular is a black female former domestic staffer who has been interviewed in some recent documentaries). In addition, Natalie Campbell formerly worked for the Royal Foundation. Then, after assisting Meghan with the Hubb Community Cookbook, Campbell accepted an offer to work with the Sussexes on creating their own separate foundation. Since the announcement of the Sussexes 'stepping back' from senior royal duties, Campbell found another high level position outside the royal sphere:

The major courtiers, especially for the Queen and Prince Charles are the same, old-fashioned, stuck-in-the-mud, royal courtiers whom Diana nicknamed, "the gray men." A movie should actually be made about these shadowy figures and their influence. In days of yore, British kings and queens relied on the advice of religious figures and trusted members of the aristocracy/military heroes whom they knighted or rewarded with titles. And later (especially in the case of Henry VIII) had their heads chopped off. In recent British history, the monarchy appears to rely upon members of the aristocracy in the form of upperclass Oxford or Cambridge educated snobs.

Some of the younger royals have been more in touch with reaching out for assistance and advice from established figures in wide areas of expertise, including p.r., legal, financial, science & technology, entertainment, corporate, academia, conservation, etc. Although William employs younger staff with backgrounds in communication and p.r., he was coddled and protected in his teens and twenties by the same cabal of 'gray men' whom Diana despised, and whose influence still holds sway behind-the-scenes.

H&M arrive at the Endeavor Awards. Beautiful color blue dress on Meghan
Harry is holding an umbrella over them.

What do y'all think, does Meghan look preggie?

You might have to scroll down to see the photo.

Possibly.
I am not a clothes expert, but I find the fit of some of Meghan's clothes - back to her wedding dress not flattering.
This blue dress is one. Could be due to pregnancy, but it is a pattern I keep noticing where something is off. And I assume she has people that would help in that area. JMHO
Whereas Kate's clothes fit her perfectly, not whether I like them or not, but proper fit.

Yeah, the turquoise pencil skirt dress Meghan is wearing has a bit of wrinkling around the waist and skirt. But it doesn't bother me too much. I'm glad to see her and Harry together again at a high profile event.

I agree that Meghan doesn't seem to be overly concerned with perfect tailoring. But to be honest, Meghan always looks absolutely gorgeous in whatever she wears. I love her makeup and her pulled back flowing ponytail. She looks so glowing, relaxed and happy...

There's a kind of chic insouciance about Meghan's sartorial style. I'm not sure she wants to look too picture 'plastic' perfect. Her dress is by Victoria Beckham, one of her post-courtship, post-marriage friends.

The second photo where they are almost in silhouette and you can see the rain, is absolutely stunning! I love that shade is blue on Meghan. As for the fit of the dress, it is hard to see for sure from the photos what is going on, but Meghan is quite short waisted / long legged. And for those who are sensitive, this is not a criticism, it is a fact. Proportionally she is a lot like Diana. Anyway, anything made from a standard pattern, which can also include designer clothing made for Meghan, is not going to fit perfectly. The pattern or clothing would need to be altered. With couture, a pattern is made specifically for the client so the fit would not be a problem.

It was nice to see Meghan wearing a bold colour - she had a habit of wearing blacks or dark blues but this time she wore a stunning blue that really popped and suited her. And she doesn't look pregnant to me - in fact she looks pretty svelte and fit IMO.

Meghan is short-waisted, long-legged, and very curvy on top but rather narrow below the waist. So dresses are going to look a bit bunched on top. Kate on the other hand is very long-waisted and has a very straight figure, so dresses will fit her differently.

I love the blue dress on Meghan. She and Harry both look good.

Here is a video link showing Harry and Meghan. I have no idea if Meghan is pregnant or not (and I find it a weird thing to speculate on) but she certainly doesn’t look pregnant in this clip. She looks to be in great shape. Not everyone could wear that dress and looks as good as she does.

She looks pregnant to me. She did not have that little pooched out tummy pre-Archie. She has lost her baby weight everywhere else. Anyway she looks great & both of them look so rested & happy.

Wow, I am assuming you have not had a baby, right?

I always find the relentless baby-bump gawking of royals weird. I mean do you all do this to your friends? "Omg today she had a little paunch but last month she didn't!" This isn't really directed at anyone in the thread but the interwebs in general about royals. Like this whole "Kate must be pregnant because she cut her hair."

I would eat all of that. Like the whole tray.

Someone said she doesn't look pregnant to her so I said she looks pregnant to me. What does having a baby to do with my opinion? FTR, no I was not able to have children so of course I'm not entitled to say one way or another. This relentless posting negative replies to posts of mine is getting really old. Did I piss in your cereal or something? Why don't you put me on ignore so you don't have see my posts? I mean, I don't have kids so my posts are meaningless, right?

Impossible not to love the color ... it’s my fav. Gorgeous.

lol I never look for baby bumps. I usually totally miss it in general with everyone until it’s announced.

It doesn't matter if Meghan is pregnant or not. They will get pregnant again when it suits them both. ;) Plus, they won't be in a rush to tell the public a thing one way or the other. :D Once they depart the U.K. and head back to Canada, we may not see them again until May and the Invictus Games in The Hague.

Anyway, I can't tell just by looking at Meghan whether she's pregnant. I tend to agree with the poster who said that Meghan simply looks fit and happy. I love how she seemed to enjoy every moment of her first pregnancy and how she did not rush to lose all her baby weight, but allowed her body to take its own time. She was graceful during that whole period in trying her best to block out all the noise and nasty criticism, despite that being a tough period in the public eye for her, Harry and their friends. Even though Meghan has said she doesn't read stories about herself, either positive or negative, it's practically impossible to live in Britain and not be aware of the relentless scrutiny and non-stop pounding away the Sussexes have received at the hands of the tabloid media.

At least now, they have some freedom to breathe, to recharge, to be closer to Meghan's friends and to her Mom, and as well to take time out for themselves and their son, as they carve out a happy, purposeful life.

Here's a video showing a bit of the 2020 Endeavour Fund gala appearance, along with prescient comments by royal observer, Melanie Bromley, dating from January regarding H&M's relationship and their decision to forge a different life:

The gorgeous bright turquoise blue dress looks fantastic in motion. It appears to be made of clingy fabric which would also account for the slight creases we see photos. It looks great on Meghan, and I wonder if Beckham is finding it sold out yet. :)

The rain/umbrella theme seems to be a romantic theme for this couple.
