Excerpt:
(1/24/19) - U.S. Figure Skating announced the selection of Orleans Arena in Las Vegas as the host for 2019 Skate America, Oct. 18-20, 2019. The international event will be the first of six stops on the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.

The competition will mark the first Skate America event to be held in Las Vegas. Orleans Arena, which is adjacent to the Orleans Hotel and Casino, hosts prominent sporting events concerts and other types of performances. Tickets for Skate America will go on sale later this spring.

"U.S. Figure Skating is excited Skate America will head to Las Vegas next season," U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raith said. "We think this will be an outstanding destination for both American and international figure skating fans.”

This makes sense: Orleans Arena has been searching for new ice event opportunities for several years now since the Wranglers ECHL hockey team folded a few years ago (example: this arena hosted the Continental Cup of Curling last week).

Did you read the full release? The Orleans hotel is adjacent to the arena. Also, Uber & Lyft are plentiful and usually cheaper for getting around the LV hotels.

There's also a train, although it doesn't cover a lot of territory. But I rode it all the time when I was there.

I'm totally in! Was hoping it might be at T-Mobile arena instead since that's on the Strip, but I'm assuming it's maybe too big for the event?

I checked air fare and was  seems weird because Vegas is usually lower fare. But am thinking about it. Sounds like a FSU party is in order

At least a few years ago (when I was last there), there was shuttle service between the Orleans and its sister property on the Strip, but I am not sure if this is still going on.

Fairly decent rates for the hotel right now, although I hate resort fees. Any hints yet as to where Skate Canada will be? Trying to decide between the two.

The train/tram is along the main Strip. On the west side it's short and free, on the east side it is farther but is expensive (if I recall like $12/day!). It looks like this arena is quite a schlep from the Strip though.

I had heard it was going to be at the T Mobile Arena, which would have been so much more convenient.

Still.... Vegas. Lol

I saw on hotels.com that the arena is just 0.1 mi. From the Orleans hotel - I didn’t know there was an Orleans hotel.

My time share is listed as a 15 minutes walk which is pretty good by Vegas standards. I will decide later where to stay, but it sounds good.

I am jazzed!
(Even though New Orleans would be even cooler.)

I know, right? When is New Orleans going to get a shot? But still, Vegas actually makes sense, because there is so much to do there. Better than Reading PA, for god's sake! Yay, I'll be doing SA and WC in Quebec next season!
