  • taylorpowers23Is Alina Zagitova still competing?
  • tanjaflade@taylorpowers23 No, she was not allowed to leave the country as a minor because a document was missing.
  • schwab228did you speak with a russian athlete/coach about it or are you repeating only the presstext of the Russfed?
  • tanjaflade@schwab228 I am on site in Bratislava and I spoke to people on site.
  • schwab228hmm ok...sounds still unbelievable. It´s not the first time she travels abroad....anyway thanks for the answer.
  • tanjaflade@schwab228 It is definitely true. Probably the necessary document had expired and she hadn't noticed. She was at the airport in Moscow.

In Russia is it the child who looks after these details and follows up, the parents or her coaching team? Is there any norm. or does differ from club to club.

well... it depends on the family and the team.. It is parents/parent who must fill out the forms and go to the notary to sign. Who is to be responsible for checking the accuracy, dates and making sure it makes it to the airport, is up to the family or the group.

Alina's Grand-mother, who is her guardian and helps her with various skating matters, already messed up 2 times, once she forgot this document back in Dec. 2016, and the other time she forgot Alina's CD with music. Eteri at one of those times said something about "want my skaters to learn to be independent and responsible".

I think it would be reasonable for 16 year old to check the status/dates and taking with you 3 main pieces of paperwork: tickets, passport, parent release. But CD programme music, i think is coaches' responsibility.

Her Grand-mom is not that old... but if she has "old soviet mentality" then "precision and punctuality" may not be her strength.. https://images2.domashnyochag.ru/upload/article/2c0/2c04d840634eed99a468ffc11f2f96c3.jpg

You seem to an expert on all things Russian/ Soviet. However, sweeping generalizations are never true, especially if they are based on the experiece of one emigre family. And yes , most Russian people under the age of at least 45 have heard the term "полукровка" in the context if Nazi concentration camps

Don't play "PC games" with me by evoking "Nazi" and don't give yourself a cheap mental reward for "acting progressive". You don't know what you're talking about, so no cookies for your effort to "save the world from evil words".

My relatives and family are Holocaust survivors and some died in Babiy Yar. Russian young people under 45, or to be exact, high-school age and higher, read the following books today ALL titled "Halfblood" Полукровка.

Elena Chizhova, a well known intellectual from St. Petersburg, an acclaimed Russian novelist, , PhD in economist, professor, winner of Russian Booker 2009 Literature Award. Novel “Halfblood/Полукровка

That was what Eteri said in an interview recently
Sorry I wasn’t clear in my question. What does she mean by Alina carried her on? I envision Alina piggy backing her into the ice for her program to save her the energy of skating out there. I’m joking but just wanting to understand what she meant

Eteri used the word "pulled her". And in the given context (of the whole conversation) it was meant as "gave her a push" or "nudged her" to be even hungrier and more eager to win/skate like her life depended on it. I sort of agree that Med felt Zag behind her "and there is no turning back but go all out". At the same time Zag probably was "nudged" by Med to do her maximum. They both fed off each other in various ways.

Thank-you for explanation. I think after this Alina might tend to check all those things. It is not something that can be accomplished in half an hour if notaries are involved. As important as Alina's career is to the family especially now she is Olympic champion it wouldn't hurt for her parents to make a note each time they go to the notary and check it frequently. It is not the same thing as running out of milk although I tend to get less than positive feedback at home when that happens from my males.

https://fs-gossips.com/eteri-tutberidze-to-stay-in-juniors-longer-is-a-huge-regress-for-girls/

- Some comments from Eteri. Mostly on the junior girls and the transitions to seniors. Apparently Alina did train a quad in the year before the Olympics, but they stopped due to risk. There does not seem to be any plans to start training the quad again. I gather because Alina is considered too old and puberty has happened. Eteri also comments that Trusova is stronger than Zagitova. Eteri speaks enthusiastically for Trusova's fanaticism for training.

https://fs-gossips.com/eteri-tutberidze-thanks-to-alina-zhenya-performed-so-well-at-the-olympics/

This is a translation of the comments about Zagitova and Medvedeva at the Olympics.

Also, how terribly stressful for Alina to go to the airport and discover that her papers were wrong. I feel sorry for her having to tell everyone she can't compete. I'm sure all the young skaters in that group will know to double-check their paperwork in advance now. If it was a super important competition I'm sure they could have rushed something through and got here there (Bratislava is not far away at all). But maybe it was considered not worth it.

So Eteri feels that Medvedeva was only able to win a medal because Alina was dragging her!!!!! WTF

I find the most telling thing is how favoured Trusova is at present. Will Trusova be competing with the seniors at Russian Nationals?

I think any skater that gets on top in Eteri's group needs to savour their moment in the sun for the brief moment while it lasts.

PS It's kind of :yikes:how Eteri's face doesn't move at all when she speaks...

I don't intend to engage in any verbal fight but today I asked two groups of students ( aged 19-22) if they heard/read any of the books you mentioned. None of them have. And yes
,they thought they were about half- breed animals

There is no expectation that every student will read every published book. The original point was that this word is used in literary language, and is considered normal for not just regular use, but as a title of for books published in the open market. It is not a "pejorative" as some suggest.

There is a difference between what ‘is considered normal’ and what you consider it normal. Initially I asked about it because to me it seemed pretty rude/cringeworthy thing to say about someone and you used it about a skater. You told me that it is considered alright in Russia. Since then several Russian posters wrote that it is actually not acceptable term, but you still insist that it is perfectly fine. Languages and terminology change. For example, there used to be time when people would use term ‘coloured’ for any non-white person; now you wouldn’t use it (hopefully). I am not trying to argue, but wouldn’t it be easy to accept that your vocabulary may need some updating, rather than insisting that it is absolutely fine calling people of dual heritage half-breeds? Maybe fifty years ago it was fine. Now it isn’t, if you are talking about people and not about horses or dogs.

Eteri's face moves just fine, when she wants to..... She is into constant improvement of herself, and some years ago took Public Speaking classes, where they teach you to keep your upper facial muscles still and calm, and only to use the muscles around the mouth, it supposed to look classier and more professional.

When she wants to, she laughs and frowns and winks.. :D

If in a country a number of books, songs, films come out with a particular word in the title, it's not me who considers it normal, but what the whole country...;)

I had no idea that public speaking classes smooth and plump your face! Imagine how many new students they could attract with this information...

Eteri tends to come across as quite :EVILLE: in most interviews, at least from an American perspective. However, their team of skaters are always prepared, and the results speak for themselves.

And credit where credit is due: Tursynbayeva looks like a brand new skater after training with Team Tutberidze over the summer. Not only was the program totally better than any of the dreck she had with Orser, but the elements looked more solid than ever, and she actually was engaged and relating to the music for once.

I wish Zagitova success this season, she has grown quite a bit, the favored juniors are landing quads all around her, it can't be easy at all--but maybe that plays into Tutberidze's strategy. We'll see.

The issue raised was not about "smooth and plump", but lack of mimic and facial expression.

Well, considering that Tarasova is 71, and Buianova is 55, with Tutberidze being 44, is that really a fair comparison? No, it's nonsensical.
I know.... that's why i wonder why those "petty b..tches" are so envious of her....

Actually, Eteri is a very emotional and sensitive person, that is why she overcompensates with various gestures, facial expressions or lack of them, to hide it and to maker her face look calm and collect. And she is absolutely right, given what a "zoo" Russian skating world is..

And yes, her success speaks for itself..

If you're a Russian lady skater, you grab what medals you can when you can because the shark pool is going to shove you right into the deep end. You have a 2-3 year shelf life to make it to JGPF, GPF, Euros, Worlds or the Olympics. Maybe. If you're lucky. After that you hope you can find a Challenger and maybe make a little money. Go team.
