That's is not the "history". Several big name medalists, Shelepen, Lipnitskay, and few others, switched from Tutberidze to other coaches, and it was well covered and discussed. Med did not set any precedents.
Polina's "decisions" started much earlier, she wanted to quit skating all together in 2016 and then in 2017, and said so herself. Her parents insisted that she keeps trying (since so much was invested). Her parents also were AGAINST her leaving Tutberidze, but Polina wanted a less competitive atmosphere. All this was said by Polina herself. It is absolutely BEST for Polina to practice in a more calm, less competitive environment. People are different.
That is your opinion of Alina's personality.... But her actions tell otherwise. She is acting very smart in public and with media, concentrating on her work, shows and endorsements, and not any more "unstable" than any other girls at this time of the season. She is doing her job and not getting involved with "external BS and game playing" unlike others.
There are arguments to be made (and have been made) if Med's reaction and decision after the Olympics are level headed. Her own mother was very much against moving to Orser/Canada, and only agreed to ditch her career in Moscow and accompany Med "on trial basis" and because Med strongly insisted. Med would not have switched if she won the Olympics. She was driven to switch mostly by her ego.
Anyone "may move", or "discover a cure for cancer", or join a monastery..
Kostornaya, or any top-level skater, still ranks where he/she ranks in a given season. Kostornaya (since it is your example) is #2 Jr. behind Trusova right now internationally and nationally. If she stays with Eteri, or moves to another coach, she will still be currently #2, unless she learns 3A and/or quads, or if Trusova starts falling in competition. When she moves to Sr. next year, she will still rank as she would rank with any coach, and where she ranks as Sr. will be clearer at the end of this season, when we see how other Sr. girls do. Being #1 at your rink maybe a mental pleasure, but in competition one still ranks where one ranks based on performance and abilities.
Eteri certainly brought out the best in Kostornaya artistically, so the only reason to switch is nothing else but an EGO and wanting to be the "queen of the rink" for sake of an Ego... and that (ego) should be applied in moderation, to the "athletic parts" and not "social issues".... Sometimes "bigger and stronger ego" means sticking around in a tougher environment when the stakes are high.
Kostornaya is a fighter, and is VERY competitive, and not just in skating... Plus..... there are no top coaches left in Russia who do not already have their own #1 Ladies, plus few more in #2 and #3 spots. This season will be Trussy with Quads vs. Kostorka with magic flow...

You seem to forget that there is also Scherbakova... Kostornaya may very good be third in Eteri's group this season and this may have consequences.
It is obvious that you have the mission to advocate for Eteri and her group even you don't have the arguments.
I am sure that Evgenia's decision to move was the only valid decision she could make if she wants to stay relevant and competitive and she surely wants so. And she said that nobody opposed to her decision or tried to convince her otherwise.
Polina was inspired by Medvedeva when moving if you remember the timing. She put the short program with Eteri and then in a week - after Medvedeva- she decided to leave....
When it comes to Zagitova she has an history of inconsistency.... she was clean only at Euros and Olympics with the help of a lot of good luck I would say. We shall see if she confirms that her Olympic title is truly deserved or just a matter of chance.
On the other hand, Medvedeva is consistent - even in critical moments - and rarely makes mistakes.

Scherbakova is scored behind Kostornaya at the last event; she is younger, less polished and her quad is not secure. Kostornya is working on 3A, and may use it in competition shortly. If Kostornaya moves (hypothetically) to any other top coach, that coach a) has other #1 girls in the club, b) she will not be able to see on daily basis "what her main competition is doing" (Eteri's girls). That's a big minus, to place "one's head in the sand like an ostrich" and to think that "in your immediate world everything is ok". Plus, Kostornaya is VERY competitive, very...
There is no practical benefit in moving; Eteri wants all her top girls on the podium, she knows ice is slippery, and gives all girls "the best she can", but then it is up to the girls to "fight it out between themselves" who places where.. That is quite obvious for the last few years... Eteri sees "gold potential" is all girls she keeps by choice.. And yes, some she sees as "2nd tier", and those can or should consider their future, to move or to work harder to become top tier..... but all top 3, Kost, Turs, Scherb, are getting the coaching team's maximums.
i am residing for 40+ years in California, never met Eteri.... but she must be paying me millions to do so...I am glad you're "sure"...

Her SP was done first, then there was an argument with Eteri, and she left the rink, and by certain date in May skaters have to announce their season's plans and changes if any, so she announced it right at that time, before LP was ready.
Polina is MUCH better off in a different environment, she made the right decision for herself. Eteri's methods work for some but not for all. What is such a big deal? There are coaching changes happening all summer, elite skaters leave elite coaches and move to others....
Tarakanova changed coaches 7 times.... since she was 5 years old, her last 4 coaches are: Butyrskaya (1 year), Panova (3.5 years), Tutberidze (1 year), and now Pluschenko...
Eteri has many girls, and only the strong ones, with certain personalities and mentality stay.... Others should find happiness in another place.... why not?

- She was nervous during Test Skate because considers this event very important. Her SP went well and was well practiced. Her FS is not finished/polished and she did not have much practice. Plans to work on both.
- She never considered not skating at Worlds/Milan. Olympics were exhausting and she came home with a bad flue, but had scheduled events and appearances. Yet knew she had to skate at the Worlds to assure 3 quotes for next year.
- She did not show her happiness in K-n-C when learning she won the Gold in order not to hurt Zhennya’s feelings, because they are together with Zhennya who wanted Gold badly and worked very hard for it and is very talented, and Alina was embarrassed to show happiness. But later during medal ceremony Alina allowed herself to feel happy and even wanted to sing the anthem, but held back.
- She is excited about POTO and even more about “Carmen”. She asked for “Carmen” before, but was told she is too young for it. Now the coaches told her she can skate to it.
- Her only wish (as a gold medalist) was to have dog, because she loves animals, has different animals, she does not have too many real friends now, and believes that animals are her true friends who will not betray her: “animals are your friends, sometimes better than friends because they are not insincere and can even understand your feelings sometimes”.
- She will be picking up Masaru from the dog trainer the next day, and looking forward to having him back.
- Her most important wish for next season is “to feel calmness”.

Does Medvedeva's mother speak English?
I hope she is able to do some film-related projects while she's in Canada, both remotely and locally. Ontario replaced Vancouver as the go-to place for film and TV in Canada, after Ontario came up with financial incentives for its film industry when the Canadian dollar was stronger. (The LA people preferred Vancouver because of shortish flights in the same time zone, but, money talked.)

I think Zhanna Devyatova (Evgeniya's mother) speaks some English. But she does not work in anime production or arts department for quite some time. Her uncle (mother's brother) is a well known anime and film artist, who worked for many years at Souzmultfilm (Soviet Anime Production Studios). Zhanna started out as an assist. production manager, when she graduated from Arts Institute, but now many years later, she is an admin manager, in the Distribution and Licencing Department for "Fiksix Cartoons". So, the whole family is artistic, but now mostly in management.

Ha... while taking a diff. surname is not part of "russian culture", there is "some cultural issues" involved...
Originally Zhennya had father's family name on the Birth Certificate: Evgeniya Armanovna Babasyan.
Her grand-mother's married family name is Devyatova, so Zhennya's mother Zhanna is also Devyatova, and did not take Arman's family name when they were together.
But grand-mother's maiden family name was Medvedeva.
Now the "cultural part", just telling the truth....
Babasyan is an Armenian family name.
Devyatova is a Russian family name, but it is not "in your face" Russian (it means "9th Child born to the Family" and it come from an old russian village tradition when people were illiterate, to name their children by the order they were born, First, Second, Third, etc).
Medvedeva is VERY MUCH "in your face Russian" classic family name, means "the child of a Bear", plus the VP of Russia is "Medvedev"..
So, given certain level of "Russian nationalism" in the country, with a family name like "Medvedev/Medvedeva" you sound like you are VERY VERY Russian, and it helps people to like the person if they are patriotic.
When Zhennya became a public figure and started to compete nationally and internationally, she switched from Babasyan to Medvedeva, to show that she is "more Russian than Armenian" (as she said in some interviews last year).
It is a standard gimmick for people who are half-breeds, Russian + another former USSR nationality; to make sure the public knows you're Russian, you take the more Russian sounding family name from your clan or relatives.

I have no idea whether her mother is still with her but I don't think there's anything strange if she is now living alone abroad. That's what many people do when they move to study abroad at a young age. Many skaters also live alone abroad. For example, Papadakis and Cizeron were quite young when they moved to Canada and I don't think their mothers moved with them.

I don't think it's strange either, as Tiff moved to Russia without me when she was 19. When she was 13, I moved to France with her, which is understandable, but not when she was an adult.

Did you get all this so called information from some shitty Russian tabloids? Or is it just your own thoughts?
Reality is much simplier: for an under-aged child in Russia it’s much easier to travel across the country and abroad if you have the same surname as your mother/person you often travel with.
I saw them live and M/G were a league above everyone else. They are great, nothing juniorish about them at all. P/R are my personal favorites & they look extremely polished and solid, but of course the double jumps are going to hold them back for now. K/S didn't quite do it for me, personally...they are slow & didn't seem very convincing as a pair or in their performances. Just IMO of course. Obviously they were still better than the rest of the field, but with so many good Russian jr pairs, I wouldn't bet on them.
By the way, Petr's 3A-3Lo was awesome!
I loved it when Sasha did it & I never dreamed I'd get to see it with my own eyes!

If her mother Zhanna keeps her career, then if Zhennya needs a back-up job someday, she can work for her mother. That mother’s job should not be lost!

Did you get all this so called information from some shitty Russian tabloids? Or is it just your own thoughts?
Reality is much simplier: for an under-aged child in Russia it’s much easier to travel across the country and abroad if you have the same surname as your mother/person you often travel with.
But! Zhennya did not take Mother’s surname which is Devyatova.
Zhennya switched from father's surname and took her grand-mother’s Maiden surname, Medvedeva, at the time when her mother was “Devyatova”..
It is true that in some (not all) cases it is easier for a child to have same last name as the parent, but when Zhennya was young, she was “Babasyan”, never took mother’s name Devyatova, and became “Medvedeva”.
Funny thing is, that it is now her mother who is using “Medvedeva” more often to “match her daughter”…
(the ease of travel for an under-aged child with same family name is not black and white. For regular people it is best for Mother and Child to have the same name. In cases of public personalities, it depends which parent is more famous or infamous, because it affects “treatment” and other things…

I am quite confused. So calling anyone else who is of mixed backgrounds a half-breed would be pretty offensive, but calling a Russian of mixed backgrounds a half breed is socially acceptable? I am not trying to be awkward, I am just trying to understand this issue. @Ka3sha , would you be offended to be called a half breed? (You are Russian, aren’t you?)

my post was, with a disclaimer, a "Russian slice of life", and to use the term "полу-кровка" (in english translation) was part of it to show the "sentiments about ethnicity".

Seriously speaking, I have never ever heart about this "half-blood/breed" (полукровка) term been used in this particular context. So am also quite confused, to be honest. Must be someone is living in his/her own reality

The only time I heard "полукровка" was when I discussed "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" with my aunt, since in Russian the title is actually "Гарри Поттер и Принц-полукровка " (literally: "Garry Potter and the Prince-Half-Blood").

That is a surprise because just few weeks ago her mother was in one of her IG live feeds, in the back ground cutting fruits for Zhennya and a few visitors..
I have no idea where her mom is now, nor have any preference…
