Yes, Kinayu is Yuhana's younger sister. Kinayu won a bronze at Novice Nationals last season, and she can land 3A in practice like her sister Yuhana. I'm sad about Araki too. It somewhat looked Araki was not in good shape during the national Jr camp. I don't know what's actually wrong with her (so far).

Elizaveta K. and Nazarov are here, so by implication the Russians’ provisional plan is for Shevchenko/Eremenko and Ushakova/Nekrasov to get one of the remaining places. JGP Vancouver is the only event without a top-tier Russian team.

The Greens belatedly appear. This is probably their best chance at an outright win, though two silvers would almost certainly be enough for a Final spot. Hard to know how they’ll do, particularly as there’s no news as to why they were absent from the scene in recent months.

Fisher/Malette-Paquette also belatedly show up after unexplained withdrawal from earlier events. Also, happy to see Bronsard/Bouaraguia here; they’re new to the junior scene, but were really good at Championnats.

Nice men’s lineup, between Pulkinen, Phan, and Sumoto. They could all podium and make the final, actually — depending, in the first two cases, on how they perform in their first event.

F/MP have been moved to subs and replaced with McIsaac/Circelli. M/C are also listed for JGP Canada, although we'll see if they keep both. They didn't show in summer comps that they'd be first in line for multiple events, so I wouldn't be surprised if they only do one of these two then are at JGP 6 or 7 if they earn a 2nd event.

It was noted on another board that Corey posted on Instagram that he is injured and would not be doing JGP. Not sure if that was just for his men's events (he's listed as subs for men's events)? So maybe both M/C assignments are just place holders for now in hopes they can compete later in circuit

Then that is the same as Bruce Waddell. He has a foot problem which is keeping him from competing in singles but he is ok to do dance.

The men were pretty disappointing all around. I fully expect 4-5 of the ladies qualifying to the final to be from Russia.

That depends how the Russian federation spreads the assignments. There is only 12 spots per country in the JGP pairs events. If they spread those spots between 6 pairs, each of them two spots, then there could be fully Russian JGPF. But in the past they often spread it among seven pairs to give more pairs to have international experience, which means only 5 pairs has two spots and the remaining two pairs have only one spot. So then there can be only five pairs in JGPF.

Similarly in ladies; there is 14 spots. If they split it among seven or eight skaters, then there is a chance. If they spread it among nine or more skaters like last year, there won’t be a chance of fully Russian JGPF because only five or even less will have two events.

The federation has to balance giving opportunities and skaters development with having fully Russian JGPF. Having fully Russian JGPF may sound good, but then it may happen that someone will have to be sent to junior worlds without having any proper international experience (if the skater places well at the junior nationals) and that would be quite risky. So it makes sense wanting more skaters to do JGP events. Besides, I don’t think the federation cares about fifth or sixth placement at JGPF. They care about medals, anything worse is just a failure for them.

After seeing their first competition (only SP), I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to replace Kvartalova/Sviatchenko with Labazina/Rakhmanin. Mind you, K/S still have to skate the FS this afternoon so maybe the yesterday skate was just a bad day. They may do better today.

Has a sweep ever been done? Years ago, the US ladies got 1-2-3 but has one country ever gotten all of the final slots.

ETA: Kang has not finished competing in LTU so his name entered for Ostrava is a placeholder for now.

I fully expect Russia to get all six ladies spots. Young You has been one of the strongest non-Russian skaters this season, but 3rd in her first event doesn't bode well for making the final. Now that's not to say that Russia won't have gotten some help to accomplish that. The scoring of the second Russians have included some quite generous PCS marking so far. For example, Taurasina lost the TES mark to Yokoi and You in the Slovakia LP, but had higher PCS marks.

If Nana Araki is recovered from her illness and gets two of the later JGPs, she's about the only non-Russian left who could potentially make the final.

ETA: Or if Russia sends fewer than 6 girls to two assignments, as @hanca mentioned above, we could have a real fight on our hands for spot #6 between Japanese and Korean skaters.

Do you think the US will give the 3 ladies a 2nd chance or will they substitute in a new lady?

I am thinking that 50/50 Ting may get a second chance. I expect substitutions for the other two. Why not give at least 2 more Junior ladies some international experience.

Some do. Others take the not unreasonable position that if you competed for those places at a test skate and won them, they're yours unless injury or some other unforeseen event takes you out of the competition, which is an attitude I have to say I prefer.
