Forthcoming upgrade...

Hi,
It looks great! I think it would be nice to have a "Refresh Page" option at the bottom of each page, especially on active threads. Also, once the page is refreshed, positioning the viewing at the first unread post automatically, perhaps delineating the first unread post with a different color line above it?

I'll agree with the idea of having more than just a "like" option; sometimes I have a reaction to a post that is 4 pages before the end of the thread, and it would just be easier to have an option to more specifically denote my response, rather than to respond 4 pages later :)

I'll also have to adjust to there not being a delineation at the top of the page of the pinned posts and the rest of them...but I'm sure that's just a "me" thing

I like the changes. (I probably already said that.) I think "Post thread" should be "New thread" though as it took me a while to figure out what that button would do.

And, yeah, I'm on the "more kinds of likes" train too. :D

It looks good. It would be great to have more reactions than just like for posts. Thanks Sharpie and Server Guy.

I have not experienced any problems on my ipad so far. I use the ipad 80 percent if the time.

Per feedback, I've adjusted the typeface, made links bolder, names brighter and the font size a touch bigger.

Thanks :)

I have a few more things:
  • I'm not sure if you have this planned or not but I really liked being able to navigate to an individual page without using the next button. On the test site, I can only go to the first, next, or last page. If there is a way to navigate to another page, I haven't figured it out yet.
  • Would it be possible to put 'show ignored posts' on the top of the page in addition to the bottom? There have been many times that I've wanted to show ignored posts when I load a new page in order to maintain the flow of the conversation but I have to scroll to the bottom of the page and then scroll back up.
  • I like the Facebook reactions idea.
  • Finally (for now :D), would it be possible to be able to adjust the font size (or even line spacing) ourselves? Like how some sites have a minus sign and a plus sign to adjust the font size up or down. The new bigger font size is too big for me :slinkaway

I was thinking about this too but then realized you can go to any page by clicking at the number of pages on the bottom (e.g. 1 of 62) and then it will give you the option to type in the number of the page you want to go to.

I especially like the page number format at the bottom of page. I must have a smallish keyboard.

Thank you!

I would like the more than the like option. I disagree about the dislike argument. Sometimes I don't want to get into a verbal encounter, but want to express my disagreement with the point. - I guess it would be like the return of the negative rep feature several upgrades ago.

The issue I see with a dislike button is that it doesn’t tell you why someone dislikes a post. It could be that they don’t like the argument, they don’t like the writing style or tone, or they just don't like the writer. Also, oftentimes in posts, the writer is making several points at once. If a post like that gets a thumbs-down, the author doesn’t even know which point is being responded to.

I’ve been wondering if there was a reason why there isn’t a floating down-arrow (just up). I assumed maybe because few people use it, but then I used it to make this post.

I'm exploring the possibility and implications of having "live" updating threads at some point in the near future.

I can get this tweaked. :)

You can still navigate to a specific page by clicking the button that has an ellipsis on it. This will open up a gadget and let you enter the page number and will take you there.

I can look in to adding the show ignored posts to the top of the page.

For the custom font size thing, I would recommend using your browser's zoom functionality though I'll look in to the feasibility of the idea.

Ratings also show up nicely in your alerts:

Will we still be able to fold up sections that we are not reading every day, such as the Kiss & Cry during the off season? I liked that feature especially when I was really busy because it focused me on the sections of most interest. Thanks!!

I've tried resizing the text in both Chrome and Samsung Internet (both on mobile) and I can't zoom out and when I zoom in, the text doesn't rewrap. It's not a huge deal though.

But while I have your attention :D, something else I've noticed on both this site and the new one, my keyboard (SwiftKey) doesn't work well at all in the reply box. For example, it literally took my a couple minutes to type “I've" yesterday because it kept autocorrecting to "I'e“. There are some other words that I have problems with *only in the reply box*. Autocorrect isn't the issue because FSU is the only place I have the problem and I removed the incorrect words from my personal dictionary and still had issues, several times in a row. It's taken me several very frustrating minutes to type this response. Anyway, I'm just throwing this out here in case you have a super obvious and super easy fix :D

I didn't know we could do that!

I strongly agree with both your posts about this. Seeing the extreme negativity of the Olympic season--to say nothing about PI, which I don't read anymore--makes me worried that the "red angry" button is going to produce a bunch of weird and bad dynamics on FSU. For example, there are posters who have called me "mentally ill" and "full of shit." Are they going to post "angry" at all my posts? Are other people going to use the response feature endlessly? Because that could dissuade people from posting, and even though there are some posters and posts some of us would rather not deal with, "ignore" and "report" cover those bases pretty well, IMO.

Also, one thing I really appreciate about FSU is that it's possible to hear multiple sides of arguments, whether they're about politics, current events, or skating. Sure, people get heated all the time, but there are well-written and -reasoned posts that some people are not going to agree with and it seems both sophomoric and against the spirit of agonistic discourse to have an "angry/dislike" button for that.

It just seems generally unproductive, negative, and dramatic to me. And now this last thing I'm going to say might seem hypocritical because I realize it (and other stuff in my post) could seem dramatic, but I do want to say it: I will not use the angry/dislike response button, ironically or otherwise.

Yeah, I can get this added back. :)

I’m not entirely familiar with Android so I’ll need to get back to you on this. :D
