The Shibutanis Thread Cinco...Mambo!

I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing the sex, the problem is that some people think that's the only acceptable way to ice dance. It's narrow minded. Ice dance can be siblings celebrating, the beauty of pure skating, and the story of a hooker with a heart of gold or whatever Moulin Rouge is (I've never seen it). It doesn't have to be one thing or the other.
 
I'm so happy I hope they continue to soar. They've accomplished so much in the face of adversity. I was really preparing myself mentally that they'd be shafted (V/M too) so their mental strength and fortitude is incredibly admirable and they are inspirations.

I'm not even gonna go in about the judging, I'm just so happy.

It's funny I told some guys who know nothing about skating that the fix would be in for ice dance like always:

Gold - P/C. French trading their votes in everything else in exchange for this.
Silver - V/M wuzrobbed (I have no idea how they pulled it out)
Bronze - U.S. going with the white couple over the Asian one.

I really have no dog in the fight between the two American teams but that just seemed like obvious USFS political logic to me. One team skated well and the other team made some mistakes otherwise it would have played out that way. Tough break for H/D and I would be congratulating them too if they had won bronze, but this is the Shibs night and it's a great story they persevered against the odds and were able to achieve this success after such a long career together.

Thanks Dobre for sharing the essay this morning. It was a wonderfully calming read prior to the free dance.

Someone asked for my feedback on the live in rink version. I have to say it all went by so quickly. It seemed seamless and I was holding my breath along with you. Everything was magical. From the opening spin to the last choreo spin. The entire program was skated with purpose and just flowed beautifully. I know I'm not doing it justice to put into words. The crowd reaction from when they were announced and at the end was loud and powerful. We all knew we were treated to something special and personal. The Shibs truly were sharing something intimate with us - their lives and journey. It wasn't an act or performance. (Not taking anything away from the other medalists). It was all very heartfelt and sincere. I think that's the best way to describe.

For them to get L4 on both Steps, was amazing. I'm not sure they've ever achieved that? Maybe Boston Worlds? I just want to encourage everyone to not doubt the scores or think 'what if'. The result is the result and nothing takes away this Bronze. They earned it against all odds!

We received tickets to the medal ceremony tonight but can't go due to train tickets to return to Seoul.

This was the perfect ending to our trip! Seeing the Shibs and team USA win a medal.

We return home tomorrow and I look forward to watching the ladies free. Go Mirai!

All I can say is thank you Shibs for letting us all journey with you to Paradise!!!

One of the reasons why I stared crying during the performance was because they seemed so fast, they really let go! Years of people calling them slow and small, none of that nonsense today. Glad the fancam supports it.
