If they'd gotten even zeros (which I could handle, since they weren't horrible, just not worthy of increasing the mark), they'd be another 1.3 behind, which is about where I think they should be.

VM had all level 4, and almost all +3 across all elements (6 of the judges gave them +2 for their rhumba pattern - P/C had all +3, except for two judges who gave +2)

The scores for the twizzles are...irksome. But eh, on to the free dance!

Well I still cannot see it with V&M skating last & if they have a clean emotional skate that they can still give it to P&C. I mean V&M should be able to have just done enough to stay ahead & win..

If what is skated and the marks don't match, yes I think it is possible. ISU needs to clean out the politics in this sport. There are lots of judged sports who do not have to live with this level of controversy. Despite V/M and W/P, the sport is declining in Canada. Money is part of the equation, but a huge factor in the sport's decline is the idea that it's a glorified beauty contest that is mostly fixed. People don't take it seriously. Every time the judges and tech specialists go out there and don't follow the rules, this is reinforced. Eventually, the politics is going to create enough of bad press that the IOC will be forced to get involved. V/M free dance went viral last week. If V/M skate lights out tomorrow to close down the competition, but the marks don't reflect what was skated, it very well could get enough attention to create a problem for the ISU and the IOC.

I think the issue is that, without jumps and clear falls or stumbles, the general public doesn't assume it understands ice dance scoring. In SLC B/S had a clear (if minor) error that anyone could see. I also don't think every-4-years fans should determine what is fair judging. Even if it ends up benefitting V/M.

On another note, I've looked at the protocols and the judges were split 6-3 in favour of P/C, with Canada, Japan and Israel (by a sliver in their case) having V/M in first. The US and Russia, as expected, were strongly pro-P/C. When you only have the ice dance powerhouse of Japan on your side, you're not going to win too often... I hate the "levels of difficulty" system of scoring but it's the only thing keeping V/M in it right now.

that's not entirely true because not every element have the same potential max goe, so when you give +3 in the NtMiSt has more value than a +3 in twizzles for example.

Ok but these rankings don't take into account the 1.5 difference in technical base value, which comes from the tech panel. When you deduct for that, Turkey had the 2 teams tied so it's 5-3 in favour of P/C with 1 tie. I suspect even big P/C fans know that's not very representative of what happened out on the ice.

yes you're right ahah I'm sorry it's 8 am for me and I haven't slept at all. I think a lot will come down to the draw.

Until the NBC video comes up. This is what Tanith & Terry said during and after V/M's SD:

Tanith (during the step sequence): This element, the non-touch mid-line step sequence is the highlight of the program for me, executed with such finesse and precision, staying close together, and they are not just skating it, they are dancing it, from start to finish, all while executing these difficult turns. It’s what sets these two apart.

Tanith (during the pattern dance): This program suits them so well. They find this rare balance of connecting as much with each other as they do with the audience, and they are so fluid in the transition between the two.

Terry (at end of skate) Talk to any athlete. It might be more difficult to stay at the top level than to get there initially. They not only got there, stayed there for a while, but stepped away and have returned to that level.

Tanith (during replay): They are so good, Terry. It would be shocking except they just keep delivering this way consistently, time and time again. By the way, that side-by-side footwork sequence I said I loved so much has received a perfect score.



I think Tanith's comments are spot on. I especially like her comment that they are "dancing it"!

No way PC with that performance should be ahead of the Shibs and HD. I still can't understand how they get plus 3 for the rh while having their legs totally non alligned during the kps. They hit them and that's ok but the goe is ridiculous. They also got a perfect score for the no touch. Well at least today was evident how biased the judging is when it comes to them. How can u get 10s in ss when you make two evident mistakes

When it comes to SS I'm a bit fixated. Especially in ID and Pairs, and I know where I stand here.
It's the quality I love most and I'm capable of watching a couple with great SS, doing crossovers all day long. :D
I have never understood the marks given for SS anywhere, in particular ID and Pairs though.

Having said that uber fans whine to much for my liking. The self pity and victim playing is off putting. The competition is not over.

Well all I can say is..if V&M skate tonight last & do a clean beautiful performance..they HAVE to give it to them..would look utterly rididculous if they didn't & highly suspect..

It’s because about 6 out of the 9 judges want them to win. The GOE on the twizzles and lift were way too high and she also had a twizzle problem in the corner of the pattern steps. That element was called level 3 because of that mistake, but the GOEs are not reflecting what’s going on on the ice. Their PCS was a joke too considering the performance fell flat - the response from the crowd not nearly as good as C/L, Shibs or V/M.

I understand she was very distracted because of that unfortunate problem but you still need to judge what is actually going on on the ice.

It’s politics. Ice dance has always been like this.

Interesting how Sharon Rogers really hammered V&M in the scores. Anyway, the PCS marks should not be anywhere as close as they are between the two teams. Actually, if it were judged fairly, H&D and the Shibs should be ahead of P&C given what went on on the ice.

Wait what? No way 6 of the 9 judges put P&C after that mess? All the judges but US & FRA had V&M 1st..
 
I went to 2013 worlds to watch Tessa and Scott live. I was gutted for them when the judges buried them almost 4 points behind M/C after Tessa's twizzle error, leaving them virtually no chance for gold at home. Not so tonight. The judges still left P/C with a chance. But I believe in Tessa and Scott. I believe they will skate lights out for their last competitive skate. And that's all that really matters at the end.

So terrified that the Canadian judge will have the bad luck of being off the FD panel..

I can see with our luck the Canadian being gone & FRA/RUSS/US still being on the FD panel..if that happens we are totally ****ed..
