That's incorrect. Kim/Kam got a host spot into the individual event.

That isn't quite accurate. South Korea's pairs team is allowed to compete in the individual event as the host nation and because not all of the 10 additional spaces allotted to competitors for the Team Event were utilized by the qualifying countries. This year, because South Korea also qualified for the Team Event, the additional athletes quota wasn't an issue for the individual event.

They should for Olympics, a korean is a korean.... one thing if people inside the original Korea wanted to split, but not because USA/USSR intervention.

No. South Korea has a host spot (that they will not lose) and North Korea has an IOC wildcard spot with the result that there will be two pair teams representing Korea.

I was just confused because if they were to be considered one team, then they wouldn't need to use a host spot since Ryom/Kim already qualified but it seems Ryom/Kim having a wildcard sport changes things up.

(I don't like the hype and wording of the situation by the western press), but there is a disagreement taking place now between S.K and N.K side over a joint Olympics Cultural event, which if one reads further into the texts, will not affect athletic venues, hopefully.

Ryom, who turned 19 on Friday, already got the nickname "angel of smile" by some South Korean media outlets, after she waved and smiled broadly when she arrived at the Gangneung athletes' village on Thursday evening.
"I feel good," she told reporters in brief comments after training with Kim in the second practice at the venue since their arrival in South Korea.

Snegurochka might just be my new favourite word.

Snegurochka is a delightful Russian story (folk take) of a girl created/adopted by a childless old couple. She eventually melted because she was made from snow. Not sure why they would use her name to create coats, but it is a very nice name and a nice story.
