Can't Help Falling In Love ... with Hubbell & Donohue (fan thread #2)

I’m glad the Americans are providing each other with such fierce competition. I truly believe it has made all three teams even stronger and better than they would have been if one of them was clearly the best in their country. It’s going to be a tough battle for all three. Crazy to think one or even two of the internationally competitive and high-scoring/placing teams will miss out on the team event.

For sure. We've seen this before with the Soviet Union, Russia, Japan (singles), China (pairs), U.S (singles), etc. The best should be able to rise to the top.

I look forward to the videos because I admit to closing my eyes during the twizzles! That was smoking hot. Stupid time deduction yesterday. GRRR
But on a bright note, they won the FD over W/P and that is with both step sequences only level 3 so they still have room to grow. I think Madi and Zach are going to be "moving on up" at Nationals!!

What does this 3rd place do to their hopes of making the GPF?

:swoon: That was so good!

I know I'm biased, but I do think they should have come away with the silver here. However, I won't go into that too much here; at this point, it is what it is. What a strong showing, though - and they weren't even completely clean. Madison and Zach have a different energy this season; confidence just oozes from them on the ice. I love it so much.

Once they do put it all together later this season, I'm going to be a mess.

ETA: I really hope they start getting some sponsorships.

Watch the Olympic Channel version— Agosto was flabbergasted by how good the program was. He said it may be one of the best FD’s he’s ever seen.
I had a similar visceral reaction when I watched this in Hi-def for the first time today. It’s a masterpiece. (And of the US teams, I like the Shibutanis the best, but I have to give credit to this FD for how amazing it is and recognize that H/D are playing to win.)

I actually don’t think the first section is too long. I think it’s just an issue of the music edits— it’s a very weird repeat phrasing for the last part of that first section.... similar to the jarring repeat of a phrase in Kwan’s “East of Eden” short and in P/C’s “Moonlight Sonata” first movement, for example. It’s that repetition to fit time but everyone notices that it sounds off.

They have to be second at NHK, see how everyone else does, and hope to get in on a tie break. This certainly puts them at a disadvantage for qualifying.

It's tough, but doable. The tie break will be total scores and they scored pretty well here. There's a chance that 1 or even 2 teams will make gpf with a silver and a bronze.

It's highly doable BUT they need to be 2nd in NHK (largely doable too) :
if B/S get 2nd place next week they'll go to the GPF. 2 spots to go. It mean C/B are (likely) 3rd. They'll go in France against WeaPo. If WeaPo are 2nd, they'll go to the GPF. If H/D manages to get 2nd in NHK, they'll go in that case. However if WeaPo is 3rd in France and C/B second, tie-breaker. AND if C/B is 2nd in both CoC and France, 2 tie breakers (with B/S and WeaPo). That's why the points actually matter this year.

Don't forget Cappellini & Lanotte who can definitely play spoiler. They should have no problem being second at Skate America which would give them either a silver+silver or silver+bronze depending on how they do at NHK.

I give up : too many scenarios :wall:

If C/B are second in both in China and France, that would mean that B/S and W/P got third in the respective events, which in turn would mean no tie breaker with C/B anymore - only amongst themselves ;). Or was that actually what you meant? Anyway, I agree that the math is pretty complicated this season when it comes to ice dancers placements at GP events.

Kind of. I can't actually type every possible outcome haha :D

I think H/D honestly have my favorite choreographed FD of the field so far, and H/D are brilliant in it. Madison especially shines.

When I first saw the FD at the comp. in SLC, I KNEW it would one of the top dances of the season. I had the same feeling when I saw Gabby/Guilliaume's Chopin's Free dance.
