German Skating News 2017/2018

It'd be nice, when Weinzierl and Schott are actually participating in one event. Team Mannheim is going to Nice every year.

I enjoyed Hocke/Blommaert at NHT. I'd like to see them compete against one of the Chinese top pairs.

Why Bock is entered as Junior makes no sense to me but maybe that will change as she is no longer listed for JGP ITA.
Question remains, why no sub is send to JGP ITA?
The german spot seems completely removed.

I saw Scheidt practicing in Oberstdorf in a #teamwende jacket (so I assume, she switched); she did not look that bad. It can't get worse than Isaev's score, or?

And I also am not ok with this season's music choices by Peter Liebers and Nicole Schott who are both doing "Schindler's List". At least she is Polish. But it shows some blindness to history and responsibility as a Getman citizen.
I am sure both chose it because they just like the very emotional music. Which is tasteless, in my opinoon, but I can also understand that they had a different education than me who is around 20 years older.
I hope her education taught her at least, that someone born in essen (germany), lived in germany her entire life and skated for germany is german after all and not polish!

No words needed.

Ok, I should have written Polish background. I like Nicole and I like Peter, but I have had an education in which we learned how big our responsibility to not forget the past is. And so I find it problematic to skate to this music in general and could only half bear Jewish skaters doing it.
And the other part of my post was referring to cultural appropriation. The Aboriginal people were angry about that program mentioned for example.
But I will stop now.

So your interpretation of "Never Forget" is that people should not tell the story of the holocaust unless they are ethnically or religiously Jewish? (Or is it this particular story of the holocaust?) I understand that some people feel this way. But my interpretation would be that the story should be told. That we should all take responsibility for telling the story. To do so in a respectful manner--as respectful as we can--but to make sure that the story is told. To me, it says something good--that someone from a culture with a background of oppression would acknowledge the significance of the past. (Though I would also be very hesitant to assume someone did not have a familial relationship to the holocaust without knowing that directly from the individual). But for example, I would like to see The Diary of Anne Frank performed in school classrooms and theaters, not only religiously-associated schools and theaters. Would you feel this was disrespectful? Or would this somehow be a different scenario to you? And why? I am curious.

Race4Olympics showdown in Minsk :watch:
Fentz vs Liebers vs Streubel
Bock vs Schott vs Weinzierl
Hase/Seegert vs Hocke/Blommaert
Koch/Nüchtern vs Müller/Dieck vs Urban/Steffan

These almost seems like set up by german fed. I absolutely am pro this head to head. Not sure for Schott with 3rd competition in 3 weeks. But apart from that, let the battle begin! :watch:

I guess we'll see more of this in the next challenger stages, if they really want to give everyone three appearances. There are not that many left.

Yes, but this one seems like a total set-up for me!
But I am pleased. Head to head might be the most satisfying way to find peace, when my fav's fail. No dubious scores comparison! I am pleased we have it at least twice (here + nationals) at least.

Please do not talk down Kristina Isaev right now. She was injured (according to my information) and will return and only stronger.

Consider:
- she is still unknown to international judges
- she has a PB of 108 pts
- she's just 16

I don’t talk her down; but her outing (injury or no injury) was really bad. So I don’t understand why Scheidt gets no chance at all?

Rough outing for Hase/Seegert at Finlandia Trophy.
They sit in 8/8 after the SP with 45,67pts.

A shame about the throw; additionally the twist was messy and lots of other little wobbles.
Over all I have to say, I think they have improved a lot. Especially Nolan in his presentation and his skills.
But as Finlandia's judging is pretty harsh, I fear that competition won't bring them close to Korea.
Happy they go head to head in Minsk and at nationals with H/B.

It doesn't seem that they have improved to me. Rather a step back from their SP presentation at worlds. I really fear for the LP, because usually their SP is stronger than the LP. I have not seen the protocols yet to see if judging is really harsh. The component score goes ok with me and I'm assuming they have lost levels and GOE can't be very high, cause no element really deserves it. We have to check if I am right.

I referred especially to pcs, which were kinda low for all besides Stolbova/Klimov and the chinese.

Protocols are in: no pair spin for Hase/ Segert. Their GOE goes ok with me. It wasn't an impressive skate (she seemed not to be there), so PCS are ok too, I guess.

Thomalla/Kunkel improved their SB at JGP POL to a good score of 138,64pts. New PB.
They finished 8th (8/18).

Pretty decent score. Great 3ThF; but still I can't with the sbs jumps. Her axel seems hopeless and there is not even a triple in sight and the 2-2-2 combination is not even landed clean. Seems to easy for him, so he makes mistakes and almost too hard for her so she makes mistakes.
But even with that, they are technically pretty close to the best teams but lack a lot in the pcs department. I hope their team is working on that.
(and I just keep on hoping that somehow in a miracleous way she learns to jump :shuffle:)

Hase/Seegert looked better than last year. Nolan has improved. He is much smoother now. Good music choice.

They lost the spin. Sorry. but if you want to go to the Olympics you have nail all small elements and just focus on big five (2xSBS, 2x Throw, twist). You can hear her talking in the Kiss and Cry. She was frustrated.

New interview with Franz Streubel
http://www.figureskating-online.com/franz-streubel.html

Main parts:
- he has a foot injury, can onl jump 3t, 3s and 2a right now;
- wants to skate in nice, warsaw, zagreb, nationals
- switched to oberstdorf, coached by fajfr
- was bored in berlin, as peter was always overseas and paul not there, lack of motivation
- with succesful season, he might continue, otherwise not.
- sounded like peter and fentz are going to retire after this season
- SP blues, choreo by Pillay, FS 'Queen' , last seasons FS (changed in few parts)

Saw him in Oberstdorf .. he was taking choreo lessons with Frank Dehne .. I put a spell on you .. will we see that in Minsk?

Thanks Jeschke for being on top of everything. This will make things easier for all of us throughout the season!!! :-P

Actually liked Fentze’s FP a lot and I think his skating skills improved but boy he has no cardio... he struggles at the end so bad and that was not the first time seeing him like this. Good for him getting the points right away while still leaving lots of points due to technical errors. This won’t be as easy for Liebers as we maybe expected.
Hase/Seegert: ugh. I hope they’ll get everything together but they need to be very clean in the next competitions... if not I don’t see a chance for them. Getting close to those 180 p from Hocke/Blommaert will be anyways very hard. Liked the SP though, not much the FP. Hope they will work hard for the next events.
Urban/Steffan: SD didn’t make me feel anything. He’s so unemotional and just weak looking. I think they use at the beginning same music as Lorenz/Polizoakis do for their Rhumba. FD, I liked the program actually. It had cute moments and I liked the concept but compared to the other German teams... I don’t think their material can keep up with them...

Lutricia Bock just had her comeback in the junior ladies SP in Nice: 44,05pts (23,45/21,60)

3f2t
Illusion spin, still suicidal
2a 3turn
3lz< fall

Bock has grown up; I was kinda distracted by the make-up and the dyed hair.

Her skating looks not bad, not much improved either :shuffle: More mature. I really want her to battle Dastich for junior worlds. I prefer her much.

Striegler was with her; is Steuer still her co-coach? The knc's were almost legendary :D

Ouch. Awful scoring :eek::scream:

Good to see Bock back, let the olympic race begin in Minsk :watch:

Bock and Dastich could both go to junior worlds, because Germany has got two spots to fill. Good, that Bock is back! She is the one next to Dastich I would prefer at jw. Our field of junior ladies is quite empty and if Bock gets in better shape during season (and I'm sure she will) there will be someone next to Dastich.
