German Skating News 2017/2018

Catalin Dimitrescu is among the entries of Crystal Skate representing Romania.
No big surprise here.

Tickets for nationals cost 45€ friday and saturday combined (excl. gala) :shuffle:
Not sure if that is the right way to get some audience.

Would be interesting now to know, if Fentz (and Bock) are seriously not allowed to do another challenger instead of their intended one, where they were not able to compete.
This was mentioned by someone in the previous thread. I guess we will find out, sooner or later, not many challengers left to chose.

Hopefully overall scores aren't taken into consideration from two different events--Skate Canada/CS Minsk--but only the TES marks as seems a bit more "fair" but we all know, fairness tends to get thrown out during an Olympic season, when there is no clear cut favorite.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Paul skate in person in 2 weeks as I have liked what I've seen on various streams over the past year.

Overall scores from differente competitions are taken into consideration.
#dramainthemaking :drama:
CS Minsk seemed like a head-to-head set by german fed in all disciplines, now Fentz will have SC the same weekend.

Junior updates:
JGP ITA
Schwendinger/Wunderlich SD 49,83pts (8th)
I still have lots of problems with them this season; all looks very rough and laboured.
The costumes are a nightmare, both for him and her.
They were totally pissed with the scores; seems like they are kinda helpless about this season start and expected way better.

Kai Jagoda SP 39,88 (23rd)
Not much to say here. His face in the knc says it all :yikes:

Cup of Nice:
Jonathan Hess (SP, FS): 153,52pts (6th)
Isaak Droysen (SP, FS): 140,07pts (8th)
Both scored way below their JGP scores; Hess triple axle looks promising, he needs a bit more polish though.
Droysen has better skills, but lacks the jumps.

(Ladies comeptition still going on)
Franziska Kettll (SP, FS): 102,21pts (most likely 19th)
Drama knc, so many tears, so much drama :drama::watch:

Lutricia Bock (FS): 120,88pts
Of course Bock's 'La La Land' dress is yellow pink! :glamor:
Not sure if I like the sparkling dress; would like to see something more simple (movie-related)
Skirt has great flow though!

I kinda like the program for her, great speed during the steps; not sure if the 2-5 layout works for her after her injury.
She needs time; I fear Minsk might be too early for her to join the #olympicrace
Yellow dress please! :glamor:

Cup of Nice updates:
Hocke/Blommaert sit in 2nd after the SP (55,86pts); decent skate, 33tech but bad pcs (22pts) compared to nebelhorn (26pcs)

Kreitmeier/Kempf sit in 10th place (39,95pts); they looked not bad at all, unfortunately she fell after a huge triple twist. 24pts tech seems okay for the errors, 16pts pcs is pretty low imho.

Kreitmeier/ Kempf looked not bad at all? There is just one element with a small positive GOE. I could n't see a huge 3Tw. The twist looked <<, although they did n't get even an underrotation, but at least the twist was so bad that she had a fall. Their skating, well...

I still think this was not bad. The twist was really high, that's what I meant. she started rotation way late. so I agree, she almost did not make it round. < call i would have given, but you don't see that call often.
The throw had good distance, the 2ft landing, ok.
I dislike to see mistakes on the sbs, as both were former single skaters.
The lift looked laboured, I agree.
16pcs were way too harsh imho.

Good that we have different opinions in here; would have been boring otherwise ;)

Liebers had a great SP outing in Nice: 78,01pts, 4th
Have to admit I like the program, lots of details. I just wish someone else would skate it. Sorry Peter.
Like that his spins do not as messy as they did before.

I agree. Although it was not bad at all it kind of looks like a skate of a past generation in my book.

Müller/Dieck had a decent SD outing: 56,96pts (6th)
Overall they have improved. It's a shame, that we most likely won't even get 2 spots for next years euros with 3 fine dance teams :drama:

First head to head of Schott and Weinzierl at SP in Nice.
Schott (58,35pts, 3rd)
Weinzierl (49,86pts, 9th)

Best program Schott has had so far, suits her perfectly! Little mistake, hope she can skate like that next week at Grand Prix. For me, this is a different class to the rest of the german ladies.

Weinzierl had a rough day, I am still amazed, how high she scores (TES) even with mistakes. Better it happened here for her that at challenger. I still can't with that program, sorry.

With the JGP's being over, here is #race4jrworlds so far:
Men:
166,55 Jonathan Hess (JGP AUT)
160,01 Isaak Droysen (JGP LAT)
137,92 Dennis Gurdzhi (JGP POL)
118,73 Kai Jagoda (JGP ITA)

Ladies:
146,55 Lea Johanna Dastich (JGP CRO)
128,02 Ann-Christin Marold (JGP POL)
120,88 Lutricia Bock (Cup of Nice)
102,12 Franziska Kettl (Cup of Nice)
88,24 Kristina Isaev (JGP LAT)

Pairs:
138,64 Talisa Thomalla / Robert Kunkel (JGP POL)

Ice Dance
109,50 Ria Schwendinger / Valentin Wunderlich (JGP CRO)
102,28 Charise Matthaei / Maximilian Pfisterer (JGP LAT)
101,41 Sabrina Bittner / Andrej Lebed (JGP POL)
82,48 Lara Luft / Asaf Kazimov (JGP AUT)

Liebers FS at Cup of Nice: 145,43pts.
Overall 223,44pts, 3rd.
Points do not count to meet the criteria.
I think PCS sat pretty lose here.
It's still Fentz' spot to lose imho.

Liebers BV is just too low.

The 4T looked very unpromising. He needs all his power to make the first planned 3A count. I do not know how he wants to fix those problems till the end of the year.

Weinzierl withdrew from Nice FS.
Anyone knows why?

Am I wrong or is she withdrewing last second or mid-competition a bit too often? :shuffle:

A bit lowballed on PCS for my taste.
FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvx47hHUrzM

Flips looked good in the warm-up. This was okay as a season-opener, I hope she can build on that and gain momentum at GP next week :drama:

I have to say I love her SP... not a huge fan of her FP. It’s not very memorable. Also it’s all predictable. I knew when she’d do her spirals etc... but in general she does her thing and that’s good.

The scores were strange in Nice. Some got really high scores and some really low. M/D skated pretty much clean but got only a total of 136 p...

Hocke Blommaert break 170 for the 2nd competition ...they appear to be in the driver's seat for the 2nd Olympic spot.
Kudos for delivering a second strong competition in her debut season as a pair girl.
Agree! She took a hard fall on the 3ThS :yikes: But overall, they seem calm and good together as a pair. I just wish, she would not smile this entire R&J-routine. Someone has to tell her, this is not only a harmonic lovestory please!

I still miss Mari very much and it might take some time until I can make my peace with this pair, but they have come far in one year :respec:

Kreitmeier/Kempf were, a disappointmend in the FS. As expected very laboured on the lifts. What I dislike is going for an intentional sbs 2f2t combo. These are too single skaters wanting to do pairs. The least what you could expect is a triple or a 2a.

Surprise, surprise, german fed has published an intermediate result of the olympic race:
https://www.eislauf-union.de/files/users/bettgenhaeuser/Protokoll-OWS-Quali.pdf

I like to see that lots of the skaters are going in direct head-to-head, so the end result is hopefully fair.

I am confused though, as all results not meeting the criteria are not listed in the summary at the end

Still funny though publishing that before publishing any criteria

Side note: Bock has still 3 challengers to go (despite her withdrawal from Nebelhorn), so I hape Fentz, if he likes to, gets another challenger, too.
