Shibutanis thread 3: Evolution

I think we should start another Shibs thread. Any title suggestions?

Bringing PARADISE to Pyeongchang

Perhaps we should wait on a thread title until we have seen the programs or received a bit more official confirmation about them? I know it's looking like that won't be until Russia--only the young dance teams are listed on the sub list for Nepela--but we don't actually have an official music announcement or an updated bio page yet.

When I watched the picture I thought that Maia was wearing pants just because they were in their training clothes, I know those are not their official costumes, but I guess if they need the feedback, the costume is important, so I guess that she will be wearing pants for the SD?, that would be fabulous!.

I'm confused. The pic I see is Cain and LeDuc. ??
Never mind. i saw the one of the Shibs. Looks like fun. That doesnt look like a costume to me but what do I know?

Pants were allowed in the hip hop SDs last season as an exception because obviously ISU thought some of the ladies from teams who were doing hip hop would want to wear pants, but, as far as I know, the no pants for ice dance ladies rule is back this season.

Me too! Can anyone post the photo of the Shibs referred to in this thread or the link? Thanks!

Nepela entries were published and Maia and Alex are not in the list. Could they be added later? or this is the definitive list?

Doubt they will be there. Even if it's just a preliminary list, Alex and Maia's names would be there if they planned on doing it. Looks like no Senior Bs this season.

omg, but everyone will be competing before GP :(, B/S, S/B, V/M, H/D, H/B, W/P, P/C (that French competition but still), I don´t know about C/B.

I thought that doing a Senior B wasn't the Shibs style? In any case, they've been in this game for a very long time, and know what works for them.

They did Finlandia in 2011-12, Nepela and Ice Challenge in 2014-15 and Nepela in 2015-16. Nepela 2015 was crucial for modify their program Fix you, every team arranges their choreo, music and elements competition after competition, this season they won´t have 4cc either. Of course if they decide not to participate in B competitions, surely it was not a decision taken lightly, but I would have preferred them to participate (like strategy), plus I can not wait to see their programs .

The entries for Autumn Classic, Nebelhorn and Finlandia aren't out yet, so I don't think it's a forgone conclusion they aren't doing any senior Bs.

For Autumn Classic we only know the Canadian entries, unless I missed something?

Anyone notice on Maia's IG that Beauty is Boring is at Champs Camp helping skaters with their make up and styling? Gee...I wonder how USFS got wind of that make up artist... ;)

Nice to see the Shibs doing their part for the TEAM USA cause, like always.
Man, with pictures like these highlighting how gorgeous Maia is, it's even more of a shame she was Photoshopped into looking about 12 on the most recent USFS magazine.

But being Nepela earlier than Nebelhorn and Finladia, I thought it would be more logical to compete in Nepela and have more time to make corrections before Rostelecom, I don´t know about Autumn Classic, actually it would be interesting considering that they would be competing against the Canadians, but being the competition in Canada, they are in disadvantage, if they lost to W/P, they would be going to Russia in a different status.

The top three U.S. Dance teams (and most of the U.S. Olympic hopefuls in other disciplines & various sports) are all signed up to attend a big press conference in the U.S. right before Nebelhorn. Per Sylvia's earlier post, it's unlikely they will be able to attend the competition also. Finlandia is possible, but less likely for a team that is scheduled at Rostelecom. And only the young teams are on the sub lists for Nepela and U.S. Classic. Autumn Classic is a possibility. (It would be a good place for tough competition, non pro-U.S. feedback, and a team that would prefer to stay close to home prior to traveling to Russia for Rostelecom). But it does seem less likely with neither of the top two U.S. teams on a sublist yet.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the press conference before Nebelhorn. Too much stuff to track/remember. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility they do Finlandia. They could simply just stay in Europe and maybe touch base with Lambiel or something.

Even if they don't do a senior B -- there's a huge gap between Rostelecom and Skate America, so plenty of time to make adjustments.

Marina travels during the GP season. She may be with Patrick at SC & NHK and with Gracie for Cup of China & France. The Shibs will have lots of time between assignments, but it would be nice if they could work on their programs with their coach, which seems more feasible prior to the GP.

it will affect them in the skating order? :(

Yes. They are less than 200 points ahead of Bobrova & Soloviev, who are skating against a weak field at Nepela. I'd expect B&S to win, which is 300 points. The Shibs are also less than 200 points ahead of Cappellini & Lanotte, who are also easily favored to win at Lombardia. The Shibs will go up against B&S at Rostelecom and C&L at Skate America. (And the random start orders have been scrapped for this season).

I would like to see a couple Senior B comps from the Shibs, but I trust their judgement re their preseason preparation, training and readiness for the Oly season. They give the ice dance community suspense and mystery which could be part of their master plan.

I really hope this is the reason :).
It is official, they are not in Nebelhorn entries.
