Few video interviews from test skates:
Anastasia Gubanova
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggAWv4J7tZE
Anastasia Tarakanova
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fws88Cbgi4g
Sofia Samodurova
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiFt7HRp5ss
Stanislava Konstantinova
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M5z2PRkTK4
Alisa Fedichkina
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2xFMAKXb00

Some notes from fso user, who visited Novogorsk yesterday (she missed Samodurova and Nugumanova)
- Konstantinova was great, few little mistakes but clean overall. Mature skating and good SS in comparison with others
- Trusova tried 4S but fell on it. Landed all other triples in the second half including 3Lo3T and 3Lz3T
- Viktoria Vasilieva and Daría Panenkova kept their Long Programs
- Anastasia Gubanova was clean
- Tarakanova didn't show her best
- That user liked Gulyakova - very solid jumps

About Junir Men:
- Semenenko and Gumennik with last year's LPs
- Gumennik landed one 3A (according to Nugumanova's ask.fm)
- Danielyan and Rukhin also landed 3A, Kovalev tried but fell.
- Erokhov did 2 quads

Kolyada also skated his new LP. He didn't try quads but landed 2 gorgeous 3A and all other jumps. The program itself isn't bad :)

There was some gossip on the Russian forum saying that Atakhanova had tryouts with Mirzoev. No one seems to know whether succesful or not, but from the fact that she then went to watch tests skates and he stayed in St Petersburg it seems that it probably wasn't succesful. So he probably returned to Gubina?

Who is Gubina?

Do you mean his former partner Mishina? She has found a new partner quite some time ago by now. That ship has definitely sailed.

No, I don't mean Mishina. Gubina is his new partner, but she is pairs beginner and she is quite younger, so they would have one year of juniors, then he will age out from juniors and she won't be seniors eligible yet -that year they would be only able to do Russians competitions until she is age eligible for seniors. Saying that, if the rumours are true and he had a tryout with Amina, it is possible that he is not hundred percent committed to his partnership with Gubina and wouldn't mind upgrading if the opportunity arose.

So sad for Borisova -- even though her and Sopot's side by side jumps were always a white knuckle ride (to say the least), I'll always remember their Lawrence of Arabia FS fondly (I really thought they had SO much potential --- darn injuries...)

I don't think she retired though. I won't believe it until she confirms it. She is on icepartnersearch, and she wouldn't put herself there if she wanted to retire. I think the article said that she retired so that people don't feel bad about the pair splitting up, i.e. not Sopot's fault that he wanted to skate with Poluyanova if Borisova wanted to retire, but the truth may be different.

It's sad to see the end of Borisova/Sopot. Yes, as said previously, the jumps were not the best but their other elements were so good. Sky high triple twist, great throws and strong lifts. They skated brilliantly to win the 2015 JGPF. My favourite skate of theirs was the ninja short but I also like Lawrence of Arabia and the Scorpions free skates.

It will be interesting to see how P/S progress. I not sure she is the strongest jumper either. Becoming a fan of a junior pair is tough, you don't know what is going to happen long term.

No Ustimkina/Volodin. Apparently she had some health problems.
And no Gubina/Mirzoev. Probably not ready yet, as she is a pair beginner. Or he may have given up on her already.
And no Kudryavtseva/Spiridonov.

I doubt it, it will be open only for press, so I guess we will have only some news about programs and plans for the season
Doesn't press own a camera? Or haven't they figured out how to download on YouTube? What sort of press is going there?

Ekaterina (Katia) Borisova definitely was looking for a new partner. She went to St. Petersburg for example. It is a shame if she is gone from the sport. She has spark and the pair elements were strong. However, without sbs triples there is no future for her in pairs, unfortunately. I don't know if she will get them. She also was very sick last year and potential coaches and partners might shy away from working with her fearing fragile health. On the other hand, sometimes the coaches in Russia seem a bit quick in writing someone off, just because there are so many skaters to choose from. Just look at Liubov Iliushechkina, who now successful continues her career in Canada.

ETA: The article does say that Katia after a while decided to retire and to study and skate in shows and since this is the official website of the Federation I think they would know what their athlete is doing (if she still receives funding for example). But again, Iliuschechkina came back out of retirement. So you never know what is going to happen. Katia is still very young.

Article on Dmitri Aliev at Golden Skate. He talks about his preparation for the season, his coaches talk about his development as a skater and as a person:

http://www.goldenskate.com/2017/08/dmitri-aliev/

So Aliev is doing classical music for the short and a free similar to his previous program. Even though this sounds pretty conventional, I'm confident he will put his unique stamp on both and embed specific stories into the choreography. I wish interviewers would dig deeper and force him to spell the beans: What exactly is the story behind your program?

At this time of the year some skaters are reluctant to reveal too much about their programs, what music they have, what the story is. They will answer these questions later when they show their programs. :)

The first event of St Petersburg Cup will be on August, 21-25, but it will be closed to the public this year :blah:
In last years most St Pete's skaters (Mishin's, Moskvina's and Rukavitsin's skaters) started their season with this event
A closed competition? What are the reasons? What secrets want to they conceal?
