Scandinavian skater's news thread

Such a bum deal for them, because if training conditions and skating as a whole was better funded in Denmark, they wouldn't have HAD to move in the FIRST place..You would hope that would have been considered more...but they are still relatively young..hopefully 2022 can still be an option (but as long as this residency thing hangs over them like a black cloud, one wonders...)

I really love F-B/S... I hope they will keep skating. With some retirements after the Olympics I could see them rising in the standings.

Sad news from Norway:( Anne Line and Camilla Gjersems father died unexpectedly, he drowned while on holiday. It's been on the girls' Instagram since last week, but I didn't want to share as I thought it a private matter. Today though, it hit the Norwegian main news. Article in Norwegian:
http://www.vg.no/sport/kunstloep/kunstloeptvillingene-i-sorg-etter-farens-braa-doed/a/24107793/

Anne Line says: "It's been very difficult and we're very affected right now. Right afterwards I thought "What do I do now?" But of course I will continue skating. I don't want to loose both my father and my passion. He wouldn't want that either."

Camilla says the same thing. Their father supported the girls' careers a lot, also financially, and they are both a bit uncertain what the future will be like. I'm reading in between the lines that finances now could be a problem.

Quote:
"I want to continue skating if it's possible. First, there's a lot of things that must be taken care of, but we will do everything to be able to skate. Dad always did everything for us, so we could reach our dreams and goals."

This is just terribly sad:(:( I was with Camilla at summer camp just a few weeks ago, and she and Anne Line are the sweetest girls. I really, really hope it works out for them.

That is very sad news for Camilla & Anne Line.

I hope that they will be able to continue with their skating careers, maybe with the help of some sort of fundraising in the future.

More skating related, Anne Line Gjersem says in the same interview as above that she is moving most of her jumps to the second half of her program in the FS. She's doing six triple in total. She and Camilla has been in Oberstorf for three weeks, with Michael Huth. Four practices a day, and off ice. At the end of the camp she felt some pain on the back of her tighs, so she reduced the amount of traing. No more injuries please!!!!
She's also the Norwegian lady being sent to Nebelhorn, and will probably compete at Lombardia trophy before that.

Sondre Oddvoll Bøe is skating one of his programs to "Silent storm" sung by Norwegian artist Carl Espen. AND it's in fact the Norwegian Eurovision entry from 2014:D:D Not sure if it's his SP or FS.

Landscape farmers [:D] who do not participate in the camp:
Selma Ihr - competes in JGP in Brisbane, AUS
Junior couple Greta Crafoord and John Crafoord - train in the USA for upcoming JGP first in Riga, Latvia and Gdansk, Poland.
------

Greta and John Crafoord are twins (born Dec. 28, 2000) who train in Aliso Viejo, California, coached by Todd Sand and Jenni Meno. They won the Novice Pairs bronze medal at 2017 U.S. Nationals and skated an exhibition at Swedish Nationals last December (I assume they hold dual citizenship).

Thank you @Sylvia! I just posted this in the Team Trainwreck-thread: (Unfortunately I don't have time to translate the whole interview).

Joshi updated her blog. She writes about going home to Sweden, she wants to have her base in Tibro, since most of her competitions are in Europe this year. She's going back to Canada for a short period in October to train.

About the year with Orser, she says it was good in every way; she learned a lot, both on and off the ice, had a really good time with all the people she trained and lived with, and even if her results wasn't what she wanted, she showed good shape in practice all year and takes that with her into the new season.

Next week the Swedish national team get together for the first time this season (as Sylvia also already posted about), and everyone is showing off their programs.

Joshi also points out that her training conditions in Tibro has improved and her club is taking that very seriously.

Any word how the Swedish Fed decides about the olympic qualifier spot in ladies?
And about the olympic spot (assuming one is secured)?

^^ They have an "Elite committee" that I think is responsible for selections, not sure if they have any published criteria (I'm neither Swedish nor knowlegdeable with their system, so more enlightened answers to @Jeschke's q would be appreciated!)

@Jeschke I don't know, I just have a feeling the Swedish federation will send Joshi to Nebelhorn. In her latest blog post she says: "This year I have all my competitions in Europe, not very far apart in time, sometimes there's just two weeks in between".

AHA, but now I found an article in the local mid-Sweden newspaper, Skaraborgs allahanda:
http://sla.se/sport/2017/08/17/os-drommen-lever-vidare-for-joshi

"The Olympic dream is still alive for Joshi"

The Olympic dream lives on for Joshi Helgesson, 24 years old from Tibro, who's now back in Sweden again to re-charge. Her aim is already fine tuned for Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstorf, Germany in the end of September, where she could possibly get Sweden an Olympic spot for South Korea.
- I'm fully focused towards that competition. In Oberstorf I will be in my best possible shape.

...then bla bla about her leaving Kanada for Sweden, as read earlier....then:

- My full focus is on the competition in Germany and now it's hard work and nothing else that matters. I'm in much better shape now than I usually am at this time of year so it feels really good. I'm doing my programs almost without mistakes all the time so it feels great. Now there's a National Team camp next week and we'll see what the judges says about the programs. It'll be good to get that feedback before the season starts.

- I've been training all summer to try to be in my best possible shape for this competition. It's very early for us to be in top shape in September, but I've done my best to manage. I've competed in Oberstorf quite a few times and also been to camp there. It's a place where I feel comfortable, that's a good thing.

Before Nebelhorn the girl from Tibro is preparing by competing at Lombardia Trophy in Bergamo, Italy, September 14-17.

New programs
Joshi has spend most of her summer in Canada, but has been practicing in Tibro lately.

- I've spent most of my summer in Toronto. I've had both my programs made there. I've been practicing hard to be in the best possible shape. There's two brand new programs, but the content, the jumps and the spins are mostly the same as last year.

....So....that means 3t2t...???:EVILLE:

If only we could somehow transplant (13 year old) Selma Ihr's 3toe-3toe to Joshi in time for Nebelhorn, I'd be more assured of her chances, but alas...

Thanks for posting the links! I like Majorov but his music this year is definitely not to my taste. I'm too old and conservative for that kind of noice, LOL. :)

You all beat me to this. I was totally impressed by Selma at the Brisbane JGP. I was hoping she would climb a little more in the final standings. That triple-triple was impressive and she really sold the program.

Yes Selma is gold mine for Sweden. Great future

I saw the videos from the Swedish camp and I have to say I really like Majorovs SP. It shows a new side of him, love the dance step seq.

Joshi also changes style into a more soft one. I think it might turn out great, wonder of big sister Vicky was involved in the chores

Yesterday Anne Line and Camilla were on our breakfast show, talking about the time after their father's death and how they will manage to continue skating. Their father supported them a lot financially, and now it's difficult for them with finances, so they are seeking all kinds of opportunities to raise money for their skating. They're already doing weekend seminars for young skaters and they started an online store in cooperation with Explendo (several Norwegian athletes from smaller sports have one). For now, it's only possible to buy when in Norway, but here's the link:
https://www.explendo.no/kunstløptvillingene

I'm buying the wash balls for starters:D

I asked Camilla if they had considered a GoFundMe page and she said it sounded interesting and they will look into it.

It was a very touching interview, as both girls were clearly taken by the loss of their father. But they're back in training, Anne Line is preparing for Nebelhorn, including going to Lombardia trophy. Camilla is starting her season competing in Stavanger around the same time.

Aw, heartbreaking. :( I hope they do consider starting a GoFundMe page! It certainly cannot hurt, and every little bit helps. Strong girls!! :respec: :respec:
