Impossible. IMO a top 5 finish will be a good achievement for them.

It's possible They will face great attacks like k/s did when they didn't medal in Vancouver. It will be very ugly for them! Unless as it seems is possible no one in Russia cares about dance anymore. Pairs in 2010 still cared about and helped creation of v/t.

Anna Karenina is Medvedeva's exhibition program that she debuted at the "Dreams on Ice" shows in Japan: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...iest-way-is-not-necessarily-the-right.101493/
As for the new exhibition - it's to the music from the movie `Anna Karenina' and I'll skate it in the show in Yokohama. It's not the final version though. We'll be working and improving the exhibition through the season.
ETA: Maria Sotskova skated an exhibition to "Kalinka" at Dreams on Ice.

Is this Averbukh's work? I'm not too impressed.

Zhenya sohould skate to Madama Butterfly. She looks lovely in a Japanese costume, but then she might be competing against my memory of Mao's beautiful skate at the 2016 worlds.

The olympics are in Korea..... Their "memory of Japan" is not Mao's skate...;)

Janny just needs to skate that Sailor Moon exhibition, like, forever.

And apparently everyone's Madame Buttefly gold standard is Asada. How quickly y'all forget Tonia Kwiatkowski. :p

Impossible? Are you serious? They were only 1.45 points away from the bronze at worlds, it's very likely they can get a bronze at the Olympics, it's really up for grabs at this point.

I doubt anyone will care if B/S get a medal or not, but I don't think dance is dead. At least I hope not :fragile:

K/S were under immense pressure to bring home home gold for some reason even though they had only been a pair for 3.5 years. No pair in the history of skating would've been expected to perform at such a level, and to get 4th place even with the mistakes they made was quite and achievement and better than M/T who had been together longer. Most skaters would've killed for that placement. They really faced the greatest attack from themselves, as they always do.

Yes, I am serious. No disrespect to B&S. I have always wanted them to do well, and was heart broken for them when they missed worlds in 2016.

Realistically, the first two medals are locked. Theoretically the bronze is up for grab, but is it really? In ice dance 1.45 points difference is big. This is not pairs, where big elements can make a big difference. B&S's competition will be- 1) Shibs who won the silver and bronze the last two years, 2) Chock & Bates who already have a world silver and a bronze, 3) next in line - number 2 Canadians, who were expected to become gold contenders (but have fallen off the radar), 4) European champions C&L (they are beatable), 5) number 3 US team H&D (politically weak, as most number 3's are).

I don't count out K&S because they could improve and challenge B&S within Russia (though I hope B&S win the RN).

That's a lot of competition. I think if one of the teams at 3 or 4 or 5 makes mistakes, B&S may sneak in for number 4. As Russia!s number one, their chances for 5 or 6 are much better, realistically speaking. In ice dance there are fewer surprises than in the other 3 disciplines.

I guess you are saying ice dance won't be dead because no one cares about b/s or how they do. But being 7 time Russian champions and on a national level the most successful Russian ice Dance team of all time If no one cares about them winning Olympics ice dance is totally dead in Russia. Maybe if a beloved team didn't medal it would be more damaging? If there is one now?

So maybe k/s were new and exciting to some people and they were world bronze medalists.

If B/S would've performed as well in the TES portion of the short program at worlds (36.68) as they did at Euros (39.32), that would've been enough to get the bronze. Realistically, yes, the the first two medals are probably locked, but to say the bronze is impossible for B/S to win is ridiculous. Improbable given injuries? Maybe, but impossible?

5) number 3 US team H&D (politically weak, as most number 3's are).

I like the fact that H&D have managed to basically skate one clean, mistake free international competition over the course of their entire careers, (2016 worlds), but in this analysis they are only "politically" weak.

If they were from Russia, the would be getting sh*t on left and right for their own competitive track record.

The truth is, bronze is a 5-7 way race that could turn out almost any way, and a 5th place finish would be respectable for any team that isn't P&C and V&M.

Ok. Let me just say highly improbable. There is no such a thing as Impossible in sports, even in ice dance.

This is true. Any of the Shibs, C/B, H/D, W/P, C/L or B/S could win bronze and I wouldn't be shocked, though of course I have my preferences and they don't all have an equal likelihood of medalling. And the Shibs would probably be disappointed with 5th, since they've been the team behind P/C for ~1.5 seasons.

I agree fifth for shibs would probably be devastating for them and a huge disappointment. B/S as Russia number one and representating Russian history and success in ice dance would may be horrible for them. First Olympics of Russian number one not medaling. No matter what tarasova is saying how about them deserving fifth or lower.
