Love, Balls and Courting: Tennis V

Roger having an awesome year- winning Miami - and beating Rafa in the final - again. :cheer2::respec:

It helps and hurts Nole; keeps Nadal from closing in on the Masters 1000 record! With Roger taking the 1st 3 biggest events of the season, he'll legitimately be thinking YEC #1! :wall:  :yikes:

If this season really is Roger's big comeback, does anybody think that he will retire at the end of the season?

Nope! He has already committed to playing tournaments next year I believe.

This has been awesome so far this year. I hope he can continue to play like this and keep his body healthy! Glad he isn't playing any tournaments leading up to the French. Focus on Wimbledon.

It's true, even though she took down her posted pic. Wow, Serena won the Australian Open while in the early stages of pregnancy! She's getting lots of kudos and congrats on social media. When was her wedding planned, or did she reveal the date yet? She may have not realized she was pregnant until sometime after winning the Australian Open.

I love some of the tweets about her winning a Grand Slam while pregnant! LOL Like these:

"Serena won a grand slam while pregnant. So every man should shut up about everything forever!"
OR
"Serena won a grand slam while pregnant and I can't even return to a desk job after eating a burrito!"

Congrats to Serena and Alexis :cheer2:

It will be interesting to see if she can return next year - I'm sure she would like to beat the Margaret Court record but I feel that once she beat Steffi's total she really had nothing more to prove. There is no way in hell that any of the current batch of players can come anywhere close to beating that target. She is undoubtedly the GOAT of the Open era and not many can argue that she isn't the GOAT of all eras. I for one think she is the GOAT.

Really, Serena has nothing left to prove - but I'd love to see her back! If she doesn't I feel lucky I got to see her play at the US Open. Congrats to her & her fiance.

There was a nice article on Vika in the NYTimes:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/25/...ka-return-pregnancy-serena-williams.html?_r=0

Her mom was battling breast cancer last year - thankfully she is now cancer free. She seems happy and at peace. I hope to see her and Serena back, with babies in tow.

Williams and Azarenka are friends, and Williams visited Azarenka’s home in Manhattan Beach, Calif., in early February.

“I know that Serena was asking me a lot of questions about babies when she came by my house, and I didn’t really make anything of that,” Azarenka said, laughing. “I knew it was going to be in her life at some point. I didn’t know it was happening now.”

If anyone's following Stuttgart Open with Sharapova's return:

- Did anyone see (3-4 hrs ago) a tweet from Le Pen that if she is elected, she "will make sure that Sharapova is permanently banned from entering Roland Garros"? I clearly saw that tweet on Google for about 10-12 minutes, but then it was not there, even in "history of tweets" for that hour.

Late to the party (though I had seen the happy baby news):

Congratulations Serena and Alexis!

Maria Sharapova is returning to tennis this week, playing in the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgatt, Germany. She was banned for 15 months for getting caught with meldonium.

But Genie Bouchard is causing a ruckus by saying that the WTA should have banned Sharapova for life: Full Bouchard interview.

:watch:

Sharapova took meldonium to help her play better, period.
I don't buy her official explanation because it was so rampant amongst Russian athletes.
However Bouchard is not right IMO about her opinion.
The drug was misunderstood or wrongly sanctioned.
However it was used to benefit the athletes that used it and not for the reasons the drug was developed.
Bouchard is a brat and needs to focus more on her game.
But I understand her opinion even if I don't agree with it.
Personally I didn't miss Sharapova's annoying grunts.

My first thoughts were: What does it matter to her if Sharapova is back? Bouchard doesn't have a chance against Kerber or Pliskova, anyway.

I think she's beat Kerber before but not sure.
But I can understand her point of view even if I find her frustrating.
