It hasn't been called CSA for a long time. Which makes me wonder, what part of Ottawa do you hail from?

I don't think it's ever been called the Canadian Skating Association. Unless there is some sekret konspiracy shadow association that is so corrupt that no one knows about it.

Me too, especially because the video of practices did not look so different. But this could not happen in a better moment, just one competition before worlds. I always got frustrated seeing them peak at nationals in previous seasons, better strategy this year, skaters neglecting 4cc should take note. And now we know why the nationals vlog took so long to be uploaded, they were getting ready and super focused for this competition, in fact Alex said it at instagram or facebook live but I did not take it so seriously.

I just watched the Shibs, and their free dance was amazing here. They really upped the drama and, like, whippiness of their movement at the end. It was just a beautiful and mesmerizing performance. I hope they skate it as well at Worlds.

When Alex tweeted that they had a breakthrough last month, I didn't think he actually meant it. I think if they continue to skate like they did in that FD for both the SD and FD at Worlds, it'll be hard to deny them. They may not win Worlds, since it seems preordained that Virtue/Moir will win though I have a sliver of hope Alex and Maia continue proving supposed smart detractors and skeptics wrong as they've been doing that their entire career, but I think a performance that generates this sort of excitement and crowd reaction will definitely boost them up further towards Pyeongchang.

If they keep improving like they did between nationals and 4CC and can perform the SD & FD like they performed the FD here i could see them beating P/C at worlds.

I'm just trying to be realistic and keep in mind of the scores and perception of skill and talent people have of the ice dance teams.

Marina is politicking away. I wonder if there could be a surprise in store at Worlds, further changes to the free dance perhaps.
Maia and Alex became closer (in scores) to Tessa and Scott, the fight is serious, but they are different, they will still win, just wait. All skate the same: the same expression, the same style, the same genre, with the same message. I’m talking about all the pairs, including mine, but these (Shibutani) are different from the rest. They are different and the method of work with them is different. We will continue to work this way. And, firstly, it’s a strategy. – Zueva told.

That's the most she's said about them in print probably ever as far as I can tell. She must finally think they have a chance now. Marina would know more than anyone if they do,. Even if they win bronze at Worlds, it would not be unprecedented for the reigning world bronze medalist to win the Olympics and Worlds the following year. Marina has personal knowledge about that. ;)

Igor tried to do the same thing last year against P&C and it failed, anyway the composition of the judging panel will be important i think V&M have the russians and east bloc countries behind them in the head to heads the russian judge has favored V&M over P&C, also it should not be overstated the tech specialist at 4cc was american which helped the shibs.

Zoueva should do what she's best at and stay away from "politicking". she does it with no class. the fact that she belittles her own teams shows how trustworthy she is! her attitude is phony, unprofessional, disloyal and quite stupid.

What!!??? Marina praising to Maia and Alex :eek::eek:. I am dreaming?
After Skate America 2014 she also said the Shibs marks were too low and they were a higher quality than what they were given. She's also argued that they continually show a different style of dance in their programs through the years and have demonstrated growth this way. I don't think it's that she doesn't have good things to say about them, but rather that the I/K split and Nikita and Vika going to train with her was a big story to the Russian press who is more interested in figure skating than the US press. She probably doesn't get asked about them enough. Just think about that FD mixed zone where the journalists asked her about Nathan instead of the Shibs. American press is partially to blame here, I think.

After all, she owns that OGM, doesn't she? ;)

Many people, including me, underestimate her.

I expressed it wrong. Yes, sometimes she has praised them, but not like this, definitely not like she has done before for V/M, D/W, Nathan and Nikita and Victoria. Maybe I missed it, but I never heard her to say that the Shibs can to be the best in the world.

All those other teams deserve praise but Nikita and Victoria?

Olympic gold is within reach. OGM is a political game, and while I don't know about Gadbois' abilities in that respect, everyone knows Marina is a power player. The story of who is favored to win can change in an instant.

So, if V/M or P/C win the gold in Korea I would assume that they won because Gadbois made a good political game?

Politics are never enough on their own. The teams have to be good enough to be politicked. The Shibs have that now IMO. I truly believe their FD performance at 4CC has turned the tide for them. A team doesn't get 115+ for no reason. I think even they, Marina, Massimo, and the judges were surprised at how good they were there.

of course, I just find funny how people don´t think that Maia and Alex can win Worlds, let alone the olympics but just in case, some people are kind enough to make us clear that if they win it would be for politics.

That's because some can't even fathom Alex and Maia being as successful as they are. Ever since Worlds 2011. I find skating fans who hang on to past results as the only indicator are very closed minded about gauging future potential.

i dont see a surprise at worlds they get bronze behind V&M and P&C.
I really haven't wanted to say it (because I'm weirdly superstituous for some of my teams/skaters, but I think it constantly). Sure, VM will most likely get gold. But the battle is for silver. Both P/C and S/S's free dances are getting stronger, but the Shibutani's currently have the edge on the short in terms of execution. P/C have always made tiny little mistakes that unfortunately they weren't correctly judged on - that's happening now (probably somewhat out of the blue for them, which is incredibly frustrating for the team and the fans, but I digress...) Anything can happen!
