Yuri!!! On Ice

I just started watching this show. I'm on episode 3. Do we know when new episodes premiere aka get posted online? The animation is truly beautiful on this show. The skating makes you wish actual skating programs looked more like what it does on the show.

^The new episodes go up on Crunchyroll at about 6am AEDT on Thursdays. I'm not sure what time that is for you. (I always have to hold off til I get home from work. Torture!)

THANK YOU!

Btw, is Yuri's former Italian coach from the Detroit Skating Club based on Pasquale Camerlengo? He has the ponytail and everything.

He might be. Isn't Camerlengo also in Detroit?

I've been a little disappointed with the quality of the skating animation, especially in 5 where it was really off-model. I'm hoping it will get better.

One thing I liked was seeing Russian Yuri was landing a jump and I was like "the animation of that free leg could have been better" and then the Russian choreographer yelled at him for having a sloppy free leg. I like that the show really did its homework with the Grand Prix series and very basically explaining TES and PCS. It helps to have a show about skating where I'm not too distracted by crazy inaccuracies. I lived for when Yuri and Viktor were going over his elements list and they were using the correct abbreviations for the elements. I wonder if there are no levels for footwork and spins in this universe (which I seriously wouldn't mind some times). I also like how the characters comment on the difficulty of the routine, but not about the jumps but simply seeing the footwork and choreography.

I saw someone on twitter who used to skate at the Detroit rink swear blind that was definitely based on Pasquale, so it seems likely!

My favorite thing in the newest episode was that they actually had the Lexus in the arena just like Cup of China. It's the details that get me :D

Wow, that seemed like a really stacked Mens field and Skate America seems like there was upset as the Kazakh skater Otarek Altin placed second when I think he was either a GPF or Worlds medalist last year (or maybe both). I'm surprised that Swiss skater placed fifth in the SP. I was expecting higher but maybe he does that style routine all the time. I think I'm getting into the competition here. ;)

I was so nervous he wouldn't have a perfect performance!
ME TOO, I was yelling at him to land the jumps, but we all know he's going to totally freak out under pressure of being in first, and blow his LP, don't we? He's gonna need that SP cushion to stay in, like, 4th place, so he needs to win Cup of Russia to make the final. #predictions

Ok, the scoring system in this world must be much much more severe on falls and overrotations and hand-downs because I don't know how Yuri lost his 20 point lead over Phichit after the SP after that performance. Maybe he lost levels on his footwork and spins that we don't know about or maybe he Zayaked himself haha. Also, I don't know why one of the skaters (was it Phichit?) planned a triple-single-double combination. A triple-double-double would have been more points if he wasn't planning a triple as the third jump anyway.

So much competition in this episode, I love it. I especially loved that surprise ending.

^No kidding. I was like, no way does Phichit have the BV AND the GOE to overhaul a 20 point SP lead when Yuri landed two quads AND rotated a quad flip, with his only errors a fall on the 4F and a hand down on the 3A...yeah Yuri even has a buffer where he can dump some levels and still take care of that.

And for one itty bitty moment I thought Victor was actually going to kiss him, ha!

It's so funny, all my anime-friends are screaming over the ending, and I'm like: yeah, screaming a bit BUT I WANT TO SEE THE PROTOCOLS!!!! how did yuuri drop that many points, how did phichit make up so many whaaaaaaaaat

I could kill to see Stephane's face whe he watches the swiss guy Chriss doing his signature spin and then failing to control his fluids:eek::rofl:s
I would cheerfully hold them down while you killed them to see this thing, yes.

I've been living in Shanghai's seamy underbelly. I’ve moved on to the point where I now find the nudity hilarious and the unwanted sexual advances comedy. How often does your rival pat your butt and ask for a 3-way?

I’m still waiting for the sensual eating of Pork Cutlet Bowl. Instead, coach gets drunk, strips and throws himself at Yuri in public,:scream:
Victor has no filter, does he? Victor: “Do you want me to be your boyfriend? I’ll do my best!”

Amazing gender-bending, as when Baranovskaya states her intention for Russian Yuri to be a “prima ballerina” (instead of “principle danseur”).

Agree. R-Yuri needs to fix that swinging free leg.

I think we saw a Jason character today, but with a little splash of Josh in him. He was fun. (And no-one can tell me his coach is not Rohene. NO-ONE.)

Rohene sighting at 16:15 in Ep6
Yurio's braid, like Jason's hair in Tristan.
And I assume that Chris’s butt cleavage was modeled on Emanuel Sandhu.

They left out one of the best reasons: leaving aside the Giant Scoring Plothole from episode 7, it's actually reasonably realistic in its portrayal of the sport. Well, it's more realistic than anything else we've had so far, anyway.

Quite realistic: My feed froze on the triple axel.

The crayon drawing depicting the top 6 in the world: 5 have Asian faces. Hehe, yep. #2 I bet is Patrick Chan, based on his powder blue sweater and white shirt collar.

Less realistic:
Butt stroking is the new face-stroking.

Interestingly, there seem to be no other Japanese top-contenders in this world. How did Yuri get assigned to even one GP event, let alone two?

Junior competitors: "Hey, he did a quad! I think I'm gonna try a quad!" "Me, too! I never did one before, but now I’m gonna try one, right now!"

Love:
When Victor pretends the doggy tissue box is barking.
That there is a movie called The King and the Skater -- with a sequel.
Georgi, the skary hilarious tortured skating villain. With the bird broach and go-go boots.
That the subtitles correctly spelled “All right.”
Yuri, the hyper-sexualized 15-year old, drinking from a juice box, muttering “I'll make you into borscht.”
At the press conference after Yuri professes his love for Victor, all Victor says is “We have to burn that necktie.”

Here is an interesting analysis:

It was impossible not to notice that Yuri wrote English "Yuri on Ice" on the CD and that Yuko and many others are receiving English texts.

My predominant thought from episode 8:

*JJ appears on screen and starts speaking*

Me: Hi, Patrick Chan.

I

That's my biggest peeve. We learn at the first episode that Yuri did awful at nationals so he didnt make it to 4CC or Worlds. So there must be a reigning japanese champion and he's nowehere to be seen in the Grand Prix so far (and they did bother to recap the results from SA & SC)

As for Yuri's assignments, he did make the GP final last season , so his scores there should be big enough to guarantee him 2 events this year. I can't remember any skater or team that qualified for the final and didn't get 2 events the next year.
