I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

I think some of you picked up the Gwen Stefani kit from Urban Decay - I just got this one on sale + additional 20% off and I love it! On days when we're not going out I've been having fun with the bolder colours and trying different looks - so far my husband approves :)

Try experimenting with the bolder color as eye liner. Wet your brush(eye liner brush) with water, run it through the shadow and then draw on your liner.

You're asking us? This is the wrong place for abstinence!

So Sephora just notified me I am $93 from VIB Rouge. Since my credit card bill yesterday induced feelings of faintness, they will have to wait a bit to upgrade me to my rightful station in life.

i think i'll give my hair a little love and pass on the sale in order to fund my hairscapades.

So I'll be in Seoul in a few weeks...I'm pretty broke and I don't really go for many high-end beauty products, but is there anything Korean that you can think of that I'd be a fool not to at least look at? I'm in the market for a nice mascara; nothing too expensive but just something new.

I've not had the opportunity to try many Korean beauty products but Tony Moly and Etude House make some super cute products.

The facial sheet masks are supposed to be really good.

Get on youtube and Google Korean Beauty Products to find reviews of products. The should be many there for both high end and drugstore products.

I've watched a few but can't remember many names of stuff.

I'm so jealous....I would love to go to Korea.

Here's an article someone posted upthread about Korean beauty products as a nice intro to a typical skincare regime. Personally, if I was in Korea, I'd skip makeup altogether and focus completely on skincare. There are so many great mascaras readily available in the west, but Asian and specifically Korean beauty is where it's at now, and so much of it is not yet available outside Asia.

I'd check out sources as skategal mentions above, and then cross off anything you can already get wherever you are and focus on the only-in-Korea brands. I'd definitely get some sheet masks and other mask products - they are HUGE in Korea, and we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg so far in the west. And save a little cash for the duty free shops in the airport on the way home - I'm guessing there will be a ton of stuff to choose from, and hopefully a few of the gift packs/sampler kits that brands often feature at duty free.

And please do share your experience and haul with us when you get home!

I should have mentioned that I'm currently living in Taiwan so sheet masks are definitely a huge thing here...I've tried a few different kinds. You look like a mummy when you wear it but they are nice!

I lost my Rouge status too. :(

In some ways being VIB Rouge is tougher - I get emails almost daily of new deals and discounts and previews, so I'm really having to control myself :p

#firstworldproblems

Completely agree :)

Also, I agree try their skin products. I would love LOVE to try korean skin products.

When I was passing through Seoul airport, they had a lot of Very Expensive skincare - brands I have not seen here in the US. However, they were quite pricy, and if I wanted to splurge, I would need to do some research first as to what I would like to try.

For cheaper stuff, you can get a few Tony Moly products in the US, but much more in Korea. Mostly I would get them for the fun/cute packaging. I regret I did pick up the 5 pack of these in the airport shop:

Another think I noticed was that lipstain is big - many girls wear tinted lips, but not a lipstick look. I would look into some products?

Ah, cosmetics, what a lovely topic!!!!! Oh, and the $$$$$ I spend on them. Tsk, tsk.

My perfume sob-story is that there was a local store which used locally produced oils in their all natural scents. I used to always buy Rain & Jade Iris. Went and bought a bottle of each and two weeks later went back to buy more and the shop had closed down after 17 years in business! They gave absolutely no notice of closure, not at the store, not on line, so I've been in a funk about that for awhile. I am dispensing what little I have left in my two bottles of my favorite scents with great care.

I feel for you as well. Since I was a teen Chanel's Cristalle has been a favourite, and I particularly loved the bath and shower gel, which has now disappeared completely. I've lost count of the number of times I've asked yet another store or airport kiosk to have a look in their cupboards and drawers in case there's one precious bottle left.

Why do companies never warn you, especially when a product has been around for decades is discontinued?? :wuzrobbed

It's happened to me, as well; with Clinique's "Currant Stain" lipstick.
If I'd known that it was going to disappear, I could have stocked up.

I see Cristalle on chanel.com and Nordstrom, both EDT and EDP.

But sadly not the bath and shower gel :(

I also have loved Chanel No 19 bath and shower gel for decades, also now disappeared, but I've found Darphin's seaweed shower gel has a similar scent so I use that now :)

I used to buy Cacherel Lulu in duty-free since they stopped selling it in the US a long time ago. Then my nose changed or something and I no longer liked it. But I've always lucked out in duty-free where they stock things discontinued in the US.

I dont know about you ladies, but I find caudalie beauty elixir a total hack and a waste of $$$.

I like Caudalie's foaming cleanser as well as their shower gel, but for the most part I haven't been impressed with the rest of the line. Plus I don't know how to pronounce it :p

I've had a few deluxe samples that weren't bad. I say koh-dah-LEE.

I tend to corner eye these "all natural " perfume claims. Especially if it's an iris scent, which is really pricey in its natural form. Then again, maybe using all naturals put them out of business.

Usually the carrier oil is "natural" and the scent is aroma chemicals. Nothing wrong with aroma chemicals , but the all natural claim in perfumery is usually deceptive or really expensive if it's the real deal.

I hear Blvgari just came out with a really great iris/lavender/violet scent, but don't wast to smell it for fear of buying something I don't need now.

Last year I was so gaga over Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille and this year I can't stand it. Luckily my cousin is willing to take my 2/3 full bottle of my hands. Right now I am still into my HG Lolita Lempicka and Mon Exclusif by Guerlain. They are quite similar, both cold weather fragrances. But I get compliments left and right for them.

Chapped lips? Lipstick goes on in ugly chunks over the dry skin on your lips? This is by far the most superior product to get your lips smooth, soft and lipstick ready: http://www.marykay.com/en-US/Satin-Lips-Set/180301.partId?v33=You+May+Also+Like

My SIL introduced me to it a few years ago and I never looked back. Da bomb. I am getting ready to go out for NYE and used this duo. All the dry patches are gone! :cheer2: Mary Kay!
