I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

I do. I see a difference in texture and visibility of very fine lines. It only works on those, not the deep ones like the naso-labial folds, the lines from your nostrils to your lips.

re Chanel scents - to me, #5 smells like Raid. But I still really like Cristalle (summery, non flowery scent) and am simply devastated that the shower gel is discontinued. I occasionally enjoy #19 as well.

Other oldies - I wouldn't wear the perfume but I'd love to get my hands on Emeraude bath products just for the nostalgia factor, and the other one I remember fondly is Jontue by Revlon. I am mad for the original Miss Dior Cherie, because I swear it smells just like Just Call Me Maxi, so when I wear it I feel ultra sophisticated but also the giddy anticipation of heading to a high school dance

I don't wear it anymore, but I did like the original Chloe scent. I remember reading a rapturous essay in Vogue and saving all my pennies to buy it as a teen, and eventually it was the scent I chose for my wedding day.

Emeraude back in the day was a really nice scent. It's said the reformulation killed it. It's the scent I bought my widowed aunts who lived together to wean them off Tabu. They used some Jean Nate, too. I remember liking that, too, especially the soap.

False alarm. Angel wearer not only gave just one week's notice, she turned around and begged for her job back, thereby leaving her new employer in the lurch and out of pocket for pre employment screening. Not only does she smell like Angel, her character is suspect, and we have to take her out to lunch to "celebrate". Thank god I forgot to wear deodorant today and smelled like garlic, a lot. it blocked out the Angel and smelled tolerable.

I was returning the lipsticks and stopped by the Nordies perfume counter to see what's new. Well. The new Le Jardin de Monsieur Li by Hermes is yet another haiku of a perfume, in the style of the Hermessense Vanille Galante. He works with different notes here but the minimalist, aquatic Oriental effect is there (not as in Oriental-perfume family but as in deceptively simple, terse in composition.)

It is not 'me' since I am restricted to oriental/gourmands, but it is, nonetheless another masterpiece. Definitely a Mother's Day gift contender.

Jean Nate! There's a blast from the past. I'm immediately back in the bathroom of a childhood friend's house - it was loaded with Jean Nate products, along with the vintage newspaper wallpaper that was fashionable at the time - remember that?

Hey ladies, I just wanted to mention a couple of budget friendly makeup finds that I have been using recently.

This is an excellent medium to full coverage foundation as good as or better than any of the high end brands that I have used. It is sold exclusively at Wal-mart and it costs under $7.

The limitation is that it only comes in 8 shades and runs a bit towards light. But if you are fair like me, the porcelain or the ivory will surely work. Porcelain is about a 1/2 shade lighter than what I usually wear but it matches my neck perfectly.

I have worn it with primer underneath and without. Both are good.

The bottle has a pump top which is great and I use about 1/2 a pump for my face if I don't have primer on and about a full pump if I do.

I will go back and purchase the ivory for spring/summer for when I am a touch darker.

Again, this is about $7 at Walmart. I bought it in the colour Punch (bubblegum pink).

I love this for spring.summer. It is a bit shimmery but not too much. Plus, I loves me a bit o' shimmer.

I've tried this in both the Waterproof and non Waterproof variety and both are great...although I prefer waterproof (shocked because I usually hate waterproof mascara.)

I find this mascara is better than the high-end brands such as Guerlain MaxiLash, Benefit They're Real, and Too Faced Better than Sex.

It usually sells for about $6-8 and you can usually get coupons for Maybelline as well...so even better.


If anyone else has tried any of these products, I would love to hear your thoughts.

My mom insists on only using Jean Nate, I don't even know where where the hell she even finds the stuff. For me, it's the quintessential old lady smell.

I love Honey by Marc Jacobs, so I decided to buy a gift set of Dot too see if I like that too. I took it out of the box and the ornate topper is bigger than the bottle!

Well Tarte's Lights Camera Lashes is a big flop. You know something's wrong when your 16 year old son demands what happened, why do I have black eyes. hehehe Back to my HG mascara, Landome's Hi Def.

The rocket lasted about12 hours without smears, flakes and smudges and the waterproof version didn't smear, flakes or smudge ever and still looked good 12, 14, 16 hours on.

White Shoulders was my favorite perfume in my 20's. I mostly used just the soap and powders for a soft scent. With all this talk about scents, maybe I should try to find something that won't trigger headaches again.

My new obsession is making my own body scrubs and face masks. Way cheaper than buying (I go through A LOT) and it's fun to play around with ingredients. Right now my fave is a whipped citrus scrub... I'm currently trying to perfect the recipe but I'm liking the progress I've made with it. This may be the start of an at-home/mail order business....

I ended up buying the Blackup lipstick, it's in violet and looks and feels great, and it's cheaper than most other brands in the store but better than the cheapest.

I'm back to using Paula's Choice products. I try to free myself from them from time to time due to the inconvenience of having to order online, but I always end up longing for them at some point. I haven't tried more expensive brands like Clinique and the likes, and it's true that Paula's products have seen cheaper days, but I get to order the samples I need and I can test as much as I want before buying the more expensive stuff, I can't say the same about other brands at local stores... Finally they have a moisturizer with spf that doesn't leave me looking like a ghost, oily or stings my eyes!

Meanwhile I am loving my Better Than Sex mascara. Big lashes, easy come, easy go. Much easier to remove than They're Real with comparable effect.

oooo, I'll try Better Than Sex then since I really like They're Real but hate how I have to scrub it off to a point I'm terrified of losing all lashes. I'll admit it now, I'm a mascara junkie.

The trick with Better Than Sex is to gently wipe excess product off that monster wand with a tissue before use. The wand is so huge that you really want the right amount of product, otherwise it will end up all over the place, at least with me.

I'm mostly concerned about CC creme/foundation. I know I have seen travel sized products (Laura Mercier comes to mind) at Sephora. Any advice?

Depending on how long you are going, get all your samples together and whatever is lacking in sample size, buy in travel size. For liquids, get small bottles from a drug store and pour.
WRT CC cream, I just traveled this weekend with 1oz Kate Somerville IllumiKate in my carry-on. That's full size, no problems.


I have recently discovered that Neutrogena waterproof eye make-up remover is just as good, if not better than Lancome's BiFacil. Boy, do I feel stupid.

Clinique gave me two samples of their BB cream the last time I bought a tube, and I use those on short trips because I can't deal with paying $25 to check a bag for a weekend trip. And it kills me to pack light. But I do. It's so difficult.

The Container Store carries a wide variety of 3 oz or smaller refillable tubes and tubs. If I don't have a sample, I just transfer what I need into a small one. While I typically use cream blush and some cream shadows, I'll take powders when traveling if I don't need to get extraordinarily tiffed.
