I hope this won't be thought of as a duplication of the "Fun YouTube" videos thread, 'cause this is an entirely different thing. Been following certain musical acts on YouTube that I thought I'd share.
Khatia Buniatishvili: Er, the gal in my avatar, very talented, beautiful and expressive. Hails from the Republic of Georgia, same homeland as the curvaceous Elene Gedevanishvili (something in the water? Sister Gvantsa, whom she often doubles with in performances, is also, shall we say, 'outstanding'), fluent in 5 languages and with 4 CDs to her name, lady is something to behold:

Yuja Wang: From China, lady has received some notoriety for her skimpy attire. Aside from that, it kinda makes you dizzy just watching her play!

Rachel Flowers: Young lady's musical talents are laudable enough, plays keyboards, guitar & flute, but her personal story is nothing short of amazing. Born 15 weeks premature, leaving her blind from 3 months onward. Learned piano at the age of 3, by the time she was 16 she could play anything by Keith Emerson, even getting a good mention by the Progrock Icon himself!

Any other musical talents you come across? Be fun to hear! And watch!

Samantha Fish: "I came for the legs, and stayed for the music!". Gal is quite talented as a singer/guitarist. And I never saw the oilcan/cigarbox guitars being used so effectively instead of just a novelty act!

Tatiana Nikolayeva, the Soviet-Russian pianist. I was wandering around YT in search of what music Mao Asada's reported Bach program might be using, and came across Nikolayeva playing Bach's Twelve Little Preludes. I have been listening to her play Bach ever since in a state of continued delight. She is considered a magisterial Shostakovich interpreter too but I have not followed her there yet. Sorry, I can't post YT links from my iPad but you can easily find many of her recordings there.

I loved Black Orpheus so I will give Dos Santos a listen, @gk_891.

This is Agostinho dos Santo here in this clip from Black Orpheus. The actor is Breno Mello but the voice singing is Agostinho's. It's a heavenly voice.

She's not yet a new discovery, but may very well be in the future. She's the daughter of one of my very close friends that I went to school with from first grade and we graduated together in 1976. Her name is Victoria Wells and has been singing and playing acoustic guitar since she was around 9 years old. She started singing at various festivals and celebrations in Shrevport when she was around 14. She's not quite 17 yet, but she's been considering auditioning for either The Voice or America's Got Talent. I certainly hope she does because I have a feeling she would do great. The following are songs she's performed by her favorite music artists.

Victoria Wells - Can't Blame A Girl For Trying

Victoria Wells - I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song

Victoria Wells - Romeo & Juliet

Victoria Wells - Firework

Victoria Wells 7 Will Fenton - We Could Have Had It All

Victoria Wells - La Bamba

Victoria Wells - Dear John

Victoria Well - All I Ever Needed

Thanks, @Kasey! The last time I talked to my friend, he said that she's thinking about auditioning for America's Got Talent next season. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she does!

So this channel has some groundbreaking animation effects to accompany some well-loved figure skating (and gay) music!

Word has it FUS's own Ivana Komova, purveyor of great taste and elitism, is a big fan, too! :glamor:

Sometimes, you find things on youtube from artists from days gone by that gives you a whole different perspective.

Take this unreleased recording from 50 years ago this day (August 28, 1967) from Bill Hailey. (Best known for his Comets and Rock Around the Clock).

https://youtu.be/mPeBIREseyo

If you're not familiar with his output before he became "famous", it might come as bit of a shock but you can find lots of other interesting examples of this man's talent.

Charconne Klaverenga (No, that's not a musical term, that's her name! ;)). Classical guitarist whose appearance even reminds me of a classic painting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXIVZ25vHJ4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D17Zw5un4Rs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9qfPgy_j8k

Lisa Batiashvili classical violinist from, again, the Republic of Georgia, even featured in a duet with pianist Khatia Buniatishvili!

Winner of Romania's Got Talent, 14 year old Lorelai Mosnogutu. Man, what a story of success over adversity. Young girl was born without arms, also without the upper thighs/femur bones. Abandoned by her birth mother and adopted at 2 months. Learned to write, draw, paint & play piano using her toes. If you think this is just a sob-story, hear her sing!

Last month, I went to a concert to watch (and listen, of course) Beethoven's "Emperor Concerto", played by Bertrand Chamayou with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, conducted by Mikko Franck. Although it was very good, what stood out for me was the piece they played before it : Louise Farrenc's Symphony n°3.

I shamefully admit that I had never heard Louise Farrenc's work before, so it was a discovery for me and I absolutely loved that symphony. It might not be an example of subtle composing as it often sounds exagerrated, but it worked on me, or at least it did live. I loved the opening, as well as the beginning of the 3rd movement (at 25') and most of the 4th movement (from 31'30 onwards).

As we don't talk much about female classical music composers, here is some more information on Louise Farrenc (who fought for equal pay, back in the 19th century !) and on her third Symphony.

Aside from the piece itself, watching the orchestra I must say I was pleasantly surprised by Mikko Franck (who seemed too cool, almost lazy, when he first got onstage that night but ended up conducting with great style). Also, some musicians cracked me up. Not sure if you can tell from the vid, but the leader of second violins overplayed it, the complete opposite of the lazy viola player on the last row, and there was also the maniac percussionist. Plus, a cute cellist on the back row ^^

Technically, I didn't "discover" Boy George on YouTube, since I do remember when Culture Club hit in the 1980's, but I wasn't into his music at that time. Fast forward to 2 years ago, and I played a hunch that made me into an ardent fan overnight, and that led to a most unexpected meeting last Thursday at Turning Stone casino.

YES!! Check out the avatar!!! That's the two of us! I even got to hug him. He's around 6'1 and SOLID! It felt like I was hugging a football linebacker.

These are some of my favorites:

Here's some footage from this year's US tour. Culture Club is touring with the B-52's, and Tom Bailey on select dates. They also are putting out a new album, most likely in October.
