Now, the wait to see whether somebody in the current administration congratulates Liu on social media, and if so, what her response is...
Why? Why are you bringing politics into this thread? There is a whole sub-forum dedicated to bitching about politics. I've let most of your passive aggressive snotty political asides go in this thread, but really, pull your head out of your tail for just once and leave politics out of it.

Beyond that, I would expect that Alysa, unlike you, is sensible enough to be gracious about any congratulations that may come her way from any politician whether she agrees with or voted for them.

Why would she even bother?
From what we've seen of adult Alyssa, she seems like she's intrinsically motivated. If she decides she wants to get her 3A back, she'll do it, regardless of what others are doing. She strikes me, for all her dude energy, as someone who loves a challenge and loves adrenaline, and I can easily see her working on it just to keep herself motivated, whether she needs it or not.

I can also see her saying, hey, that was fun, but you know what else is fun? Rock climbing. And we never see her again (in skating).

I love that Alysa's reaction to being World Champion is "WHAT THE HELL??"
Sh
Tonya Harding was the WTF girl.
It's fine, I said WTF for her ( and I am sure a lot of other FSUers😉)... and before there is any doubt WTF in the most positive and happy way possible. You go girl. I front of that wonderful crowd and home crowd as well.
What a lovely thing to see 🙂.

They won't congratulate her when they find out that her dad is an immigrant :(
I think Trump would have been much more likely to publicly congratulate Amber, assuming he only saw a photo of her and did not look up any additional information.
And then when he was called out on it, he'd say he'd never heard of her and did you know that he saved the skating rink in Central Park
And left China because of Tinanmen Square
Knock it off. All of you! You are all demonstrating how very little you understand about Trump or his foreign policy. Not that any of it belongs in this thread.

I have no idea whether or not he'll congratulate her publicly, but what I will say is that he likes winners & it is Women's History Month & there was a celebration earlier this week at the White House in honor of it, and given this is the USA's first World Title in 19 years, it would not surprise me if he did congratulate her.

Maybe! I just assume like most skaters though an extreme conservatism that would rule out any attempt at technical advancement during an Olympic season.

That would be enough to spoil my appetite.
Tara's first comment was very businesses like, but she started to get more and more excited. And all she did was just call what the jumps were. For once they didn't talk over everything, just showing the audience, and Alysa's Father. And one thing we didn't see on the World feed, Kaori came running over when Alysa got to the K&C to hug her.

Yes, she is on Alysa time not our time and I love that. If she walked away tomorrow she has already given us so much magic.

This might be the funniest post in this entire thread, and I’m not even going to say why

I didn't have a huge opinion on Alysa back when she was 13, but I love the adult Alysa and will back her all the way. Love the outlook and the mindset. She's special. Insane win, and she had the two performances of the night in both the SP and LP. So proud of Kaori as well. If Alysa didn't skate out of her mind, I would have been ecstatic for her 4peat, and she also had an amazing skate. Love this 1-2.

That. Was. Insane. Kaori created such a moment, and Alysa somehow was able to top it. Every time someone on here posts about being in DC in 2003 to see Kwan and Shen/Zhao, I get a little bit jealous. I would like to think tonight was a comparable experience, and tomorrow has the potential to be such as good.

Also, I know the ISU dignitaries like to present all the medals, but there were at least five retired world champions in the arena tonight. One or more of them totally should have done it.

I was bummed when Alysa barely lost at Nationals with a botched spin and doubled a salchow which cost her a medal at 4CC but boy did she come through when it counted. She was getting stronger in the 2nd half of the season with her stamina and it all came together at the right time. She now has 2 world medals but no GP medals. That might be some kind of record but of course she's only had two seasons on the Senior GP but i think it takes a full season after two years off to get back to where you were and i can't see a fully trained Alysa not medaling next season.

If you are in the arena: How are your eardrums?
Wadja say?

I can’t remember seeing so many great skates in a row. (Apologies to Nina P for what I posted yesterday, that was a mesmerising program.)

Kaori and Alysa are my two favourites, I could have lived with it other way around but oh my god. I’m exhausted as if I skated myself. Sorry for nutsy posting, T is finally here.

Has anyone ever won worlds in a gold dress before? I think most would be too superstitious to attempt it!
Not that I can think of at the moment. However, I don't think we'll ever forget Michelle Kwan's Exhibition at 2003 Worlds.

I'm so glad you got to be there for that. I was thinking of you when Kaori finished her program! :)
