On my third line today I tried the word ‘DERTH’, which I knew I was misspelling but it was accepted. I can’t seem to find it in any online dictionaries, only ‘DEARTH’ as expected. What’s up?
The thing I'm enjoying about Wordle these days is that no matter what kind of word I start with, I somehow still get there in 3-5 guesses, mostly 4.
At this point I have no strategy other than starting with a word that has five different letters, and somehow I get there anyway
@PatChan4O One thing I like about the NYTimes Spelling Bee is that when you check the answers (I'm talking about the printed puzzle in the Sunday magazine), it says something to the effect of "here's our list, and if you think you have other legitimate answers, give yourself a point."
Speaks to the idea that language does evolve, and what might have once been unacceptable is now widely used enough that they'll take it. Either that or they are using an archaic dictionary!
