Who are the skaters/teams you will keep your eye on in the next quad?

OK, now that some of my favs will be retiring who is capturing your interests??

For me its easy.. Kaori Sakamoto and Loena Hendrickx. Holy Moly.

Both are GORG!!!!!

And I can't take my eyes off of either...... STUNNING... Their appearance on ice and the quality of their skating. Please tell me that Loena finds funding to continue? Both of them are absolutely STUNNING!

I have me eyes on BOTH Italians teams in Pairs.

And of course Nathan and Vincent.

Also I am curious as to how Marin will develop....

Pairs:

I think Sequin & Bilodeau and Moore Towers & Marinaro both have huge potential, S&B imparticular. If they can just stay healthy I think they can become medal contenders in the new quad for sure.

It isnt really a new team but I think if Sui & Han can stay healthy, which they didnt do most of this quad yet still achieved a ton, they could become nearly unbeatable.

If Tarasova & Morozov get better programs though could be the team that dominates instead, particularly with a stronger fed. backing them than the Chinese.

I think Alexandrovskaya & Haley have potential to rise upwards in the ranks and possibly even become a regular top 10 or even top 5/top 6 team if the politics of the sport allows it.

I hope both Italian teams continue, I know they arent young but I think they are both still improving and have more to give, especialy Della Monica & Guarise whose improvement this and the last 2 years has been stagerring.

And I hope Stolbova & Klimov continue. IMO they still have potential to win a World title before calling it a day.

Men:

Nathan and Vincent from the U.S big time.

Hanyu I think will continue another 2 seasons and shoot for his goal of a quad triple axel and if he stays healthy push the difficulty of his own jumps even more, while Nathan especialy cant push much or any further than he already has, can only work on improving his PCS further now really.

I think Nguyen now that he seems to have gotten things back together could rise and become an international contender of sorts.

Uno obviously will be a bigtime player, but I think he needs to improve his jump technique some which is suspect and he only gets by as well as he does through sheer determination. Particularly in comparision to the young U.S boys who have faultless technique.

Boyang is a hard worker and talented jumper and will remain a contender, but I am not sure if he can ever push higher than bronze, as he lacks the natural ability in certain areas others have, and again has a weaker federation than the Jap. or U.S or Russian backing him.

Kolyada will either start putting it together soon or the Russian fed. will be fed up and start dumping him. Aliev has a lot of potential.

Dance:

Papadakis & Cizeron should dominate. Would not be surprised if they won the next Olympics and next 5 worlds.

Hubbell & Donohue will either start putting it together in big events and winning world medals, and possibly emerge as P&C's closest rival, or the USFSA will grow fed up waiting for them to deliver and start dumping them slowly like they have already started to do with C&B.

I am not sure if the Shibutanis plan on continuing or not, but if they do they should be near the medals another couple years anyway.

Soucisse & Firus I think are the Canadian team on the rise and will be Canadian #1 easily by 2022 unless W&P stay until then (or quite possibly even if they do stay).

I see Stepanova & Bukin easily taking over as Russian #1 now, and could see them emerging to be big medal contenders, particularly if Stepanova can improve her basics and skating somehow.

I see Hurtado & Khaliavin as having a lot of potential, and could possibly emerge as contenders. Their biggest drawback is a weak fed. I think they have more potential than they did with either of their former partners, even if I am happy Kiraal is married to his beautiful ex skating partner whose career ended sadly through injury.

Ladies:

Sakamoto has huge potential and a huge future IMO. I see her probably being Japanese #1 going forward although Higuchi could challenge her for that. I dont see Miyahara staying on top much/any longer even if she continues which I am unsure of.

Russia has an army coming as usual so it could be anyone. I see Medvedeva staying for the long haul and being a huge contender another 4 years atleast though, whether she wins the OGM or not. While Zagitova I think might well just call it a day if she wins, I think Medvedeva plans on going awhile regardless.

If Chen can sort out her jump issues she is the American with the most potential IMO. I could see her on the world podium in the future for sure.

I see Osmond and Daleman both in for the long haul and another 4 years, and see more medals for both, and either has the potential to win a world title at some point.

Choi has real potential, she isnt the next Yu Na Kim, but she could be a world medalist at some point.

Of the up-and-comers: Soucisse/Firus, Parsons/Parsons, Starr Andrews, Camden Pulkninen, possibly Emmy Ma, Anastasia Tarakanova, Sofia Samodurova. I guess we can count Polina Tsurskaya as an up-and-comer too, since she's still relatively new to seniors. That's all I can think of for now.

Pairs
  • Seguin/Bilodeau - I hope they stay healthy because for me they have that it factor. I really notice the ice dance influence from the work they do with Marie-France.
  • Walsh/Michaud - I was quite impressed with them at Nationals. I didn't worry about any of their elements. And I'd think they'll stay together, since they have a great shot at a GP event, 4CC and even Worlds. And I've met them and they were nice.
  • Duskova/Bidar - I was very impressed with how well they did considering her injury and that they hadn't competed since Nebelhorn. And there's definitely work to be done, but they had some performance quality.
I'm cheering for A/W too, but I don't really enjoy watching them yet.

Men
  • Dmitri Aliev - <3 Ginger Soldier <3 I love watching him. My favourite Russian guy.
  • Matteo Rizzo - He did so well at the Olympics.
  • Nicolas Nadeau - Elvis <3 :smokin:
  • Joseph Phan - Looking forward to seeing how he does at JW. I think he might go senior next season. Promising young guy for Canada.
  • Conrad Orzel - Lots of work to do, but I like him. Hope he does well at JW.
  • Stephen Gogolev - SO much potential. Stay healthy please. And I've seen him live - quite impressive.
  • Alexei Krasnozhon - I love him. He's such a good competitor and I love his attitude in interviews and with his competitors.
Dance
  • Lajoie/Lagha - My absolute favourite junior team. I adore their FD this year. And I think they'll probably go senior next year, especially if W/P retire. But even if they don't, they still have a good chance for a GP. If they skate like they did at Nationals, they'll have a great shot at a medal at JW.
  • Soucisse/Firus - I love them, and they're improving so much. Impressive.
  • Gilles/Poirier - I wouldn't be surprised if one of the above two teams has passed them buy 2022, but I do find them so enjoyable to watch. The Bond was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to their SD next season, since their tango last year was great.
  • The Parsons - I hope they have a better FD next season. I like them.
  • Hubbell/Donohue - My second favourite team behind Tessa and Scott. I hope they can medal at Worlds.
  • Papadakis/Cizeron - What they do, they do beautifully, but I'm really looking forward to seeing them try something different and continue to develop.
Ladies
  • Alexandra Trusova - Out of all the Russian juniors, she's my favourite. Real star quality.
  • Anna Shcherbakova - Really musical. Hopefully she can stay healthy.
  • Anastasia Gubanova - I hope she continues to get opportunities. SHe's lovely.
  • Sofia Samodurova - She's really fun. I love how she sings along to her music.
  • Aurora Cotop - Really enjoyed her FS at Canadians, even though there's lots of work to do.
  • You Young - My favourite of the Korean junior girls.
Of the seniors, I'm looking forward to seeing Marin Honda develop, and I'll also be cheering for Gabby, Kaetlyn and Wakaba. I also hope Evgenia sticks around and experiments with different styles.

For ladies, there has not been much mention here of Rika Kihira, who can do such effortless triple axels. I believe she is the one to beat in Japan, if she can get her consistency under control. In Korea, Eunsoo Lim and Young You both have more potential than Choi. I look forward to see how Konstantinova, Tsurskaya, and Gubanova hold up as seniors next season.

Crossing fingers for:

Joseph Phan
Makar Ignatov
Dinh Tran
Basar Oktar
Matyas Belohradsky
Donovan Carrillo

Alena Kostornaia
Anastasiia Gubanova
Eunsoo Lim
Young You
Selma Ihr
Sofia Sula
Alysa Liu

Is Pogorilaya done now?

I'm hoping Stepanova/Bukin and Popova/Mozgov .Also hoping P/C try out new styles in FDs.
Also like the young Canadians S/F.

Men :

Nathan Chen - if he continues
Shoma Uno
Vincent Zhou - He seems to be the creative one, I hope he'll find a way to put more of himself into his programs
Dmitri Aliev - his skating :cheer2: the best Russian male by a mile

Ladies :

Alena Kostornaia - The best Russian Lady I've seen since... Idk  Please keep your jumps !
Marin Honda - I hope she can focus a lot more on skating though
Wakaba Higuchi - she has so much personnality
Mai Mihara
Kaori Sakamoto - her jumps are insane

Pairs :

Seguin/Bilodeau - Up your tech content but stay healthy please !
Sui/Han - They need to take a LONG break to properly heal though.
Tarasova/Morozov - They could win all the Worlds and Europeans if they get proper programs.
Ryom/Kim - They have a lot of personnality and their work with Bruno Marcotte paid off so much !

Ice Dance :

Hurtado/Khaliavin - They are GOOD. He already was so strong but she just got insanely better. Hope they develop their connection and get nice programs, because this is so promising for Spain.
Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen : We should start campaigning for 2022 already so they could participate, because it's going to be tough otherwise. Olympic calibre already, what a shame. Best programs this season.
Muramoto/Reed : could they possibly bring Ice Dance to light in Japan, land of figure skating ? I hope so.
Hubbell/Donohue : Already in line for the World podium, many times. They need to keep their *** together and they're there.
Shibutanis : I think they'll continue, right ? I want them to develop their creative process even more.
Stepanova/Bukin : I wonder how it will go for them because of the Olympics. They have the potential of bein World medallists but how will it affect them...
Loboda/Drozd : I kind of hope they get packaging this time. He has such a presence though.
Soucisse/Firus : Already very good after not so much time together. CAN champs very soon if you ask me.
Hawayek/Baker : either push it to the next level, or skate for Great Britain if US &,2,3 stay.
Papadakis/Cizeron : Can't wait to see where their skating will take them.
(I could have said I actually wait for the whole Ice Dance field at this point )
A couple of wishes :

-Someone tells Japanese skaters to stop skating to the same music. Too much skating classics, too many Turandots...
-Someone else saves us from the Eteri mimicking, because her skaters are way too talented for that. Alena Kostornaia don't fall into that trap girl, I'm watching you (Because you're the best of them all).
-I cannot wait for the Post-Olympic surprises too :biggrinbo Someone always shows up...

It's interesting that in pairs, the last two Olympic champion teams didn't even exist at this point of the quad - both formed out of post Olympic splits and then rapidly rose over the quad. I'm referring to Volosozhar/Trankov and Savchenko/Massot. Wonder if another team is about to form somewhere?

Interesting question! My feeling is that those 2 teams were probably anomalies, rather than the start of a trend. But we'll see.

When I think about skaters who aren't close to the top now, but whom I see as perhaps having the talent to rise over the next quad or two ... In dance, my eye is on Hurtado/Khaliavin and also McNamara/Carpenter. I'm interested to see where Pogrebinsky/Benoit go, too.

In pairs, I think promising pairs for the long term are Ryom/Kim, Duskova/Bidar, and Alexandrovskaya/Windsor. I am very intrigued by Boikova/Kozlovskii as well. B/K have perhaps the most raw talent and charisma of this group, but they also have the least size difference between them. I could see them either becoming great or flaming out. There is also huge talent in the Russian junior pairs ranks, but tough to see exactly which pairs will come out of that, as some are not through their growth spurts; plus, we've seen a lot of partner splits in Russian junior pairs the last few years.

I can't really predict anything in ladies or men at all!

I see big big big things in the future for Courtney Hicks, Larkyn Austman, and of course Anastasia Galustyan!

In the other events I think there will be many surprises but I hope the U.S. pairs will continue their uprise toward the top!

Duskova/Bidar, Alexandrovskaya/Windsor, Carreira/Ponomarenko, Lorenz/Poliozakis, Alysa Liu, Sofia Samodurova, Nathan Chen, Vincent Zhou, and Jin Boyang.

In ice dance, I think the teams to keep an eye on over the next quad are Hurtado/Khaliavin, Soucisse/Firus, McNamara/Carpenter, and Carreira/Ponomarenko. Both H/K and S/F have had significant international breakthroughs just in 2018, and both teams are in only their second seasons together. M/C and C/P are, in my opinion, the young American teams with the most potential to make a dent internationally. I don't think the current U.S. paradigm is stable, and I foresee (or at least would like to foresee!) some shuffling in the ranks by the time 2022 rolls around.

Regarding Anna I dont know if she believes she is done but I am pretty sure is done for the Russian fed. Which is a shame as IMO she is the most talented overall Russian lady, even over Medvedeva (I am not saying best, most talented is different than best). Big easy powerful jumps, pretty strong spins, a beautiful look on the ice, strong basic skating, strong even if unusual lines. She just never developed the consistency or confidence to be #1. It is a shame, she seemed to be getting a lot more consistent after her medal in the 2016 worlds, and was very solid throughout the 2016-2017 season but it all came undone at worlds, and after that more new Russians emerged, and she is pretty much done.

I have yet to watch Carreira/Ponomarenko. Are they good? Is he as good as his parents?

They have massive potential. Their one of the current top junior dance teams and i can see them moving up into the senior ranks with ease nationally.

My biggest wish is for Yuzuru to land the 4A as he has set the goal. Then say bye to competitions and give me some peaceful life. It’s difficult stanning such a guy who has a love for dangers and adversities.
I will support Rika Kihira, and all the current junior girls. They’re awesome.

I'm not sure about Hicks, she's been around a long time but hasn't been able to get past her current level (occasional GP medals, decent finishes at Nationals).

If Gogolov can stay health and manage his growth, he should dominate. Other Canadians, Phan, Nuygen, Sadosky and Orzell. These kids are pushing each other

Men:
Stephen gogolev (Future of canadian men)
joseph phan
matteo rizzo
Dimtri aliev (Near future poduim potential
Women:
You yong
Alexa Matveev
Rika Kihara (them jumps tho)
the russian lady with the long last name i can't remember konsta-what? I like her.
ice dance:
Lajoie/lagha
C/P
H/B
Pairs
S/B

Lots, but the ones who come to mind immediately are:

Vasiljevs giving us Lambiel vibes :inavoid:

Aliev being the token expressive, talented male skater who wins over the fans but disappoints them at every big competition, this time with bonus Russian federation drama :drama:

Messing because he has great choreography, energy and spins and I want him to succeed.

Daleman attacking every programme :gallopin1

Hurtado/Khaliavin for fashion inspo :glamor:

Tarasova/Morozov making me mad every season because they could be the best pair in the world but will keep getting garbage programmes forever :wall:

Re Carreira/Ponomarenko, IMHO: yes. He has his father's beautiful lines and great partnering skills, combined with his mother's expressiveness and deep, sweeping edges. I admit I can't take my eyes off him when they skate.
