What rule changes would you like to see for the next quad? (2026-2029)

Why can so few pairs do the SBS spins well?

Before code of points side-by-side spins we’re aesthetically pleasing because they weren’t trying to cram five different positions and four change of foot positions, code of points really kind of ruined things.

Same for the ladies layback, gone are the classic layback position because now they’re trying to cram in for other different positions in the same amount of time

Glad to see so much action in this thread ;) - BTW, I copied this thread title from a 2018 one and just added the years of the next quad cycle.

How about edged move sequence chosen from spirals, Ina Bauers, and inside or outside spread eagles?
I'd rather just see skaters use the time they would have extra (say, without the leveled StSq in the free skate) to incorporate plenty of movements that match the music rather than forcing them all into a box of select from A, B, or C. I think we would end up getting bored of everyone figuring out the same 'best' pattern to do as has been the case with so many elements.

Of course, some skaters will continue to just plow through the music without any trace of transitions or choreography.

I would like to see the scoring system changed so that skaters could not receive a higher Total Elements Score than the highest possible Program Components Score in a segment.

I generally agree with the last post but wonder if the solution might be to lengthen the Free Skate, perhaps without increasing the number of elements allowed.

I would get rid of the "q" on jumps unless there is some reliable method that can determine whether a jump was 89, 90, or 91 degrees short of a full rotation.

Lastly, I wish there were some means of reviving serpentine step sequences. I don't know what the best way to assure this would be, but I can dream.

ban the single or double axle sequence in pairs. They’re always 5 miles apart and they’re never done properly.

Anoint Amber queen of women’s singles

Re-institute the Layback without a Biellman position and a spiral sequence as required elements in the woman’s short program

Bring back nations cup or Grand Prix Italy, and eliminate COC for a while

ANL must approve all music choices by anyone who enters an ISU competition

Requiring a layback spin or without a Biellmann: YES .
I'd vote for including a layback or side-leaning spin as a required element in both men and women's SP. And this spin or combo should not include a Biellmann or a Y position.

So few skaters do a great Biellmann. When they pull their skate high overhead, they often throw themselves off axis and the spin slows down and looks...dangerous.
