HOMELIGHT AND U.S. FIGURE SKATING TEAM UP TO BRING FANS REAL-TIME SCORING DURING NBC BROADCASTS
(7/25/19) — U.S. Figure Skating and HomeLight, a San Francisco based technology company that pairs home buyers and sellers with agents and iBuyers, have extended their partnership, the two parties announced Thursday.

The three-year extension of their partnership will feature “Scoring Insights” which will help fans better understand the judging and scoring process. During NBC broadcasts, HomeLight will power the live scoring bug in the upper right-hand corner of telecasts. As a skater moves through the program, the graphic reflects the up-to-the-minute technical score and tracks it against the events leader at the top.

Additionally, the partnership includes an educational feature aimed at helping fans better understand the sport. HomeLight will co-produce an educational series that features expert commentary about how the programs are ranked using both technical and artistic scores.

“We are extremely excited to have HomeLight as part of our family of partners for the next three seasons,” said U.S. Figure Skating Chief Marketing Officer Ramsey Baker. “HomeLight understands the importance of connecting figure skating fans with information that will make their viewing experience more enjoyable, just like they understand how to connect consumers with the best real estate partners and solutions when buying or selling a home.”

“We are proud to be an official sponsor of U.S. Figure Skating. It was amazing to watch the Team climb to new heights last year, and we look forward to being a part of their journey on the road to the Olympics. Along the way, we’re thrilled to expand the ‘HomeLight Scoring Insights’ feature to bring more appreciation to what goes into the judges’ scores. At HomeLight, we use data to help homebuyers and sellers navigate the important decisions by identifying and ranking the best ways to buy or sell their home; and we’re excited to bring similar insights to the US. Figure Skating Championship.” said John Van Slyke, HomeLight’s Vice President of Marketing.

In addition to the on-air features and data driven on-screen scoring graphics, the partnership will also include a robust television media package throughout the remainder of the 2018-19 figure skating season and opportunities for HomeLight and top agents in the country to connect with U.S. Figure Skating members.

From the description, it sounds as if the bug is getting a design refresh of some sort for the season. Will be interesting to see what else develops.

(Personally, it would nice to bring back the live scoring web page they ran during Nationals as a regular occurrence, or those height/speed graphics seen during the replays on Japanese broadcasts.)
