Tracking Russian figure skating's support for the war

They do. And let's be honest: Russia received way more grief for their actions in Chechnya than the US for their collective adventures in the Middle East, despite a massive difference in the body count.
You've insinuated multiple times in this thread that others don't care about Muslims... and then you proceed to whine about Russia receiving "grief" for massacring Muslim civilians...

Russia's history of targeting Muslim civilians, even its recent hospital bombing campaign in Syria, are not that well-known. In fact, Russia is successfully marketing itself as anti-imperialist to members of the African Union. Even disemboweling civilian women in the Central African Republic hasn't harmed Russia's marketing. So, tell us again how Russia receives so much "grief" for its actions...

How many people know that Russia's massacres of Muslim civilians in Chechnya were a continuation of a long history of massacring Muslims in the Caucasus:
Be honest, the vast majority of people have never heard of the Circassians. Russia has been very successful at covering up its genocidal colonialism.

I don't know that it's helpful for your cause to bring up things that took place in the 1700s and 1800s as the world was certainly not running short on genocidal movements at that point of time. Clearly, it wasn't the cuddliest era in history. In both hemispheres.

Agree.

I think this is a by-product of the past, not the present. Isn't it because the US and USSR allied together to take out Nazi Germany? Which led to the USSR being able to pretend it's a saviour effectively. This isn't me blaming the West because I'd say this alliance was necessary, but I do think it's an after-effect.

I think the West can do more to make Russia's past and present well-known, as it does for China.

Russia is Not a democracy to have freedom of speech. It is a dictatorship. Openly disagreeing with powerful people can put their lives in danger. There have been examples already. Nadia of Pussy Riot, Navalny, etc. Have paid dearly for speaking up.

You cannot assume that Russia is just like the USA or Western Europe. No, the skaters in Russia do Not have a choice. There is a real possibility that some of them are being forced to do or say things they don't believe in.

I am sure there are skaters that actually support what Putin is doing, but you cannot lump all Russian skaters in the 'supporting the war' category, based on superficial information. We cannot read their minds.
They are alive so they do have a choice. Who don't have a choice are hundreds of thousands of dead Ukrainians. Including many many young athletes. They do not have a choice to do anything any more.

I cannot believe after a year of exterminating us poor russians are still portrayed as victims here. Insanity.
