Tony Timberlake: 'He was a gay guy who won': why I wrote a play about ice-skating genius John Curry

I was just reading about this play, performed at the moment in Edinburgh, about John Curry:
https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2...y-timberlake-assembly-hall-edinburgh-festival

The article is about the journey of Tony Timberlake when he started to write a play about John Curry, his idol, the gay guy, he admired and respected, about the guy who gave him the courage to be himself.

Timberlake was wondering why John Curry is almost forgotten. The moment I read this, I thought: Well, I barely remember him. But I remember, that I loved his performance, his elegance.

So I post this to remind us of a really great guy, who died way to early.

I'm not quite sure, if this is the right subforum to post this. Feel free to merge or rearrange or delete this thread (in case this is discussed elsewhere)

I saw the play over the weekend and found it deeply moving. The play is almost more about Tony than about John Curry, but I really enjoyed the fan perspective, plus it is a very personal story about coming to terms with his sexuality. And acted wonderfully. Very touching.

I read, or at least attempted, to get through ALONE a few years back. John sounded so sad and at times, self-loathing. In spite of the support he appeared to have from his adopted American families, and several boyfriends, etc.

It really was a different era.

Youtube is such a nice resource to watch his eligible and professional skating, however.

This would make a good bio pic. There are a number of films about Tonya Harding already. There is an upcoming Sonja Henie film too.
