This Year's Renovation Trials & Tribulations

I'm at the tail end of a full interior house painting as well as fixing all of the little things that have broken over the past 16 years(it was time)putting a new mirror and light fixture in my guest bathroom. Gave the contract to a duo that had very good reviews out on one of the websites that feature recommended contractors. The project price was comparable to another contractor and they indicated that I would have their help moving my furniture(the other would not).

One half of the duo was very good at what he does, and knew when to say he would need to bring in someone else. The other, much younger partner came and went as he pleased, spent less than 4 hours a day on the job, ruined one of my bathroom walls and then proceeded to disappear from the premises. Now the highly responsible one is fixing all of his partner's errors. And, the partnership is breaking up. The preceding customer has a loose leaf of complaints against the younger partner and will take him to small claims court. She also refuses to pay anyone but the older partner.

But the house looks great; so clean and bright. The reported shortage of materials and the inflated prices as very evident, but at least I did not do any remodeling in this crazy era.

After the Texas freeze where I had a water pipe burst and it got my master closet/bedroom wet, I've been wanting to redo all the baseboards throughout the house. The estimate was INSANE, like I could do it myself and save $50K. For baseboards??? Well, other things too, but I definitely felt the hit on the raised building costs. Looks like I'll just have to get used to warped baseboards in my bedroom...
