A - Allegedly because there were already too many Ukrainians on the team (Gutsu, Lysenko, and 1st alternate Stovbchataya)
B - Kalinina was not in the same physical shape as she had been in 1990 (and to a lesser extent 1991) and was no longer an obvious choice for the Olympic team
