Turkey - all empires fall as in setting them up, you also sow the seeds of their destruction at the same time. They are unsustainable. Even the Roman Empire lasted no more than 500 years. The American period of world dominance (okay, it never had an Empire, but it has been the only superpower for a while) is fast reaching its end. That means its period at the top will have lasted only around 100 years. Moreover, things run in cycles and areas of the world go through periods of revival and decline. Also, if a population is completely determined to kick out an unwanted presence, then inevitably they will as America found in Vietnam.

1. Current global population levels are completely unsustainable, and there will be a time of reckoning within the next 50 - 100 years once fossil fuels run out, should nothing viable replace them. With an energy crises like that, that's when things are likely to turn very nasty. Unless, there are revolutionary discoveries in the energy sector, I don't see how that can be avoided. Will humanity manage to resolve this problem peacefully, preserve civilization as we know it, and move onwards to bigger and better things - Yes or No?
