I'd be shocked ever to learn that those stand-up comedians widely thought to be among the greatest of all time--Bruce, Gregory, Pryor, Carlin, Hicks, Rock, etc.--weren't all the while seeking to offend at least some people, even before trying to get a laugh out of them. For that reason, I'll have to say, "For the most part, No". I was a kid during the last PC epoch. Whether the subsequent age of post-PC complacency was any better (or even freer) is debatable.
