If you were to say that rules are rules, then East Germany as Rhonda Faehn should not have remained on the competition podium while Kelly Garrison was performing on the uneven bars. However, if you were to apply common sense on the basis that no prejudice was caused, then the USA would have won the Bronze (a 0.5 deduction against a 0.3 deficit). Ultimately, rules have to be adhered to no matter how ridiculous they sometimes are. Hence, East Germany. Nevertheless, the USA were unlucky as they deserved the Bronze on merit.
