FYI - I'm 99.99% confident you can say "cunniliftus" on your own show. ;)

I actually listened to this latest episode twice. Thanks for linking to the document with the Ice Dance levels as I had wanted to review that before the big events.

Also thanks for mentioning the (in my opinion) misplaced nostalgia for the 6.0 system. People seem to have forgotten the weird results that would throw, and how some decent skaters were buried in the standing just because they came from the wrong place or otherwise weren't able to build the type of reputation that resulted in high scores.

Dec 7, 2025
Tony and Thomas are back with their first of two videos recapping the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan. 30 years of this event, and it's the last time contenders from both Europeans and Four Continents nations will face off against each other before the Olympic Games. This first video focuses on the pairs and mens competitions, with a brief look at ice dance. Tomorrow, we will deep-dive the dance event and also review the women's competition. Enjoy!

Grand Prix final part two has been done for days, but we were trying to get it to to YouTube without it, calling us out for actually analyzing elements on screen. We’re giving up, so Tony will have a Patreon video link soon. I’ll have the pod version up soon as well.

We don’t know how we’ll handle this in the future, but any videos that actually do on screen analysis may have to default to Patreon.

Ah, this explains why I couldn't find part 2 when I went looking for it today. Wanted something to listen to while on the exercise bike. If I'm doing something suitably mindless I'll listen at work tomorrow instead.

Honestly, listening to Thomas run through all the criteria for twizzles, it’s hard to imagine how any judge could tick through them all in real time in the few seconds that elapse. Maybe that’s part of the problem. The tech panel can look at replays but can the judges? If not, maybe they should be allowed to do so.

Just watched part two of the Grand Prix Final and just WOW. Am enormously grateful for all the work Tony and Thomas did to explain the GOE earned and deserved, comparing elements for the top dance teams. Very educational and enlightening. Huge thanks!

This is more a watch episode than a listen episode, because they're using videos of the skates at the Grand Prix Final - that's why YouTube blocked the video.

Yes the judges can too.

But the criteria is very repetitive so any trained judge who has to go through certification and working their way up should be pretty familiar. If they can find reason to put lower teams at a 0 or maybe +1 GOE, they should be able to know how they justify +5. But then again, we’ve always said a lot of it seems built in by reputation and skate order.
