It’s not super clear but if you pay attention you can hear it at the very end of this video of their 2011 world’s FD

We have about 12 more posts until the next thread (I'm sure whoever makes the new thread will provide links to the previous threads thanks to Sylvia for providing the links). How does "Paradise Found" sound? Or maybe ditch the Paradise motif and move on to something else.

I feel like Paradise Found is the perfect title for a new thread started in the post-Olympic celebratory spirit. Judging by the rate at which we go through threads for the Shibs, by the time a better title is warranted it’ll probably be time for a new thread anyway lol.

The Shibutanis are not only amazing ice dancers but such incredibly warm and humble people. It makes their wonderful experience of winning not 1 but 2 bronze medals, all the more satisfying as a skating fan. Plus all the adversity they had to overcome, winning that world bronze and having a lot of great succeses early, then sliding a bit, then being written off, then fighting back, and this year having all this buzz of the well liked, talented, and fast improving H&D possibly overtaking them but it never happened (well except Nationals, 1 event out of many). Such champions and stars both on and off the ice. It is great to see them enjoying their Olympic experience even more now with the pressure off, and the fun they are having and sharing with all on social media.

That video was just too precious. When Maia talked about how her mom wanted two kids because she was an only child, that tugged at my heartstrings a bit and this just tugged at them even more. "I love my baby sister." AWWWW

I've been back on forth on a sibling for Toddler P, LOL.

I like Paradise Reached -- I'm sure we'll go through the thread fast enough LOL. Especially if they're on DWTS. ;)

Wait are there actually rumors about the Shibs going to DWTS ? I would love that ! Or is it just speculation ?

It's just fan wishes and speculation for now. There haven't been any real rumors put out there. However, the fact that DWTS is doing an all-athlete edition of DWTS this Spring is telling.

Yes, just a wish. Apparently Mirai's trying to compete for that skating spot though, LOL. And others are convinced that Adam will end up on there.

It would be surprising that Adam isn't going at this point. Ashley maybe ? I'd rather see the Shibs though, it's like Meryl vs Charlie but even better, because they are family ! And they have a YouTube channel. A good one :D

Okay, tears came to my eyes that is just so adorable. Makes me wish I had a brother.
my mother swears up and down that when she looks at clips of them that was exactly how me and my brother were when he had his first sibling (me!). we did everything together so much people would ask if we were twins (we were tall so i could almost reach his height exactly by 3 or 4). he even gave me a nickname before he spoke my name, "sitter" (baby talk for sister!) but even now sometimes he calls me that. there were people who had children and they had siblings as well but they were sure to note on how close knit we two were. unfortunately i don't remember a single second of our beginning days but all the memories i have now involve me and our little brother who came 2 years after. looking at these two reminds me just how much i adore and treasure my brothers. i'd kill for them without a doubt. the sibling bond really is so amazing.

Maia and Alex have an episode on NBC's The Podium podcast:

They speak in the first 10 minutes of the podcast.

Also, Shibs talk about DWTS:

Where does that stereotype come from?

That's a pretty big topic. I'll write an answer this weekend when I have some rest and can devote some time to make it coherent and comprehensive.

Don't feel as though you have to answer my question if you don't actually want to!

I do know that one stereotype of Asians is that they're hard-working and disciplined. Does it maybe stem from that? Germans also have that stereotype and they also sometimes have the reputation for being un-emotional.

It’s hard for me to imagine Alex and Maia competing seriously against each other but the idea is definitely super interesting. I’m also curious about how they’d perform with different and unrelated dance partners, although I’d never want them to skate with other partners competitively.

If they do end up on the DWTS I’ll actually watch the season for the first time in my life haha.

Well, i just can to think how uncomfortable would be for them to dance with other people and you know, she/he is not your sibling, people will wait other thing. Sure, it would be interesting but if I was them, I would be like " this is so awkward ":slinkaway

Alex says. “It would be interesting and potentially awkward¨

You see?

That reminds me of the comment of Robin Szolkowy when Aljona first started competing with Bruno. He said, "It's like watching another guy drive my car." I loved his candor.

LOL omg. I wonder if Meryl or Charlie felt awkward seeing each other dance with other partners during DWTS.

Meryl and Charlie competing was the only time I watched DWTS and I love the moment when Meryl and Maks won where everyone put them over their shoulder and you saw Charlie among others holding Meryl up but Charlie was really making sure she was secure up there and Meryl looking at and depending on Charlie. That's definitely a result of lifelong partnership where you bet Charlie is the person Meryl trusts the most to carry her.

I didn’t follow the season but I watched clips of their performances after they were posted online. I remember Meryl and Maks having great chemistry and I enjoyed watching them together a lot. But I 100% agree that there’s something so special about the trust that comes with a lifelong partnership. As fun as watching them with other partners was, I still enjoy watching Meryl and Charlie together on the ice more.

Charlie talked about it a little in an interview I listened to with PJ Kwong. He said he was uncomfortable with the way the producers tried to create a rivalry between him & Meryl. Essentially, he didn't like being asked to root against her. That just wasn't going to happen. I've never watched the show so that's all the insight I can provide. The concept of watching non-dancers compete at dance has never interested me.

I used to enjoy So You Think You Can Dance, in which all the competitors are real dancers. I liked the early rendition of it in which the teams stayed together long enough to develop a relationship on the ice. I stopped watching when they started switching partners every week. I guess I always connect to teams & relationships rather than individuals. It's certainly true in ice dance.

I don't like DWTS -- or most other reality shows -- very much. Too much fake drama. But I watched for Meryl and Charlie, and I was proud of them for not giving in to that crap, and for working hard and doing well.

I found it fascinating that they said they were flat out underscored in the SD. I think this Olympics is the first time they've said such things on the record. I suppose now that they've come out of it with two OBM and a big platform, they now can be more outspoken. This is good. :)

Where does that stereotype come from?
Stupid stereotype, probably because culturally, they are disciplined, very polite and try their best not to bother the people around them. Just look at the asian skaters that we have. Of course Maia and Alex are American, but with these origins, it helps having a bit more in the background. Look how they behave : No drama, they are polite and often referred by their peers as "fun", "sweet" (especially for Maia). Their parents can be proud.

You should watch some numbers because I'm 99% sure some coaches and choreographers take idea from there :D I watched when Charlie and Meryl were on for the first time and got bordeline obessed with the show. Maks and Meryl were amazing. I know they created that whole "are they or aren't they" for the show that wasn't necessary, but I loved seeing Charlie, he was just so good.
I'd love to see the Shibs ! Come on, 2 Olympic medals, what do you want more !
