The Shibutanis Thread 6: Paradise Found

For Valentine's Day, a high school-aged admirer who is an aspiring music producer covered the Four Seasons' "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" for her:

He asked his friends to tag Maia which resulted in line over 200 posts of her being tagged, and she ended up replying with "Happy Valentine's Day - Thank you!". Maybe this is what SojuBoi needed when he made his original song dedicated to her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfwTw6669AA

Love Maia, and it's difficult to take your eyes off her, especially when she is skating (posture, costumes, passion, flawless technique, musicality). However, Alex is equally easy on the eyes and deserves his own tribute for me err, I mean us, to ogle. :D

Have they announced if they will be coming back yet? I love and miss them so much. At this point I think they are the only team that can rightfully challenge p/c. I thought it would be h/d but they haven't done it for me this season. I think maia and alex have the technical stability and execution to be at the top (that is if the judges score them fairly)

I'm starting to get that sense too but only if Maia and Alex work on reaching that next level to be competitive with P/C. As for any announcement, no major announcements. They just made comments about going for 2022.

Yes, and it seems that C/B and H/D have upped their games. But I believe in the Shibs. If they want to come back and be on the world or olympic podium, they know how to work to achieve that.

The Shibs are in Japan doing a show right now. I wonder if they’ll see any of the Worlds as they did for 4CC. It looks like Maia and Alex have been working hard for the show judging by some of their pics on IG. Maia says the Olympic vlog will be out this week.

I really enjoyed the VLOG. It gave me a real sense of what the Olympic experience must of been like. I hope other athletes can figue out how to do this. The network pieces are so predictable and boring.

Someone PM'd me asking if I could put my post about the Shibs' twizzles from the ice dance thread here, so it doesn't get lost so here you go.

My personal favorite Shibs' twizzles are:

https://youtu.be/28mF0RS6SsU?t=15

2014 Ondrej Nepela FD Crossing Pattern, Vertical Axis
Maia:
LFI 6 Rotations Clockwise, holding the blade or boot of the free foot
RBO 6 Rotations Counter-Clockwise, coupee in front or behind with free foot, straight arms clasped in front and extended away from the body
RFO 4 Rotations Clockwise, 3rd set with at least 3 rotations from a different entry edge as the first two sets of twizzles
LBO 2 Rotations Clockwise, arms above the head

Alex:
RFI 6 Rotations Counter-Clockwise, holding the blade or boot of the free foot
LBO 6 Rotations Clockwise, coupee in front or behind with free foot, straight arms clasped in front and extended away from the body
LFO 4 Rotations Counter-Clockwise, 3rd set with at least 3 rotations from a different entry edge as the first two sets of twizzles
RBO 2 Rotations Counter-Clockwise, arms above the head

If you do 2 sets, only 8 rotations are required for level 4 (4 rotations in each set). If you do 3 sets, only 11 rotations are required for level 4 (4 rotations in 1st & 2nd set, 3 rotations in 3rd set). Shibs do 4 sets of twizzles and 18 rotations in total here.

2015-2016 "Fix You" Twizzles that match the change in tempo for the FD perfectly

RFI 5 Rotations Counter-Clockwise, free leg held out at 45 degrees or more from vertical, significant continuous motion of the arms

2017-2018 Latin SD Twizzles
RFI 7 Rotations Counter-Clockwise with free leg held out at 45 degrees or more from vertical, 8th rotation used as exit from first set to match “ocho” in music
LBO 6 Rotations Clockwise, coupee in front or behind with free foot, straight arms clasped in front and extended away from the body
LFO 3 Rotations Counter-Clockwise, 3rd set with at least 3 rotations from a different entry edge as the first two sets of twizzles

You only have to maintain a group A or B level feature for 4 rotations for level 4. In the Shibs 2017-2018 SD, they maintain their free leg held out at 45 degrees or more from vertical feature for 7 rotations in the first set and do an 8th rotation as an exit to match the music going “uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho.”

Any word on their new programs? I know they skated to something earlier this year (or during the Winter) in Japan, but I'm assuming they have another program as well.

It looks like a combination of the Evolution FD dress and the Do You Remember exhibition dress. I love it.
