The Shibutanis Thread 6: Paradise Found

If you have access to the Kiss & Cry, go to the "Dance-Pairs Chicago" thread and follow the advice in posts #9 & #12. I think you will find yourselves watching a sibling team growing up with the Shibs as role models. (Check out the final position in the twizzle sequence;)). Also--like the Shibs--a sibling team with a great connection with each other on the ice and with the audience.

According to the Shibs' latest Insta post, 600+ people showed up for their panel at KCon. I was honestly surprised they were having a panel at KConLA since their only ties to KPop was Eric Nam and sending gifts to BTS, but I realized KCon is more than just KPop and them being Korean ambassadors, competing at the Olys in Korea, and doing videos for the Korean embassy made them qualify for a panel. Plus it was justified with all those people showing up.

So Alex and Maia are in a big photospread for the September issue of Vogue:

That’s pretty major. I’m like some aunt who is crazy proud and constantly surprised by their success. Maybe I need to stop being surprised and just accept it. There are no ice dance politicks in the real world.
Ohhh I can't wait to see this. I'm so happy for them.

I've subscribed to Vogue for decades. I've been very disappointed with the magazine in the last two years due to its focus on one-trick models (yeah, I'm looking at you dead-eyes Kendall Jenner and Hadid sisters) who couldn't hold a candle to past Vogue models such as Christy Turlington and Liya Kebede. But Vogue, you have redeemed yourself by including the Shibs in your September issue. Shibs forever!!!:respec:

Making it into the "September Issue" of VOGUE is definitely LEGIT!, a huge deal in the world of media/fashion/celebrity. The spread: "34 Stars Who Continue to Shine on a Global Stage"

It's well known that there's a very rigorous vetting process, even just for consideration in a major thematic spread. Those invited, get flown in, made up, dressed, etc., then pose for some of the most elite fashion photographers/portraitists in the world.

But even then, there is no guarantee of making it into the print issue. Especially the September issue.
It's Anna Wintour's final call who makes it and who doesn't.
Kudos for the Shibs for being "given the nod."

<insert bow down emoji> Just, wow.

And it's the Beyonce issue too! Which is double exciting, cause lots of people will likely see it. :) Will have to find a copy.

Mrs. P, you should have no problem handling the size and weight of the September issue. It probably weighs more than Baby P did as a newborn:)

Which probably wouldn't be hard to do since she only weighted 6 pounds, LOL.

And oh hey, new video from K-CON!

And apparently they're going to be in some Fine Brothers Entertainment videos! Exciting!

Is anyone here going to one of the Crazy Rich Asians showings hosted by Maia & Alex today in LA and tomorrow in Livonia, Michigan? https://mobile.twitter.com/ShibSibs/status/1029167064810803200

In one of the IG posts with the Shibs and others at their showing in Universal, with this film, To All the Boys I've Loved, and other Asian-American milestones happening, someone commented that the Shibs started Asian-American year back in February. I could get down with that.

Tory Burch and her team seemed to be proud to have dressed Maia for the occasion, posting from her own account. (Click the right arrow for a view of Maia's outfit)

A really lovely photo series, highlighting the event and the line @torysport.

So like the Shibs. Telling a story, intelligently and with thoughtful attention to detail.
Will miss them on the competitive circuit this season.

Enjoying keeping tabs on the Shibs at Fashion Week. Very busy being dressed by sponsors and various designers. Clips they share from their IG stories indicate some prized "front row" seats.

Add another front row/being dressed by/for list for the Shibs. On fire this week

Looks like Maia and Alex will actually walk in a show themselves, as part of the Laureus event at the Mercedes Benz dealership in NYC. Joining quite a collection of legendary athletes including Tony Hawk, Nadia Comenici, Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses, Missy Franklin, Kerry Walsh Jennings. Hope they post some clips to their IG stories.

Finally, Alex on the runway! He could also do a terrific job as the narrator--pass him the microphone. What a fun event idea to dress up the athletes. Not too many size 4 and under in that group--though Maia probably is that small! ;)

Man, the Shibs are looking FRESH. I see they're headed to Shanghai from New York (exchanged places!). I think they worked on new music. I think they're going to show us a new program. I hope it's televised.

The Shibs are really having a Glow Up before our very eyes. I wonder how many young American ice dance teams are following them on social media and thinking that that can be them one day enjoying the fruits of their labor.

The Shibs flew straight from Shanghai to attend the Netflix Emmy Party. Maia’s latest IG post confused people into thinking Netflix is producing a show about them .

All invitees at the Netflix party were able to take videos like this.

At Stars On Ice China show in Shanghai there was an audience vote for Fan's top 3 favorites. Even an award ceremony of sorts on the ice.
The winners were Plushenko, Pang and Tong and Maia and Alex!
So cool to see them so loved wherever they go. This time in China!

That's so nice especially since they weren't invited for the gala at 2015 Worlds in Shanghai.

Pics from the Emmys earlier this week.
Alex always looks sharp in a suit or tux, but I thought Maia looked gorgeous dressed by Prabul Garung.
The fashion magazines agree.

Cosmopolitan Magazine included Maia and Alex in their gallery of the Best Dressed List 2018 Emmy Awards Parties

What's impressive is that I think they came back from Shanghai that very day and were super jet lagged.
